Isn't it interesting that the African Americans that were brought here against their will, coercively, in bondage, in chains, in a horrific experience called slavery. They were forced here and they end up being in state by state, many cases, what has saved us from the bondage and enslavement that would come upon us if gay marriage actually passed in a state. California being a prime example where the African Americans saved us from the bondage we would have faced.

Lemme see if I got this logic. Blacks were brought here as slaves so that 200 years later they would be a political force to vote against gay marriage? Thereby releiving you of being in bondage? Because gay marriage would make you a slave???
Oh shit, my logic circuits just melted down.
Norman! coordinate!!!
I had no idea that legalizing gay marriage would take you away from your homeland and family, force you to toil away in the fields all day for nothing, and take away all of your human rights. Why do morons keep comparing their little inconveniences to either slavery or the Holocaust? If I was African American I'd be extremely offended by the comparison. Actually, scratch that, I'm still offended by that comparison.
So...you think that if gay people were to get married, they would somehow be able to chain you up and treat you as property?
That's funny. You're funny.
"Isn't it interesting that the African Americans that were brought here against their will, coercively, in bondage, in chains, in a horrific experience called slavery."
This is not a complete sentence. It makes no sense.
"They were forced here and they end up being in state by state, many cases, what has saved us from the bondage and enslavement that would come upon us if gay marriage actually passed in a state."
They are dead. They did nothing.
What? You're actually trying to equate the freedom of letting gay people marry who they want to with slavery?
I really haven't heard any reports of slavery being legal in the states where gay marriage is legal. If you have, please enlighten me.
What? That does not compute...
And this guy is a DOCTOR?! Please tell me his Ph.D. is in something completely irrelevant, such as English literature (no offense to any English majors who may be here).
This picture makes more sense than you:

(Also, @Brendan Rizzo: Please don't confuse the study of literature in general with things like postmodernist literary criticism).
Dear Dr. Garlow,
be assured that BDSM is not restricted to gay men and women. It is very common among straights too. So the bondage to which you so lovingly refer is already upon you.
I find it interesting that you refer to slavery as an experience. Experiences tend to be quite transitory. Slavery was anything but transitory. I lasted for hundreds of years in the Americas and elsewhere. But again, perhaps your choice of words is hnting at sex games.
Your second sentence is very confusing. What are you trying to say? I mean really. Are secretly hoping to be forced into a gay marriage? If you are, I have to say that you always have the right to deny assent, so that you cannot be forced.
OTOH, those who are gay and who wish to bond into a legal relationship do not in the least affect the rights of straights and their religious mumbo-jumbo rite of matrimony.
So kindly get the twist out of your knickers and at least try to sound like a someone with the intelligence one would expect of a doctor.
Oops, Rethuglicans have discovered that there are black fundies. The current campaign to reframe the pro-choice movement as genocide is one of the most duplicitous lies that has even been pushed upon the Black community. Fortunately, most Black voters, even fundies, recognize that the people courting their vote are the same people who want to do away with affirmative action and every social program that ever helped Blacks get a toehold in the middle class.
Freedom is slavery. War is peace. Ignorance is stength. Especially the last.
Oh, by the way, the best predictor of support for same-sex marriage is level of education. I wonder how that fits into your world view.
So if gay marriage had passed, you'd have been forced to marry a black gay man?
Wow, what a narrow escape HE had!
The Mormons and the Knights of Columbus paid for an advertising blitz in black neighborhoods during that election which claimed, falsely (as in, Bearing False Witness---ring a bell?), that Barack Obama supported the law banning gay marriage and wanted them to vote for it, which many of them did, believing they were supporting him. Other ads told them their churches could be sued for refusing to perform gay marriages, another lie. When it was made public immediately after the election that they had been tricked, those black voters were pissed off about it, and many said they would have voted the other way had they known the facts. It appears that by your logic, God's plan was actually to bring on Joseph Smith and those Mormons you love to hate rather than slavery, wouldn't it?
"Interesting"? Slavery is tragic, horrific, dehumanizing--not interesting.
Gay marriage involves the same bondage and enslavement as straight marriage: none.
You are a lying bigot.
Whiskey, tango, foxtrot?
What are you on? We've had same-sex marriage in Canada for over five years. The impact it has had on heterosexual marriage, and my marriage in particular is exactly zero.
You sanctimonious morons just need to grow up.
Dis white man be tellin' da troof, by and large, colored folk don't take to dat homosexuality. It sho be ironic dat we condescended from heathens in Africa and now we's mo' Christian dan da whitey. It was da will of Jebus dat brought us here to America to be shown da Light, an' dat was worf slabery a hundred times ober. Unfortunately dere is some colored folk out dere dat holds a grudge 'gainst white folk and don't realize dat dey was spared eternal hellfire. Praise da Lawd!
Yeah, in the 2008 elections in California, the most black voters voted for Prop 8. There is a certain irony in watching a minority that has been horribly oppressed in the past voting to oppress others. It's like watching people with Irish heritage freaking out over immigration. However, seeing as Prop 8 has been found unconstitutional and has been overturned, this has no bearing on reality. The majority of black voters also voted for democrats. The majority of black voters also voted for Barack Obama. Barack Obama has said that he believes DOMA to be unconstitutional and halted the federal government's defense of DOMA. Barack Obama also was in favor of repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell.
The descendants of American slaves are not going to save from "teh gay." As a whole, America is becoming more and more accepting of gay people. Younger people tend to be more accepting of gays than older people. This applies not just to one racial group, but America as a whole.
Also, not all black voters voted for Prop 8. There are black people who are not only completely accepting of gays and in favor of legalizing gay marriage, but are gay themselves.
And how can anyone ever draw any connection between the brutality of slavery and allowing gays to have equal rights? How can anyone equivocate the discrimination suffered by black American to ending discrimination against gays? How warped does your sense of morality have to be that you can consider gay marriage the equivalent of slavery? How utterly distorted must your view of reality be that this comparison can even make any sort of sense?
The gays do not want to tie you up and anally probe you. Or were you speaking metaphorically? And if so, you are even a bigger douchebag for relating gay marriage to the enslavement of people because a teeny weeny bit of their DNA was different.
Doctorate in Theology by the way, which is about the same thing as having a Doctorate in Dr. Seuss.
Word salad, anyone?
Please learn some grammar, please! It should be "Isn't it interesting that X did Y?", not "Isn't it interesting that X."
That X what? You have to say that IN THE SAME SENTENCE, stupid!
Gay marriage will have absolutely no impact on your life, whatsoever, little Jimmy.
We've had registered partnership for ten-odd years, and gay marriage for about one year, and nothing else has happened here.
More people are able to promise each other lifelong fidelity before God and this congregation, or before a judge, if that's what they want.
Did you just compare gay marriage to slavery? Slavery was an atrocious act and way of life forced upon blacks in this country. They were whipped, beaten, raped. Gay marriage is merely equal rights for gays.
...a horrific experience called slavery.
As I recall, Jesus and Paul were both rather keen on the idea of slavery...at least neither of them thought it important enough to condemn it.
This goober got his doctorate from "Boxtop University".
I think what he is saying is that tolerating LGBTs is slavery, much like those nimrods who equate 'tolerance' with 'religious persecution'.
Needless to say, this guy needs to give himself a nice Tabassco enema & take a leisurely swim in a Spent Fuel Pool at a nuclear plant, thus obtaining that nice healthy glow that drives the big-haired inbred fundie chicks wild!
Isn't it interesting that the African Americans that were brought here against their will, coercively, in bondage, in chains, in a horrific experience called slavery.
I know this isn't the Wheel of Fortune, but can I buy a verb for the subject of the subordinate clause highlighted in boldface italics above?
I'm dying in finding out what it is they did that is so interesting.
You know, people have brought up an interesting question -- exactly where did this guy get his doctorate? How could anyone this nuts manage to get a doctorate.
It appears he got his doctorate from Drew University. Which is actually an accredited school. So I doubt his doctoral dissertation began "Hello, my name is Jim Garlow . . . "
Which is actually even more depressing really.
But upon googling Jim Garlow to find out where he got his doctorate, I discovered something else that rather disturbed me.
I know the church he's at. My family used to drive by it every time we went to the movies.
@#*%!!
I just knew it was a big freaking church. I didn't ever suspect that their senior pastor spouted such drivel. Gah. Now I'm worried that the stupid has infected me, that it was slowly reaching out and contaminating my brain every time I drove by the place.
I apologize on behalf of everyone who has ever lived and ever will live in Southern California for this. I'm sorry. I don't know why there's this giant church in my hometown with a senior pastor that says such insane garbage. I'm glad I don't live there anymore, so I no longer have to worry about the stupid infecting me. But Jesus Christ . . . I know people who go to that church . . . and most of them are nice, sane people. How do they tolerate having a guy like this as a pastor?

