[In a thread about the earthquake in Japan]

I am baffled as to why we haven't had a bad earthquake on our west coast yet. We're certainly overdue in more ways than one. It would not surprise me if we're next, considiering our government's treatment of Israel, AND all the blatant in-your-face sin in our country.

You mean like how we're sending them billions in aid and military resources every year?

Oh, you don't keep up on earthquakes in California? Here's let me give you a quick rundown (I'll start with 1991);

1991 8 16 2226 41 38.00 125 52.00 6.3 W. of Crescent City
1991 8 17 1929 40 17.00 124 14.00 6.2 Punta Gorda
1991 8 17 2217 41 41.00 126 3.00 7.1 W. of Crescent City

1992 4 23 450 33 58.00 116 19.00 6.1 Joshua Tree
1992 4 25 1806 40 20.00 124 14.00 7.2 Cape Mendocino
1992 4 26 741 40 26.00 124 36.00 6.5 Cape Mendocino
1992 4 26 1118 40 23.00 124 35.00 6.6 Cape Mendocino
1992 6 28 1157 34 12.00 116 26.00 7.3 Landers
1992 6 28 1505 34 12.00 116 50.00 6.2 Big Bear

1994 1 17 1230 34 13.00 118 32.00 6.7 Northridge
1994 9 01 1515 40 27.00 125 54.00 6.9 Mendocino Fracture Zone
1994 9 12 1223 38 49.00 119 37.00 6.0 Carter's Station, Nevada

1995 2 19 403 40 37.00 125 54.00 6.6 W. of Eureka
1995 9 20 2327 35 46.00 117 38.00 5.5 Ridgecrest
1996 7 24 2016 41 47.04 125 54.66 5.7 W. of Eureka
1997 1 22 717 40 16.32 124 23.64 5.7 Punta Gorda
1999 8 1 1606 37 23.40 117 4.80 5.7 Scotty's Junction, Nevada
1999 10 16 947 34 35.64 116 16.26 7.1 Hector Mine
2000 3 16 1520 40 23.16 125 16.74 5.9 Mendocino Fracture Zone
2003 12 22 1916 35 41.98 121 5.84 6.5 San Simeon
2004 9 28 1715 35 48.90 120 22.44 6.0 Parkfield

I guess your god's destructive power has not been very effective against our sin.

First: Earthquakes do not work this way.

Second: "Sin" has nothing to do with earthquakes. Earthquakes are caused by shifting tectonic plates.

Third: Even in the extremely improbable case that the fundie god is real, and he really punishes allegedly "sinful" nations by sending earthquakes, why are the scandinavian countries (which are the most atheistic, most supporting of homosexuality, most 'liberal' economic system etc...) among the most earthquake-free nations in the world? (Well, the answer is easy: They are located in a geologically very inactive region, and the fundie 'God' does not exist. Thats all.)

Raptards love two things:

1. God
2. The misery of others

Not necessarily in that order.

4/6/2011 4:56:12 AM

Mister Spak

God will keep trying until he hits the right target.

BECAUSE EARTHQUAKES DO NOT WORK THAT WAY

GOODNIGHT

4/6/2011 5:02:56 AM

dionysus

Given god's infamous aim, if he's trying to punish the US the earthquake will end up somewhere off the coast of Africa.

4/6/2011 5:34:41 AM

Pule Thamex

Yes indeed, most puzzling? I couldn't agree with you more, God is certainly being somewhat lax.

4/6/2011 5:41:25 AM

Doubting Thomas

Because all sin is focused on the West Coast. Or in New Orleans. But what makes you think that the earthquake in Japan wasn't God's revenge for the sin of Americans? After all, that's about how good his aim seems to be.

Fundies Make Me Sick

Die in a fire, that is all.

Most geologists expect there to be a big one in California within the next 30 years or so. But when it happens, it won't be the result of any god wreaking his revenge. It's just plates shifting.

4/6/2011 6:38:37 AM

LAchlan

Because humanity isn't ultimately so important that it can influence the shifting of the earth's tectonic plates.

At least he said West Coast, since there is in fact a fault line there. However, the fact that he would immediately attribute such an earthquake to sin proves that he does not understand one thing about geology and must have slept through the entire class back in middle school. Yeah, I learned that earthquakes have a natural cause in middle school. Shouldn't he have done the same?

But also, I have a couple friends on the West Coast. I can't believe that this guy is anticipating the notion of a serious earthquake there, as if it were a good thing! Especially because his "justifications" mean diddly-squat! (I cannot think of one country that is more consistently allied with Israel than the United States and the existence of non-Christians and gays is not "blatant in-your-face sin".)

4/6/2011 7:10:10 AM

Mmmm yes, just think about all the suffering an M9 quake and possible tsunami would cause. Thousands dead, more displaced and injured....fapworthy indeed.

Even pretending momentarily to think like a Raptard makes me feel dirty.

You fail geology, plate tectonics forever. It has nothing to do with sin. Or perhaps god doesn't mind the sins.

4/6/2011 8:23:14 AM

Why does the quake have to be on the west coast? The largest fault line in the US is in the Mid-West. Right through bible country.

The United States isn't treating Israel nicely? Seriously? The last time I looked at the stats, it was estimated that we've given them well over $100 billion. We're also continuing to give them more money every single year. How terrible of us to give them billions upon billions of dollars in free money!

4/6/2011 9:09:58 AM

Swede

Guess all the pious and faithful live here in Scandinavia then, while New Orleans and Italy are full of atheist sinners.

Your government's treatment of Israel? It's treated like a beloved and spoiled child. Not unlike the treatment by Mr and Mrs Dursley of their son Dudley in Harry Potter-verse, as a matter of fact.
Whatever Israel does, the US is there to defend and support it, against people/countries who think Israel should take responsibility for its actions.

4/6/2011 9:12:55 AM

Because your god's not real and earthquakes are random natural occurrences.

Fuck off, Headache. Your US hate is pretty much on par with Fundy bigotry at this point. How many times have you been cluebatted about this shit?
