Quote# 80410

I almost wish that there would be, like, a simultaneous telecast, and all Americans would be forced–forced at gunpoint no less–to listen to every David Barton message, and I think our country would be better for it.

I wish that every right-wing fundie would be forced at gunpoint to recant their insane 'faith', and become Atheists. I think the USA would be better for it.

...what's that, Mike Fuckabee? Sounds nasty? almost like 'Persecution'?

Well now you know how you sound to everyone else.

One thing that should be forced on US news programmes (especially Faux News): Neutrality.

'Opinions' have no place on TV news. Only present the facts, and let the viewer work things out for themselves. BBC News and Reuters do so. It wouldn't kill the US to do the same.

PROTIP: Better pray that nobody had a digital audio recorder at that conference you spoke at, Mr. Fuckabee. Or a miniature video camera (they're even pen-sized). You'd soon learn what our politicians here in the UK realised years ago: there's no such thing as 'Off the Record' anymore.

...and don't dare come out later on with 'My words were taken out of context' or similar bullshit. 'Out of Context'. The standard transparent excuse of those caught saying what they shouldn't.

The US Constitution's Freedom of Speech doesn't mean you can say what you really mean. Not if you value your standing in civilised society/career/life.

The US Constitution doesn't guarantee that people will ignore what you think of them, Mr. Fuckabee. Nothing can protect you from public opinion, nor their change in attitude towards you as a result.

(emphasis added):

'Never allow people to give you their opinion. The trouble is, they'll tell you.

-Nick Abbot, LBC Radio presenter

'Opinions are like arses: everyone has one, but not everyone wants to air theirs in public. They certainly don't want yours shoved in their faces.'

But but but...we have biased news outlets like Fox News and right wing talk radio for a reason. Why, both came into existence in reaction to the outrageous liberal bias (read: neutral, fact-based reporting) of outlets like CNN in the 90s."

(*smacks forehead*)

Oh, of course, how stupid of me? I forgot: the poor Repubicans, Teabaggers, Neocunts, Religious Right, trailer-trash Redneck inbreds et al don't have brains to be able to work things out for themselves; they need to be spoon-fed 'opinions', so they can know what to think. Thinking for themselves makes the brainmeats all hurty, the poor little 'hoemskuled' loveykins. Dere dere, mummy will switch over the channel to take away da nasty BBC America News, with their naughty 'Neutral' and 'unopinionated' news, and put it on Faux News. Because it does the thinking for you.

[/sarcasm] ;)

But a simultaneous telecast leaves the problem: who will point the guns at the guys who do the gun-pointing? They're Americans too, right, so they should be forced to listen at gunpoint too?

I guess you need to call the guys at the nearest Islamic theocracy and ask for a little bit of help. You know, just once. Doesn't have to signify anything.

Mike Huckabee, advocate of small, unobtrusive government and stalwart champion of the constitutional rights and liberties of the individual, apparently thinks that the government has the authority to force its citizens to listen to state-endorsed religious broadcasts under penalty of death.

Color me surprised.

Similarly, fundies should be forced to read Bertrand Russell and Richard Dawkins's works at gunpoint. (rolls eyes).

At gun point. Doesn't sound very Christian. And how would it be better? Because we would know how stupid David Barton really is and why you needed to force us to? Also I'd rather be shot.

You can put a gun to my head and force me to listen to crap, but you can never force me to believe it.

Just a reminder, Chuck Norris fans: the man you idolize WANTS THIS GUY TO BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT.

I'm glad said speech was recorded for posteriority, as his own words can now be used (I've KeepVid-ed & downloaded said YouTube clip, as no doubt many others have) against him. As said blog states (emphasis added):

"[below: the unedited footage from Huckabee's speech, with the "joke" about indoctrinating Americans at gunpoint to be found at at 1:06. Footage courtesy of Kyle Mantyla of Rightwing Watch, who might have almost single-handedly consigned Huckabee's presidential hopes to the dustbin of history.]"

Like I say, Mr. Fuckabee: The US Constitution doesn't guarantee that people will ignore what you think of them. Nothing can protect you from public opinion, nor their change in attitude towards you as a result. No excuse in the world, post-gaffe, will change that, neither.

Another loop added to the perpetual P.R. traincrash that are Repubicans, Teabaggers, Neocunts, Religious Right et al. Everything you do, think and - especially in this case - say, is one more step towards your own self-annihilation. The way things are going, President Obama's 2nd term is all but assured. Just keep it up, right-wingers*.

And we Atheists don't even have to lift a finger.

Dance, our puppets, dance.

>:D

*- Oh, and your wish to have Sarah Failin for the Repubican presidential candidate ticket? As some have claimed, just to piss off we 'liberals'? Oh au contraire, GOPers. We insist that you nominate Failin. Please? Pretty please, with sugar, and nay, even a cherry on top?!

Nuthin' says freedom like forcing people to listen to crap at gunpoint. And this guy wants to be president!

Damn... and to think I used to like the guy.

I should have payed attention to his speeches.

EDIT: After 2 years, I'm actually starting to like Obama. When he first ran, I thought he was too far left. Either he changed, or I listened to too much right-wing propaganda.

Please let them pick a candidate even more crazy than this creep, that we may have a really really easy choice between the greater and lesser evils in two years.

Though if C'Thulhu ever runs, screw the lesser evil. I want to get eaten early on.

"When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and waving a cross."

Nothing illustrates this statement better than Huckabee's quote. I had to look up who David Barton is, and apparently he's yet another Christian nationalist preacher who apparently believes that if you live here in the U.S., you don't have any right to not be Christian.

"I almost wish that there would be, like, a simultaneous telecast, and all Americans would be forced–forced at gunpoint no less–to listen to every David Barton message, and I think our country would be better for it."

====================

Translated into English:

I almost wish (that) there were a simultaneous telecast, and all Americans were forced – forced at gunpoint no less – to listen to every David Barton message. I think our country would be the better for it.
================

Even in proper English, I am not at all clear what this is about. It seems like this is a dictator who is forcing the American people to his will at the point of a gun. Is this the death of democracy?

BTW, Is David Barton a new god?

That's assuming any of them know how to read.

David Barton is a fundie historian who writes texbooks. He is the history version of a creationist. His books have the American founding fathers as members of an extremist sect that didn't exist back then. He claims they were creationists, were opposed to separation of church and state, wanted everyone to own a gun, didn't allow abortion because it was against their religion, and wrote the constitution to set up the US to be a christian dictatorship.

tmarcl:

There is a third option. Conservatives in America are getting so batshit crazy that these are the only people who can win in the Republic primary.

So do I. The ensuing arrests and the backlash of anger might see an end to you assholes! The only downside will be caring for those who subsequently gouged their eyes out with an ice pick.

Who the fuck is David Barton and why should I give a shit what he had to say? (I'm a Canadian after all)
By the way, nice way to defend American civil liberties for someone who wants to be President.
Fuck you, Mike Huckabee!

The Huckster sounds affable and speaks in complete sentences but don't let that fool you. He's stark, raving, mad. When one actually examines the words that he says one discovers that his goal is nothing less than a fundamentalist Cristian theocracy.

As for Barton; from what I can tell he has never uttered a single statement that was accurate and true. He does, however, fully endorse the same theocratic ideals that the Huckster aspires to.

4/6/2011 10:46:27 AM

If such a day comes, I will kill myself before allowing any such obscene coercion to be imposed on me.

And who is David Barton? No on second thoughts if I was really that interested in knowing who he was, I'd type his name into Google.

More to the point, who's Mike Huckabee?