Doctorate in Dr. Seuss from Close-Cover-Before-Striking University
April First, hahahaha
Too bad it doesn't excuse the insanity from the whole rest of the year.
Funny. The arrogant fundie talks of bondage and enslavement.
How about you spend a month in one of North Korea's concentration camps. Then you can come back and tell us all about "bondage and enslavement".
Again with this blacks made Prop 8 pass BS. Both sides went overboard with that and in the process ostracized black GLBT people.
What enslavement is going on in Massachusetts, Conneticut, Iowa, and all the other states where gay marriage is legal that I'm not hearing about?
Can conservatives GET any more full of bullshit? Spend huge amounts of their own time and money preventing gay marriage, then when the gay people are pissed off, help propagate the lie that black people passed Prop 8 because it takes the heat off you. Even if every single black person in the state had voted for it, that wouldn't be a majority without bunches of other votes for it.
I have nothing to say to anyone, gay or straight, liberal or conservative, who actually believes that line. Blame the Mormons, blame the conservatives in general, blame a system that thinks the civil rights of a minority group should be put to a vote in the first place, but DON'T blame people that were only marginally more likely to vote for Prop 8.
Please don't do this thing you're doing anymore. Whatever your job is, you are very bad at it.
If I'm reading you right, your statement is, "Slavery was a GOOD thing because it blocked gay marriage, which would have enslaved WHITE people!"
Yeah, and I'm sure that thought was what helped poor Kunta Kinte when he was torn from his family, sodomized, branded, renamed, mutilated, and his wife was raped. His only comfort must have been knowing that one day you would be imaginary-freed from fake-slavery not-caused by rights that have really changed nothing for anyone except their victors in the states where it's happened.
You're a taint.
What are you saying? That the horrific experience called slavery is a walk in the park compared to the bondage and enslavement of gay marriage?
So that's the problem with all countries in Europe, who have passed gender neutral marriage laws? We didn't kidnap people, chain them and bring them to our countries to work themselves to death for generations. Instead we suffer the bondage and enslavement of gay marriage? I must say it's an extremely invisible and non-tangible bondage and enslavement. I haven't noticed anything, whatsoever.
Bondage?
Sounds kinky.
Idiot.
Confused?
