Quote# 80830

New Atheism would be more accurately named FauxAtheism: They don't deny the existence of the supernatural, they just worship devil spirits and call it "Earth science" or environmentalism. When these spiritualists get around to hooking " the planet/Gaia" up to an EKG & showing me "her" heartbeat, pricking "her" with a telephone pole and bringing forth blood &/ getting their messiah David Eick to walk on water, maybe they can legitimately sell it as "science".

You're all over the place with that shit, matey. I think you should speak to nurse Ratchet.

Great straw-man you have there.

4/25/2011 7:57:24 AM

"New Atheism would be more accurately named FauxAtheism" tl;dr...

'Is that right, Ted?'

4/25/2011 8:20:30 AM

That's not atheism.

4/25/2011 8:28:40 AM

I don't even care about being liked at this point, I'd just settle for being hated for stuff that is actually true instead of these stupid legends.

4/25/2011 8:36:52 AM

While I don't feel there is anything "new" about my atheism, I resent your statement that any type of atheism doesn't "deny the existence of the supernatural" or worships anything. Atheism IS the denial of supernatural beings such as gods and "devil spirits." Do not presume to tell me what I believe.

4/25/2011 8:38:12 AM

CSTDT? Also atheism is the lack of belief in supernatural. Not devil worship. Plus you make it sound like the devil is not a bad guy if he is about helping the planet.

Allegory for Jesus

Atheism is environmentalism.
Environmentalism is earth spirit/devil worship.
Lack of belief in gods is therefore earth worship.
David Icke is a prominent atheist environmentalist.
Performing miracles is proof of good science.

How is it even posssible to be this wrong?

4/25/2011 8:42:58 AM

First, who the fuck is David Eick?

Second, you Christians are secret atheists who don't really believe in a god but like the fact that doing so gives you moral superiority.

Now how does it feel to have someone else tell you what you do and do not believe in. As an atheist I don't believe in anything supernatural, and I don't worship anything. I understand that is an impossible idea for Christians and other religious people to wrap your heads around, but just because you can't imagine a life without worship doesn't mean it can't exist.

Philbert McAdamia

So only magic would legitimize science for you?

4/25/2011 8:52:35 AM

I'm an atheist - but just a bog standard one. I do deny the existence of the supernatural. I also study earth science. It doesn't involve worship, just studying what makes certain natural phenomena happen. We don't cover heartbeats or bleeding. We leave that to the biologists. We don't hold much truck with miracles, although the ability to walk on water might aid in the collection of brine samples. In fact, as a general rule, my atheism and my area of study are not things that intersect. On the rare occasion that they do, it's almost always because a religious fundie is talking complete shit. Like right now.

4/25/2011 8:58:24 AM

You're confusing about 5 different groups of people here.

4/25/2011 9:16:49 AM

I don't worship the Earth. I just think it's a bad idea to destroy the only planet we're given.

4/25/2011 9:30:13 AM

My first reaction: No atheist seriously believes that kind of shit.

My second reaction: Oh wait, I know one guy who does, but he's a filthy hippy.

Emulating Vox Day's ignorance and gauche style, does not make you Vox Day, Ted. It just makes you an idiot without a self-aggrandizing blog of your own to spew on. Randomly pulling explanations out of your ass would be dandy if there weren't actual research to be done.

4/25/2011 9:39:42 AM

This is what talking through your ass looks like. Anyone who believes in supernatural nonsense is not an atheist. Don't confuse real science with New Age garbage.
And by the way, environmentalism and Earth sciences are grounded in solid fact based scientific work. Just because the facts disagree with your religious beliefs doesn't invalidate them. It invalidates your point of view.

There isn't nothing more refreshing than a NON-SEQUITUR.

4/25/2011 10:10:16 AM

I read about the afterlife

Hello, my name's Kierstyn and I deny the existence of the supernatural until it can be proven without a reasonable doubt that it is supernatural.

Beth B.

Waaaiitaminute. Are you telling me we've switched messiahs from Richard Dawkins to David Eick? We didn't even have an intermediary Hitchens stage? I'm so out of the loop.

4/25/2011 10:17:08 AM

Not only do you fail at understanding atheism, but also earth science.

4/25/2011 10:24:05 AM

What on Earth...?

4/25/2011 10:46:32 AM

Wait, what? I'm pretty sure no atheist considers Battlestar Galactica producer David Eick the messiah.

Unless he meant David Icke, but I don't know of any atheists who consider him the messiah either. He's the king of conspiracy theory bullshit. Atheists are, pretty much by definition, far too skeptical to take Icke seriously.

Brendan Rizzo

Wow. Talk about thinking that everybody who disagrees with you is on the same side. Most atheists do deny the existence of the supernatural. Hell, I deny the existence of the supernatural (because I understand how natural laws work) and I'm not even an atheist! Earth science is merely the study of the Earth, and a legitimate discipline. Environmentalism is just common sense, utilizing the self-preservation which fundies seem to lack.

The Gaia hypothesis of Lovelock is hotly debated and considered pseudoscience my most scientists in the relevant field (i.e. ecology). Most ecologists do not believe it. As for David Icke... don't make me laugh. The only people who take him seriously are the folks at Above Top Secret and at his own website. This guy has no idea who his opponents actually are.

4/25/2011 10:53:14 AM

Plus you make it sound like the devil is not a bad guy if he is about helping the planet

Par for the course, really. If fundies are right then Satan is tolerant, wants us to feel good about ourselves, wants to protect the planet, wants to give out free healthcare, listens to rock and metal, and is against unprovoked attacks against sovereign nations and using nukes. If I was god I'd immediately put out a restraining order demanding that they quit trying to help me.

On a side note, my Bearded Dragon Lizzy is very amused by the idea of the Royal Family being lizards, although she says that the one called Charles is too ugly, and therefore certainly a mammal.
