David Barton? The so-called "historian" who writes books claiming the Founding Fathers wanted a Christian theocracy? Who claims the idea of the separation of church and state is a liberal fabrication from recent years? The moronic asshole who writes textbooks for the Christian homeschooling market that describe Thomas Jefferson as a devout fundamentalist Christian?
That David Burton, Huck?

Not to play devil's advocate here, but this comment was meant as a joke. In very poor taste for a presidential hopeful yes, but I'm above crucifying Huckabee for a simple joke. We should focus on the insane things he says and believes in earnest.

Zimmer, if this genuinely was a joke, it was in incredibly poor taste. It shouldn't be taken any differently than the rest of the batshit crazy that drops out of Huckabee from time to time.

It is a well known fact that religion, since the dawn of mankind, has often been established by the use of a threat-based strategy. Weapons are a very important part of enforcing belief throughout a population. Favourite tools of the trade over the years have been clubs, swords, torture implements, and now guns.
No wonder Bible God is so fond of eternal torture as a punishment for even the merest of imagined slights.

Because making citizens of a free world to listen to an evangelist at gun point would make them better.
And remember, only Muslims are terrorists.

Yeah, well there was absolutely nothing fucking funny about it. Not remotely. Sorry to be all butthurt about "joke," but for a serious presidential hopeful (not governor of backwoods Arkansas, but Commander in Chief of the most powerful military on Earth) to be conveying this little fantasy to his American Taliban buddies, Mike Fundie Fuckabee made it clear just what a threat he is to this nation.
"I wish it'd happen"
And to you Mike, I sincerely wish someone would kick you in the nuts with steel toes - in other words, GTFO.

all Americans would be forced–forced at gunpoint no less–to listen to every David Barton message
Wow, Jesus must be soooo proud of the commitment of his flock:
"If anyone slaps you on the right cheek ... then stuff a fucking constitutionally sanctioned gun down his throat and force him to see things your way. Amen"

I'd never heard of David Barton until I read this thread, but that isn't the point. The point is that Huckabee clearly has no idea of the meaning of "freedom" - and he wants to run for President????
Please, Americans, if he does run, vote for the other person - even if it's Donald Duck.

Presumably he then goes on to say that democracy is under threat from Obama and rants a bit about the constitution.

David Barton is one of the Seven Mountains people - the people who are actively pushing for a theocratic revolution in the United States, and are doing so by targeting seven key areas (of which they control three or four) in which wealth and power are centered in the US.
So yeah, bringing his words to light would at least get the word out about this movement and what they're doing...

It's not a joke anyway, Huckabee's been around for years and enforced indoctrination into Christianity for the schools and public offices has always been part of his American dream.
He's never been the top man because of his commitment to the church, oh sure it gets him a following but most people don't want churcys in charge.
He's always been upfront about it unlike Rove, Gingrach, Palin, Cheney or W who all will avoid it at mainstream feeds but in front of tea-party or religious venues will call for Biblical values and church ran goverment

Okay, let's assume that he's just joking about putting a gun to everyone's head. He still thinks that taking the ravings of some crazy nationalist historical revisionist theocrat seriously would improve the country which is fundie enough for me. The 'joke' in poor taste is just the toxic cherry on top of the shit sundae.

I think the worst part is that in the unedited clip with the quote, the audience chuckles. That's scary.

Whoda thunk it was a joke! It's certainly in very poor taste, and indicative of the unsuitability of Huckabee for public office.

I'm not.

Hey Mike Fuckabee; no doubt you're an NRA gunfucker too.
Here's something highly appropriate for you. And no pointing at one's own foot required:
You'll certainly need it when you're
not nominated by the GOP - then you realise
why; all the while Obama is handed his 2nd term on a gold platter.
*- Meanwhile the big Digital switchover here in the UK is going on apace, with nary a complaint (set-top boxes have dropped in price dratically; in many cases, just £17 from major supermarkets). The analogue switchoff starts here in Yorkshire first - in August 2011. I bought my box several years ago. I'm all ready for when analogue radio goes off air permanently in the next year or so; I have three DAB radios.
