Influential Evangelical: Mideast Uprisings Violate Biblical Command

But from a biblical perspective, MacArthur maintained that the protesters are in violation of the biblical command to "submit to the powers that be because they're ordained of God."

"I would have wished the American government, which has a history of Christianity, would have risen up and said 'this is wrong, this is forbidden for people to do this, this is intolerable," he said.

"I'm not saying Moammar Gadhafi is the best leader; I’m not saying that Mubarak is a great, benevolent and just leader, not when he’s got $70 billion in his own pockets at the expense of people," he clarified.

But, he stressed, believers are commanded to live orderly, peaceful lives, subjecting themselves to whatever the government would be.

Oh hypocrisy thy name is fundy.
I believe you owe your gracious queen a lot of money mister Macarthur, so get to paying those back taxes and then we'll talk.

Except Gaddafi himself came to power by overthrowing the previous Libyan government. So he's not the 'rightful' leader himself according to your logic. Mubarak held the Egyptian presidency, an office that has only existed since 1952, when the Egyptian monarchy was overthrown; again, that was illegitimate according to your logic, so Mubarak was also not the 'rightful' leader. In fact, taking your argument to its logical conclusion, the United States should not exist, because the colonists had no right to rebel against their 'God-appointed' British rulers.

Yes it has. Under the Senussi order, and under the original caliphate, and probably a few of times in between as well.

You are correct in saying that it is not one under Gadaffi. And although a revolution can go many ways, it's unlikely to become one now, either.

Presumably this comes from the mindset that says anyone in power could have only gotten there with the help of God, therefore God approves of anyone who attains a position of power. Or it's a part of his great plan.

A pretty reprehensible position really. It discourages people from criticising rulers at all.

Ohhh boy would the European Union get CROWDED if they had to bring back their wayward rebels...>:>

Christ, no! No! A thousand times no! We've got unchecked immigration from known hotbeds of religious extremism giving us enough problems as it is!

That would just make it worse! America can fucking keep 'em, and they can have ours too!

... Besides, isn't that what Guantanamo was for?

Then we're living in sin and should rejoin the British Empire.

And shame on Britain for seceding from Rome. Italy is obviously the successor state, so Britain should repent and become part of Italy.

"But from a biblical perspective, MacArthur maintained that the protesters are in violation of the biblical command to 'submit to the powers that be because they're ordained of God'".

Except that these powers were ordained by the U.S.A. to have friendly Arab countries in the Middle East.

I've been reading Hyperion by Dam Simmons lately. If you haven't read it you should do yourself a favor and check it out.

During the story one of the characters, Sol Wientraub, has a collapse of faith due to an internal conversation he has with God over the subject of the story of Abraham. During these conversations Sol comes to the conclusion that any system that favors blind, unthinking obedience over decent, moral behavior is evil.

Why am I bringing this up? Oh, no reason.

Does this include second amendment remedies when an election doesn't go your way?

@ Thrutch and Felis:

Come now, I'd gladly send you guys a shipment of all the vilest and stupidest fundies America has. After all, Puritanism and Calvinism both originated in Europe, so we Americans would simply be giving them back to their rightful owners. After all, if you're going to suggest America come back to the UK, well then, you've gotta accept all our stupid people. XD

First, they are muslims. Seconds, if what you say it's true, the first Christians were anti-Bible. Otherwise, why refusing giving cult to the Emperor or enlisting in the army?. What about people living in communist countries?

"But, he stressed, believers are commanded to live orderly, peaceful lives, subjecting themselves to whatever the government would be."

As ordered in that part of your sacred Scripture, specifically Romans 13: 1-5. Fine. Now care to stress the same to everyone like you in the US - Repubicans, Neocons, Teabaggers and the Religious Right as a whole?

Sarah Failin, Rush Limburger, Fred Phelps, and everyone in Ruptured Retards, I'm looking at you.

So go on. Meekly obey the policies of President Obama without complaint, listening to his every word as if 'twere Holy Writ (and as far as you - taking into account Romans 13: 1-5 - are concerned, it is), and worshipping him as if he were a man-god.

You certainly had no problem doing so with your previous God-Emperor of Fucking Up, George Dumbya Bush. To this day, you still worship Ronnie Raygun as if he were Lord God Almighty himself.

Keep picking those Biblical cherries as per usual, fundies. And obeying Scripture to the letter - but only when 'tis convenient for you, socio-politically.
