I'm willing to bet that if put in an actual situation where your life was threatened you would soil yourself and cry like a baby.
As for being afraid to die, I'm an atheist and I have no fear of death. I don't long for it, like you seem to be. I want to live a long happy life before I die, but I'm not afraid.
I'm sure there are others out there of many faiths (or none) who aren't afraid either. It isn't just a Christian thing.

Please note: He is speaking of "should". That means in reality, christians are afraid to die. Sure, because it is one of the strongest emotions, hard-coded in everybody by evolution (species without fear of death are removed from the gene-pool very fast...)
Speaking from personal experience, it's the strongly religious who are the most afraid of death. They don't "laugh with joy". My father, for example, is calling himself a devout catholic. Every time I talk with him I can smell that he is terribly afraid of death. This fear is destroying his life. He has no fun in life anymore. He is becoming more and more depressive.
May it be rather that Atheists are people who are strong personalities, who don't need an imaginary friend who promises them eternal life? And devout religious people are those who are desperately clinging on every little straw which promises them to get out of this fear?
Regarding death, I hope that I will be as strong as the ancient philosophers, who teached that "One should accept the inevitable calm and in dignity. No one is spared, there is nothing anybody can do about it."
So stop worrying, and enjoy your life.

I'm not afraid to die, I believe it to be like becoming unconscious, only you never ever wake up again.
I want to live many, many years more before I die though, as I believe that death lasts forever.

As an atheist, and can say without reservation that I am not afraid to die.
It has been my observation and experience, however, that Christians are, in fact, afraid of dying. I presume it's because, no matter how "good" a Christian they are/were, somewhere, in the back of their mind, there is/was always a tiny nagging voice telling them that their imaginary friend might still find them "guilty" and send them to hell.

As an atheist I have not the least little tiniest fear of death. It's no more scary than never have been born.
What I do fear is dying, I've seen way too many protracted, painful deaths for that. I intend heading to Switzerland for a OD of sodium pentobarbital when my time comes.

Certainly, we're all going to die, and though death be eternal non-existence, obviously it means we wont ever be aware of anything at all. But, while we are alive, there's no reason for spreading misery among the rest of the living, as many religionists insist on doing.
Of course, one man's spreading misery is another man's doing great works for an invisible and entirely man-made cloudster. We get one chance at life. We should take that chance and spread happiness where we can instead of letting those who are mentally ill poison us with their insanity.
