Quote# 80945

[Lisa Miller, a born-again Christian and "ex-gay", kidnapped her daughter and fled rather than obey a court order to give her daughter to her ex. Pastor Timothy Miller helped her escape.]

She now evidently is living in Central America, beyond the reach of a pernicious legal system which, left to itself, would have wrecked the rest of her daughter’s life, and a pastor is now in jail for the crime of helping this mother protect her daughter from the dark and dangerous influences of abnormal sexuality.

My heart breaks for this mother and child, driven from their native land by the misguided rulings of uncaring judges. And it breaks for Pastor Miller, who, even if he did what he is accused of, is being punished for doing his sacred duty and faithfully discharging his divine responsibility as a shepherd of the sheep.

He could have given Lisa and Isabella up to the wolves, but Jesus had harsh words for a shepherd who would do such a thing. “He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd…sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them…he flees because he cares nothing for the sheep” (John 10:12, 13).

The good shepherd, Jesus says, “lays down his life for the sheep.” That’s what this pastor has done, and he deserves our praise, support and commendation. And he deserves better from a Christian nation than to be thrown in a jail cell with rapists, murderers, child molesters and thieves.

He is in a long and worthy line of spiritual leaders, beginning with the apostles, who also were thrown in jail when they said, “We must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29).

Rosa Parks gained civil rights immortality because she refused an order to obey an unjust law. If there was ever a contemporary case in which civil disobedience is justified, the Lisa Miller case is it. May God have mercy on Lisa Miller, her daughter Isabella, and Pastor Timothy Miller. And may God, the Judge of the living and the dead, bring the guilty before his bar of pure and uncompromising justice.

"Rosa Parks gained civil rights immortality because she refused an order to obey an unjust law."
As a black LGBT person, I say: How dare you compare the Civil Rights struggle to your fundie-based, hateful struggle of today? Us gays are the ones fighting 'unjust laws'. This case is just proof that fundies are the ones destroying families and ruining lives.
BTW: STFU and DIAF

Taking kidnappers of children to task is not unjust you arsehole

Bryan Fischer supports the kidnapping of children. Pass it on.

Translation: Kidnapping is only bad when the parent/s with custody is/are heterosexual.

MY heart is breaking for the poor child! What kind of heartless cuntrag takes a child away from her MOTHER?

Oh yeah, the US is not a christian nation, dumbass.

What a cretin.

For the record, Bryan: Quoting random passages from the Bible does not lend any weight to what you have to say, or endow it with even a hint of veracity; all it does is make you look like the feckless, servile religion-addled moron that you are.

According to statistics; in other words along with other christians.

Mister Spak

Another christianist criminal. When the only reason you don't go on murder and rape rampages is fear of an imaginary torturer it's no surprise when you abuse your child.

And he deserves better from a Christian nation

What Christian nation? Is this report from Uganda or something?

Rosa Parks gained civil rights immortality because she refused an order to obey an unjust law.

Because Rosa Parks totally went and kidnapped people. And the fact that you fundies compare your little hate spats with the civil rights movement should be an outrage to all African Americans and indeed all minorities. Also, custody battles, while you may not like their outcome, are not unjust.

If there was ever a contemporary case in which civil disobedience is justified, the Lisa Miller case is it.

Really? So any time someone doesn't like how a custody battle ends they should just go kidnap the kid/s? Somehow if it was the other way around and it was the gay parent that took the kid to Central America you'd be calling for that parent's blood.

TGRwulf

FUCK YOU! Don't ever compare someone like that to Roas Parks.

Kidnapping a child because you don't agree with a person's worldviews is NOT fighting and unjust law.

It wasn't any kind of great sacrifice to be lauded from on high.. this is a selfish act at best.

Yes, because living life on the run is so healthy for young children. Really builds character.

1. Are we admitting that followers are sheep?

2. Those who place their conscience above the much-vaunted rule of law, and perform acts of civil disobedience, should be fully prepared to live with the consequences. Whining about those consequences makes you less of a martyr and more a spoiled little lawbreaking child. Those who live on principles should be prepared to make a meal of them.

"A very few, as heroes, patriots, martyrs, reformers in the great sense, and men, serve the State with their consciences also, and so necessarily resist it for the most part; and they are commonly treated by it as enemies." - Henry David Thoreau

Praise and support him all you want, but why should you complain when the rest of us think he broke the law and belongs in jail?

Did he really just compare a fundie preacher who helped kidnap a child to Rosa Parks?

a pernicious legal system which, left to itself, would have wrecked the rest of her daughter’s life

Unlike a mother kidnaping her child and going on the run in a foriegn country.

Kidnapping for Jesus? Rosa Parks is turning in her grave...

All right, I read the article and looked in several other sources, and... I don't really understand this. It seems that there was this huge conspiracy involving a variety of conservative Christian groups, linked to Liberty University of all places, and Lisa Miller herself, to get her and her daughter out of the country because she was terrified of her daughter catching "teh ghey". Of course, since the majority of "ex-gays" relapse, the fact that Lisa calls herself an ex-gay alone is enough to destroy her credibility.

According to Fischer's article, Janet Jenkins was sexually abusive to Lisa's daughter, Isabella. Now, this is Bryan Fischer; I can't just take him at face value. No other source mentioned any abuse, and from what I gather Lisa had a falling-out with Janet and wants to destroy her reputation by claiming Janet is a child molester. I wouldn't put that kind of behavior past ANYONE who had a messy divorce, gay or not, so I have the sneaking suspicion that Fischer is deliberately putting a propagandistic spin on this as usual. Considering that custody ultimately went to Janet, not Lisa, there probably was no actual abuse, but you never know, and the fact that the sources that say there were are vitriolic homophobes make one doubt that story...

@Brandon Rizzo

Since the court awarded custody of Isabella to Janet, I sincerely doubt she was actually sexually abusive. According to Fischer, homosexuality = child molestation (naturally).

If Jenkins won custody, it's likely a court found Isabella's biological mother unfit. So yeah, go ahead and praise the unfit mother who committed felony kidnapping and fled to parts unknown just so she'd never see her other mother again.

Is there a Godwin equivilant for people comparing themselves to Rosa Parks like there is for comparing other people to Hitler? It sure is trendy.

You assholes simply don't get it do you? The ones who are destroying this girl's life are her mother, the pastor, and any other sanctimonious idiot who condones their actions in kidnapping this girl away from her other parent.
I hope that pastor Miller rots in jail for a long time, and I hope that Isabella Miller eventually escapes her batshit insane mother and returns to civilization unscathed, no thanks to assholes like you.

4/29/2011 8:56:29 AM

Anon

here's what actually happened.
After the divorce, Miller fled to Virgina and tried to use the conservative courts to weasel out of the custody order. The courts said that legally, they have no standing to rule on that matter and dismissed her claim. Seeing as no state court could legally intervene in another state's legal matter, she fled the country with the help of the pastor.

The pastor, interfering with a legally binding order, was arrested for it.

Fundies Make Me Sick

I hope this woman is caught, taken to trial, convicted and stripped of all parental rights. As for Bryan Fischer, she committed a crime and is likely mentally abusing her daughter, and since you support that, fuck you.

I'm rightly concerned about the poor little girl being taken away from one of her mothers! I think in cases of child kidnapping that no matter where on earth the kidnapper goes, the home country should be able to bring the child back. That's one hell of a loop hole that needs attention ASAP.

I hope that when Isabella gets older she finds her other real mom. Lisa Miller is an asshole. I wish there was a hell for her to burn in!
