Quote# 79622

Most dads would rather be told they have terminal cancer than have their son tell them he is gay, particularly if it is your only son. Coming out of the closet is a selfish act. It turns your problem into your family’s problem and forces everyone around you to live a lie. I have seen this destroy families. If you are gay, stay in the closet.

For a "shykid" you sure can express yourself well. Kudos!

Fundies Make Me Sick

If coming out destroys a family, it isn't the fault of the child, it is the fault of the parents/siblings who can't accept that a member of their family is gay and decide to punish/exile that person most likely because of intolerance and hatred taught by Conservative Christianity/Islam/Judaism.

I notice that you never mentioned anything about lesbians, only gay males. You probably excluded them because you think girl-on-girl is hot and therefore is okay.

You, sir, are a flaming douchebag.

Really? I think I'd take t3h ghey over cancer any day. >_>

My mother had cancer when I was a girl, and it was scary as hell.

Charles Veidt

When I came out, my parents hugged me and said "Oh, thank god. I thought it was going to be something serious."

My parents are better than yours. :)

You deserve terminal cancer. You and everyone like you.

If I had a son who wanted to marry a shoe, I'd let him!/Jimmy McMillian

/)o\)a: American here. In three sentences, you a) mixed up "their" and "there", either pluralized "worlds" unnecessarily or failed to put an apostrophe in it, spelled "debt" "debet", and failed to put an apostrophe in "won't". You seem to have a bit of a beam in your eye, son.

jas43: So everyone else can spew baseless beliefs? :P

Evilution Teacher

Maybe you will be ready to come out in a couple of years.

2/23/2011 6:27:59 PM

Pretending everything is fine in HeteroWorld is living a lie. And even if your son is gay, he is still your son. What's the matter? You pissed off that your sperm created a homosexual? Boo fucking hoo.

2/23/2011 6:42:09 PM

Coming out of the closet is a selfish act

No. It's an act of courage. Look up the word courage. You'll learn something. I'm sure most dads would like to whip your ass about your asinine comment. You make me sick.

Knowing the truth equals living in a lie? Only in FundieWorld.

A sick child also put families in trouble, does it mean that we should keep sick children in the closet too?.

Katherine Lorraine

I came out to my father about a week ago. I got the "we're not thrilled" followed by a whole list of canards re: gay relationships, but they don't hate me and we have a normal relationship still - even though my parents are fundies.

Now, when I come out as genderqueer / transgender... that may be a bit more difficult for them to take, I'd imagine.

2/24/2011 5:16:57 AM

my father died of cancer it is a horrible disgusting disease but he had no sons
now my dad grew up in the 30s and 40s so he was not that accepting of "alternatives" because of his upbringing (but he did overcome his racist upbringing) however I believe even he would spit at you in disgust!! He might have taken longer to adjust than alot of people I know of but Im betting he would eventually come around and he would have certainly picked a gay son rather than cancer!!

2/24/2011 6:36:01 AM

Actually that's what my mother said... thanks, God. Love the fanclub.

2/24/2011 5:09:23 PM

"particularly if it is your only son."

Because the only reason men father children is to carry on the family name. Meaning daughters are useless to their fathers and gay men never have children.

Well. I have an interesting story here that I just told a friend last night, and that I may as well repeat here. I am adopted. Was, rather. By my grandparents. Both dead now, both born during the great depression.

They found out I was, supposedly, gay, at age 16, due to me not reformatting a computer before giving it away to my grandmother's first daughter. Who hated me.

She showed up at our house a few weeks later, accused me of being a faggot, raged at me endlessly for 15 minutes before my mother, her birth mother, snapped off at her, and started raging at her for DARING to call me things like that. At which point my father took my hand and walked me into the den, sat me down on the couch while the two of them kept yelling at each other.

He just asked me if I was doing anything dangerous online. I replied "No, sir." because I wasn't, they didn't raise me to be stupid, I was meeting new people, learning about myself, and having fun. He just nodded, waited till my mother had finished yelling at her daughter and the daughter stormed out of the house furiously, and told me to get the phone and order a pizza, he didn't really feel like cooking after all that.

I went into the living room where my mother was to do so, she told me to turn the TV back on, and said if she ever came back around there again saying things like that, she would throw her out herself. And then she just settled in to watch TV and have a cigarette to calm down and my dad came into the room to join her and watch TV. No cigarette, as he'd quit smoking cold turkey in high school and never looked back.

They knew I liked boys now, but they didn't care a bit. Sister hated me for it, and hated them for not caring, but that was no different from anything else.

So, yeah. A GOOD family won't give a damn if you're gay, bi, or straight, so long as you're happy and safe.

I seriously want to see the statistics this opinion is based on.

2/26/2011 5:16:28 AM

you make me puke

if you are a half-wolf, half-man, stay in the closet.

2/28/2011 2:29:04 PM

Jade Goggles

obviously you've never known someone with terminal cancer.

Telling the truth is living a lie! Black is white, up is down!

3/9/2011 11:50:52 PM

Thank God my younger brother is hetero. That way my parents will still have grandchildren.

3/25/2011 12:44:41 AM

So...It's better to lie and hide than tell the truth? I thought "Thou shalt not bear false witness" was, you know, a Commandment, not a suggestion.

Canadia- love your comment, mind if I use it while debating my fundie father sometime?
