Quote# 79622

Most dads would rather be told they have terminal cancer than have their son tell them he is gay, particularly if it is your only son. Coming out of the closet is a selfish act. It turns your problem into your family’s problem and forces everyone around you to live a lie. I have seen this destroy families. If you are gay, stay in the closet.

Joe Mama, it's because they want grandchildren.

I would think that most parents would rather have a living gay kid than a dead one.

Most dads would rather be told they have terminal cancer than have their son tell them he is gay, particularly if it is your only son.
Hmm. In my experience, most Dads just want their children to be happy on their own terms. guess that's the difference between you guys and the Socialist Utopia of Canada.

Coming out of the closet is a selfish act.
Obviously far more selfish than forcing your child to live a life he has no desire to live just to make you feel better.

It turns your problem into your family’s problem and forces everyone around you to live a lie.
Who's asking them to lie? Who's asking them to say that I'm just an avowed bachelor, who "just hasn't found the right girl?" I told you the truth, if you don't want to be honest about that, that is YOUR choice, not mine.

I have seen this destroy families. If you are gay, stay in the closet.
Yes, it wouldn't be my family's bigotry that destroyed the family, it's all my fault for not just being what Mummy and Daddy wanted me to be.

Fuck you. Fuck your guilt trip. And fuck your emotional blackmail.

2/22/2011 7:24:57 AM

...forces everyone around you to live a lie. If you are gay, stay in the closet.

As opposed to you living a lie by pretending to be heterosexual. Yeah, that's sooooooo much better. [/sarcasm]

You don't give a shit about your family, only its superficial appearance .

Not coming out is, n many cases, an act of distrust and forces your family to live a lie so as not to hurt you. It is, above all, dishonest.

So there is no need to fear coming out, Wolfie, if that is what is bothering you.

Arsebackwardness from Free Republic, nothing new here.

My dad would have rather been told he had terminal cancer than have his son tell him he was a fundie. Why? Being the Yorkshireman he was, he had the Yorkshireman's pragmatic, practical attitude (emphasis added):

'If it doesn't pay the rent, or put food on the table, It has no place in my house!'

Words to live by. As I do to this day. If only puppyman23601 would. If you are the Christian you claim to be, little Freeper, stay in the closet - along with all your fundie ilk.

Matthew 6:6 orders you to.

[Most dads would rather be told they have terminal cancer than have their son tell them he is gay, particularly if it is your only son.]

Well, if their selfish enough to deserve forced sterilization maybe. If that's your thinking then maybe you should have never had children. I was unaware you were the representative of 'most dads'.

[Coming out of the closet is a selfish act.]

No, forcing your child to live unhappily so you can live confortably with your discriminatory opinions is a selfish act.

[It turns your problem into your family’s problem and forces everyone around you to live a lie.]

Huh. Living a lie, kinda like lying about your sexuality to please others. Surely since you frown upon this, you won't suggest that gay persons should actually hide their sexuality by locking themselves in a metaphorical closet, will you?

[I have seen this destroy families.]

And yet, all these cases involve families with your type of thinking.

[If you are gay, stay in the closet.]

Well your just the hypocritical one aren't you?

How about you keep your prejudices to yourself, do that wishing for cancer thing in private and leave the rest of society alone.

You're gay, aren't you?

Spewing hate on Free Republic is a selfish act. If you are a bigot, stay in the closet,

I can't say I expected anything less from a freeper, but, as a gay male, this particular comment pissed me off something fierce.

Wolfman, your hateful beliefs are the reason so many young gay kids commit suicide. I sincerely hope that you don't have children - even though, in all likelihood, you do - but if your hypothetical son or daughter came out to you and you were too self-righteously obstinate to accept your son or daughter as they are, and your child ends up either depressed or dead in a gutter somewhere, the blame rests entirely on your shoulders.

It is YOUR bigoted and self-righteous mindset that destroys families and leads kids to despair.

A father might rather die than have a gay son, but a dad wouldn't.

2/22/2011 9:51:32 AM

I don't know, guys, I'm getting a much different message from this guy. Poor thing. He probably just recently came out of the closet only to hear his bigoted asshole of a "father" say he'd rather have terminal cancer than hear that. So he is led to believe that his "problem" became his family's, and that his coming out destroyed whatever foundations his bigoted fundie "family" had. The last line is a warning, as he doesn't want other gays to end up in the same awful situation as he did.

All I can say to that is, I'm sorry for your evil father, but you're better off without him.

If I'm wrong and you ARE the father, um, how do I put this... oh yeah, FUCK YOU!

Well, if a dad 'would rather be told they have terminal cancer than have their son tell them he is gay' ... then he probably deserves it.

Wow. What a terrible father you would make. I'd be concerned if my con told me he was a serial killer, but gay? I'd be totally indifferent. Actually I'd be a bit sad because his life (thanks to WONDERFUL people like wolfman) be harder than a heterosexual's. I'd support him and be proud of him no matter what.

The reason a gay son (or daughter) coming out of the closet destroys families is not because of the gay child. It's because asshole parents who don't understand the concept of a) unconditional love and b) gay being okay.

If you have to choose between your invisible sky daddy and your child you should definitely (without hesitation) choose your child.

As a cancer patient and a father, I'm disgusted. Just sayin'.

Hate and bigotry can destroy families, I can totally believe that.

The blame is on the hateful bigot, of course.

I have two sons, ages 6 and 4. When either (or both) of them is old enough, and if either (or both) tells me he's gay, my only reaction would be to ensure that he/they is/are happy.

And ya know something? I'd react the same way if they said they were straight.

(There is a truth to that: neither straight nor gay is a key to happiness; it's more about whom you choose to be with, if anyone...)

2/22/2011 11:11:42 AM

Berny

You are full of shit. As a father, I would rather have my son or daughter tell me the truth and be happy with their lives.
The kind of father you describe is an asshole, and I've seen more than my fair share of them over the years wrecking the lives of friends and acquaintances.
Maybe you should get both terminal cancer and have your son tell you he's gay. Then you could report on which is tougher to endure. Until then, shut the fuck up.

2/22/2011 11:11:43 AM

If you are gay, stay in the closet.

Yeah, and if the boogieman is after you, shut your eyes real tight. Oh, wait, that only works when you're three.
