Quote# 80271

It just shows your faith. True Christians can laugh with joy when threatened with death. Most people think we are totally psychotic for that. We don't have a deathwish, we just know where we are headed is infinetely better if we do pass on somehow.

Christians should be the only people on the planet NOT afraid to die. I have a smile on my face all the time because of this knowledge. If I die, I WIN!

Dionysus: You probably don't want to see Planescape: Torment, then.

Well, as a spiritual person (though a Wiccan), I think similarly as idiot-fundie, here....Death's not the end, we're eternal, so no need to "Fear The Reaper"....that said, I don't share the context & manner of how this guy says it. NPBF is an idiot & a fundy meatball & his smug, exclusivist attutude would make the real Yeshua Bar Yoseph, that great 2000-year-old Jewish Holyman/Mystic/Mage/Social & Religious Reformer (whom followers decided to Deify & equate with the Demiurge despite their often contradictory natures) facepalm.

Wait, there actually IS a video game where you win by dying? You've piqued my curiosity.

Well why not be a winner and drink the frickin' Kool Aid already? And like others have pointed out, the more religious people are the more afraid of dying they really are. There have been studies which showed that religious people were more likely to request life-prolonging medical treatment when faced with terminal illness or kept on life support systems than non-religious people.

Not related, but that was my first thought.

I doubt that you win anything by dying. At most, you'll end up looking like what people call a complete dumbass.

@SolomonGrundy:

> What I do fear is dying, I've seen way too many protracted, painful deaths for that. I intend heading to Switzerland for a OD of sodium pentobarbital when my time comes.

I agree absolutely. When my death comes about, I hope it is either sudden or that the worst part of any fatal illness falls in a particularly harsh winter. I want, towards the end of my chosen day, to still have the strength to walk up into the hills above my home, to sit at the edge looking down over the vale and to take enough sleeping pills to ensure a peaceful end from hypothermia. I will leave a letter pinned to my jacket, apologising to whoever finds my body and asking them not to be upset.

Choice and self-control define dignity. I certainly won't be making an appeal to superstition when my time comes.

"Christians should be the only people on the planet NOT afraid to die."

Too bad there are atheists, Pagans, Muslims, Jews who aren't afraid to die. Why? It is inevitable. It is a natural part of life.

"I have a smile on my face all the time because of this knowledge. If I die, I WIN!
"

That sounds suicidal.

And no one really knows where they are headed after death.

Eh, you call this fundie, I call it the logical conclusion if you believe in an afterlife.

That being said; commit suicide, meet Jesus.

Very telling about the psychology of Christianity. Smug superiority, masochism, and an anti-life attitude which is almost like nihilism.
It is also extremely similar to the mindset of the Islamic martyrdom suicide bomber.

Yeah, you ARE psychotic. Meaning you can't tell the difference between fantasy and reality.

I agree with Solomon Grundy. I'm an atheist and have no fear of death. Dying, however, is another matter. As an official old man I might add that Christians have always seemed to me to be considerably more reluctant to die than non-Christians.

So what's with everyone else on the your forum shaking in their boots, convinced the government is going to round them up and gas them.

That's a fine philosophy, by all means, it makes sense. If your so convinced of this heaven thing, that is.

Still, I call bullshit. I have never in my life seen a christian who isn't terrified of death, and I seriously doubt your actually an exception.

I'd conclude that this person is so mortally terrified of death that he'd trade anything for a few more moments of life.

No matter how I interpret this, it sounds suicidal. I'm voting it down because he was obviously suicidal without anything to do with his religion. As to the people who have inevitably suggested that he go through with it, you are just making it worse.

> True Christians can laugh with joy when threatened with death.

Oh yes, and some go further - they can laugh with joy when they hear that they can sacrifice themselves for glory of God by blowing infidels up!

*frown* ...Or wasn't that that what the other faith was doing? Oh well, some days you just can't tell fundies apart.

@dionysus: Your character is thousands of years old and effectively unkillable, but loses his memory every time he dies. The goal is to a) get back your memory, and b) die.
