Y'know, I have to point out that the right to free speech only means the government can't step in and tell you to say/not say something. However wrong-headed their reasons, it's perfectly within the school's rights to tell their students they can't wear certain kinds of clothes. Granted, there's no good reason to make someone not wear a shirt that says "I'm a lesbian"... but there's also no good reason to wear such a shirt to school in the first place. Her friends all probably know anyway (she doesn't seem to be the closeted type), and nobody else really needs to know. It's not relevant to schoolwork either way, so why bring it up every single time someone sees you? Especially knowing that some people (wrongfully) get worked up over the issue?
Also, I'm assuming that by "take off that t-shirt" they mean "go change into something else". Given that a girl running around topless would be a lot more distracting than a controversial t-shirt.

Yelling "Fire" isn't illegal. If people just tell you to shut up, you've done nothing illegal. If people panic, stampede, and get hurt, then you're liable for their injuries.
So what harm, exactly, did wearing that specific shirt cause, pray tell?

So you want the Federal government to judge what speech is a "degrading, destructive, self-destructive mental disorder that manifests as a compulsion to engage in loathsome perversions" and forbid anything they don't like? Suppose the Supreme Court decides that your speech is a "degrading, destructive, self-destructive mental disorder that manifests as a compulsion to engage in loathsome perversions" and doesn't qualify as protected under the First Amendment. Would you be OK with that and accept their decision? I mean, that's pretty much what they do in China: declare any speech they don't like to be subversive or "counter-revolutionary".

So she was asked to go around topless through the whole school? I suppose they were thinking the boys would take it upon themselves to "cure" her of her lesbianism?

Making up phony disorders doesn't change the fact that you're a homophobe, dear.

Ironically, these same fuckwits complain that the left is "intolerant" of their opinions about homosexuality.

A lesbian student is asked to take off her T-Shirt because it says "Nobody knows I'm a lesbian"
What It Really Says:
A lesbian student is asked to take off her T-Shirt because a perv working at the school wants to see her boobs.

People, I think we can all assume that she was supposed to wear her PE shirt or a loaner PE shirt or something instead of walking around topless. There's enough real stupidity here without inventing more.

@ PhoenixUltima --
Unless the school bans t-shirts entirely (and they'd legally have to have a good reason for that), banning articles of clothing based on the sentiments written on those articles of clothing is shaky at best. The only restrictions allowable in a public school would be on statements supporting violence or creating a hostile and disruptive environment.

Yelling "fire" in a crowded theater causes danger to others. Engaging in what you call "loathsome perversions" causes danger to no one.
Other people are free to do what is right for them. As long as they don't hurt or endanger others it is none of your fucking business.

Frankly, the only good religion is stuff like NeoPaganism & New Age...
A world without Organized Religion, a free open society made up of NeoPagans, New Agers, Animists, Deists, Agnostics & Atheists.
That would be HEAVEN!
Celebrate Life! Reason! Equality! Sexuality! Unity! and so on....

She was probably asked to take it off and turn it inside out. That's commonly what a school will ask a student who doesn't have another shirt to do with a message shirt the school doesn't like.
It's still a shitty thing for the school to do, and this comment's comparison is WAY off, but she was probably NOT asked to take it off in public and/or go around in just her bra for the rest of the day, so a sexual harassment claim would be pretty flimsy.

If it's so degrading, why do I feel so great when I have sex with women? If it's destructive, why am I not in a psych ward losing my mind because of said lesbian sex? Get over the fact that not every woman out there would like to see your penis.
Also, "of course there is free speech...except for people that I don't like."

Because publicly proclaiming your sexuality equates to starting a panic how, exactly?
Some of us think that being a fundie is a perversion that at times veers very close to and even reaches the loathsome, but you are free to make your beliefs plain.

"She does have a right to free speech, and I don't think she should be an exception."

Oh lol. I have the same kind of T-shirt. Friend brought it from Thailand. It's all black but in front in quite big letters in white tells "Nobody knows i'm gay."
That catches your attention almost everywhere. I rarely use it though. Just in night clubs.

When people start saying to you take off a shirt in which you declare your opinions because they don't like them for the same reasons you spouse, don't cry "freedom of expression". She's not, after all, making you gay, isn't it?
