Quote# 80865

God is the only one who possesses intrinsic worth, and if he decides that the existence of evil will ultimately serve to glorify him, then the decree is by definition good and justified. One who thinks that God's glory is not worth the death and suffering of billions of people has too high an opinion of himself and humanity. A creature's worth can only be derived from and given by his creator, and in light of the purpose for which the creator made him. Since God is the sole standard of measurement, if he thinks something is justified, then it is by definition justified

Your supreme being is a petty dictator with delusions of adequacy.
You worship a monster and you're too delusional to realize it. A single human life is worth more than your mythical "bearded asshole in the sky," never mind a billion.

Wow, and I thought we ditched feudalism centuries ago.

Translation: Vincent Cheung has no bloody idea what morality is.

It's okay to have that logic with your fucking Lego toys but with people? I mean come on! I don't treat my cats like shit just because I feed them! My parents didn't treat me like shit because they "created" me.

Maybe you shouldn't be worshiping something that has such a low regard for its own creation.

And, a possible slave code circa 1619...

The Master is the only one who possesses intrinsic worth, and if he decides that torment and injustice towards his slaves will ultimately serve to glorify him, then the decree is by definition good and justified. One who thinks that the Master's authority is not worth the death and suffering of all his slaves has too high an opinion of himself and humanity. A creature's worth can only be derived from and given by the one who owns him, and in light of the purpose for which the Master obtained him. Since the Master is the sole standard of measurement, if he thinks certain treatment is justified, then it is by definition justified.

But then again, seeing as he believes in absolute power and not moral absolutes, Vincent probably okays slavery, seeing as his backwards belief system provides no real solid moral code and rule of law once we boil his points down to their gritty remains.

The part that annoys me about this argument is the robbing of the word "good" of any definition whatsoever. It’s just Humpty Dumpty speak.

Sooo.... If I said that God told me that His glory requires you to be fed genitals first into a wood-chipper, you'd comply without a peep, Vince?

Did this raise any "dangerous precedent" red flags for anybody else. This is exactly the danger that theologically based self righteousness poses- if a tiny injustice can be justified in the name of god, what's to stop things from snowballing into war, genocide, nuclear holocaust, etc.

(1) So, God is the author of morality; and (2) all morality - including, I presume, the morality in this thread - comes from God.

(3) We know this because the Bible says so. (Romans 2:15, among others)

(4) The Bible also says God never changes. (Malachi 3:6, among others)

Therefore, morality is absolute and unchanging, and it can be determined in part by looking at the morals of people the world over...

...except apparently when God changes its mind and fiddles with basic morality without bothering to change the intuitive default setting of its creations (e.g., that genocide is wrong).

Conclusion: Vincent Cheung is fucking insane.

And the concrete value of god's intrinsic worth is:

The square root of negative two. Divided by zero.

Thank you for reminding me why I have less and less respect for religion as time goes on. At least you can admit to yourself that this is what you really believe, rather than doing the usual mental gymnastics to get around it.

@ Adrian:

You know, that would be a pretty good idea for an episode of The Twilight Zone or something... wherein some preacher with the exact same professed beliefs as Vincent Cheung here gets brutally murdered, and while he dies his killers say that they are doing it because God told them to. If Cheung saw that, he just might change his mind about this. At least, I hope...

Good grief... Wonder if he'd have the same opinion if he were one of the billions. Prick.

That was an terribly long winded way of simply saying that according to [G]od, we are too stoopid or ignorant to complain. So we shouldn't. I think the Buddhist approach to suffering is much more elegant and doesn't prescribe a first cause in regards that we are to somehow apprehend as loving and benevolent.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, we're all useless pond scum and deserve the worst. Fundies; don't want to think they could possibly be a part of the animal kingdom, nor descended from apes or lower bioforms, but worthless swamp slime, now there you have something. Or mud, no - but dirt, yes. Their god hates our guts and at the same time we are his favorites, because after all, we are made in his image, and are invited to spend eternity playing with him and his zombie son in Better-Than-Disneyland.

I disagree. What now?

No really, I say god is worthless. How do you disprove that? On what grounds does god know better than me? What qualification? I know what you'll say. "He's all powerful, of course he knows better", nope. I see no evidence that power brings wisdom or clarity. All history is full of examples, power corrupts. You'll then repeat "he's the creator, that means he defines his creations", also bull. I make a calculator, then ask that calculator a complicated math question, I don't know better just because I made the calculator.

You can't bring one shred of reasoning to me that proves god is the be all and end all of reason. If he made us able to reason, then we are just as good at it as he.

Can you prove any of these, Vince? Just who is this god you are shilling for? Does he exist outside of your imagination? How can you tell?

Aaand this is part of why I left the church.

Your "God" is a dick, his rules are bullshit (and hypocritical, as "God" is the biggest murderer in the Bible), and your faith is severely misplaced.

Grow up. Open your eyes. Become an ADULT. We don't need some cosmic "sky daddy" to make us behave!
