Quote# 79222

Kosher is distinct from halal, in that Kosher has unecessary (for Christian gentiles) precautions taken in in preparation.

Halal, in contrast, is pagan, and sacrificed to a demon.

While Mathew makes clear that this would not make one “unclean” (in the Jewish sense), Acts and Corinthians makes clear such pagan-sacrificed meat should be avoided.

It’s black-letter, New Testament stuff.

I'm beginning to think that the white noise I hear once in a while is not do to tinnitus but rather it's the babbling of voices in the fundies' empty skulls.

BTW I read that ritual slaughter ,killing an animal by cutting its throat ,was introduced into Islam for "humanitarian" reasons in as much it made impossible the older and far more unpleasant method of live butchery or eating a living animal bit by bit.

Indeed so. In the ancient middle-east the technique was to cut off some muscle from a beast, sear the wound with a hot iron and do the same again and again, day after day, thereby keeping the animal alive and 'fresh' as long as possible.

Compared to that 'traditional' religious slaughter is humane. Not as humane as pre-stunning of course...

Halal and Kosher are pretty much the same thing, but while alcohol can be kosher it cannot be halal.

Oh Ruff, you better avoid the stuff approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
That's healthy food according to the atheistic religion of science.

@LionLedByDonkeys "BTW I read that ritual slaughter, killing an animal by cutting its throat ,was introduced into Islam for "humanitarian" reasons in as much it made impossible the older and far more unpleasant method of live butchery or eating a living animal bit by bit."

This is in Jewish law, as well, based on various passages in Deuteronomy interpreted as meaning one must have respect for animals and avoid causing them suffering. It's called "shechita". The main difference, as I understand, is that that Jews require the slaughter to be performed by an observant Jew, while Muslims allow it to be performed by any "people of the book", which would theoretically (but not likely) include observant Jews and Christians.

Its legality varies from country to country. In the US, I believe it's permitted because forbidding it has been held to be an unreasonable restriction of one's religion under the First Amendment "free exercise" clause.

@breakerslion, the problem wasn't with the code, but with the URL. You need to use the URL to the pic, not to the page.

On that photobucket page, choose the code that says "img code".

@Doctor Whom: Actually, Muslims don't worship the Trinity, and consider Jesus a fully human prophet, and do not consider the Holy Spirit to be god. Literally "There is no god but Allah and Muhammed is his prophet".

Regardless, Paganism correctly refers to either pre-Christian religions or the revive ancient religions, not to Islam.

Further Jesus' teachings as reflected in the bible clearly state that the consumption of a substance in of itself is not a problem and such things need not be avoided. There is no provision in the Bible which would preclude the eating of Halal or Kosher meat by a Christian unless you radically re-define the meaning of those terms.

Actually, some kosher Jews will eat halal meat because they're very similar in requirements.

Not eating pork because you're Jewish: totally awesome and OK.

Not eating pork because you're Muslim: evil Satan-worship.

How do you not see the blatant double-standard there and how ridiculous and spiteful it is?

The irony here is that, given this fellow's name and a few references he makes in his profile, I am next to certain that he is a Freemason.

This is particularly interesting to note because hardcore fundamentalist Christians tend to consider Freemasonry as being deeply pagan much in the same way he is accusing Muslims.

Furthermore, as a Freemason he certainly has a great number of Muslim brethren towards whose beliefs he has sworn dire oaths not to give direct offense (much of Freemasonry involves the recognition of the fact that how one approaches deity is not quite as important as the fact that one approaches deity).

Speaking as a Mason myself, I'm ashamed of this brother's comments.

Kosher, Halal. Who gives a shit? Killing something is wrong no matter what names you happen to mention when you're doing it. Go cram that religion up your ass.
