We’ve seen the transformation of America, when at the pinnacle of its Christianity was probably in the 1950s. Ever since then it has been declining, why? Because of the sexual revolution. Where did the sexual revolution come from? The sexual revolution came from the activists of the American gay movement.

I grew up in the '50s. Back then, they blamed the 'decline' on gangs, rock 'n roll, and the fact that after WWII, everybody wanted to catch up on all the fun they'd missed out on. I wasn't even aware that gays existed until the 1970s, long after the '60s sexual revolution triggered by the birth control pill.
Right, because gay people convinced a bunch of young adults & teenagers to go out & have heterosexual sex. Heterosexuals never wanted to have sex until gay people told them how much fun it is.
And just because TV shows from the 50's showed people going to church doesn't mean that everyone did.
Yup, typical fundie still stuck in the 50s. And not the real 50s where we had rampant racism and sexism, housewives were driven to alcoholism out of both boredom and despair, teens were getting pregnant (due to both "the pill" not being invented and contraceptives being a huge taboo), and many people getting really fed up with all of the repression and conformity that clearly wasn't working (thus the need for the sexual revolution) but the nostalgia filter-ridden Leave it to Beaver variety. That's not to say that the 50s were entirely bad but one needs to take the good with the bad to form an accurate picture. Idealizing the past and viewing it through rose-tinted glasses and then trying to bring us "back" to that past can only end in failure. Actually, as the circumstances have changed and we are not the same people anymore (plus the fact that not everyone WANTS to live in the past) ANY attempt to bring us back to any era (accurate or not) is doomed to failure.
EDIT: Oh, and it's funny how everyone always thinks we're constantly on the decline. People in every last damn generation seems to think so. Of course, if that were true we'd be digging through the rocks looking for food rather than sending shuttles into space. And if you meant just moral decline, then the civil rights movement shouldn't exist as that happened AFTER your "perfect" 50s.
Your television is not a good example of what the 50's were like Scotty
but I guess civil rights for everyone is too much for you to bare.
Well boohoo
A Roosevelt would NEVER cry over progress
was probably in the 1950s
You're speculating, Scott, so please shut the fuck up!
Earth to fundies: Leave It to Beaver was not a documentary. People still fucked outside of marriage, got drunk, fought, swore, and jacked off; maybe not to HD video of girls getting plowed in the ass, but you can bet your bottom dollar they would have if it would have been around.
I think the real reason why people tried to bad Catcher in the Rye, the story about an alcohol drinking, curse word dropping, angry high school drop out, multiple times was because it was a better representation of 1950's America then the overly romanticized nostalgic crap like Leave it to Beaver.

As with the Counter-Culture of the 1960s (drugs, sex, Love & Peace and all that jazz), there was a similar underground culture in the 1950s. Fetishism (Two words: Bettie Page*). 'Beefcake' magazines (to say nothing of the artworks of Tom of Finland).
...you were saying, Scottypoos...?
*- And in the photo club/private photoshoots, Bettie wasn't averse to doing Beaver shots. Now, I wonder why the 50s TV series "Leave it to Beaver" was never shown in the UK...?!
Actually, one could make a very strong case that our country is at "the pinnacle of its Christianity" today. At no time in its history have their been so many elected officials who flagrantly violate the constitutional separation of church and state. At no time in its history have their been so many who are contemptuous of science and intellectualism.

I think if you were able to process information in a sane fashion, you would find that Christianity in the US started its much-too-slow decline sometime between the shelling of Fort Sumter and Sherman's march. This was in part because of all those devout Christians that were mangling and killing one another. What you saw in the '50s was a resurgence due to political convenience in the organized resistance to Socialism.
Sorry this doesn't align with you prejudices. Carry on with your delusion!
Damn it, I knew this was from Lively. The 1950s sucked balls. I cannot comprehend why anyone would have nostalgia for a time period when blacks, women and gays were persecuted, women were expected to stay in the kitchen, child abuse was covered up, and you were called a communist for daring to object to this insanity. Oh wait, Scott Lively is a Complete Monster. Never mind.
yes because the sexual revolution started in the '50s! Oh wait it started in de mid '60s and really came into the open in the '70s, but who cares for details and facts.
But it all came from the gay movement! oh wait, their road to equality and freedom started in the late '60s and they still have to fight every step of the way, but who cares for details and facts, right?
You believe in the bible, the bible is true so all the bullshit and hate you spit out must be true, right?
....or goofy poodle skirts, stupid crew cuts and gallons on pomade! Who put the bop in the bop-shoo-bop-shoo-bop! The hell? Wall-to-wall dork-o-rama!
HOORAY FOR THE 1960's! GROOVY!

Thanx for the YouTube links. Irving Klaw was famous for his 'Catfighting Cuties' reels, but the biggest turn-ons for me were the ones he did of Bettie (pbuh) posing and (pseudo)-stripping, or putting on her trademark lingerie, seamed stockings, and those lethal heels:

Ah, Bettie Page. Queen of Curves. Goddess of Glamour. Sex incarnate in stilettos. We shall never see your like again. ;_;
The sexual revolution came from the activists of the American gay movement.
Well, in that case: Thank you, gay people!
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
