There is only room for one truth when it comes to Creation. Thus the orthodox evolutionary theories must fall or better yet, be completely demolished. These theories include Plate Tectonics and the Big Bang. You cannot “mix” Biblical Creation and evolutionary theories. They are like oil and water. Yet when faced with answering THE central question everyone must come to terms with, our origins, many folks wish to intertwine the two into one. Either one is true, and the other is false, period. You cannot fit a square peg in a round hole but many try simply because of their built-in, or better yet engrained scientific ideas that we all have been taught since kindergarten. When these concepts come tumbling down upon proven to be false, many will be left bumfuzzled as to why these ideas were even taught in the first place. Therefore we have a defense mechanism that goes up when our engrained “learning” is challenged. Rightfully so as these ideas are taught as "truth" in everything we see and know. "What is truth" Pilate asked Jesus... So let’s begin to swing the evolutionary wrecking ball and explore truth. Exploring truth will inevitably expose lies and massive fraud.
"For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word." Isaiah 66:2

Funny...I seem to remember creationists using plate tectonics to explain how different animals were able to cross the oceans after the Flood, claiming that the continents had not yet separated at that time. Also, before you ask the obvious question, obviously continental drift was a lot faster in those days, and only a brainwashed scientific evilutionist would think otherwise.
I always thought that fundies quote the bible because they believe that the quotes they choose will have some shocking and shattering effect on the unbeliever, but I must admit that they never do anything with me. I don't find these quotes to be enlightening in any way, shape or form, and quite often I find them irrelevant.
Has anyone else experienced this, or am I just emotionally vacant when it comes to biblical "truth"?
Exploring truth will inevitably expose lies and massive fraud.
Except that we have evidence for all of our claims and you have a 3000-year-old myth for yours. Guess which one holds up under close scrutiny?
By the way, check this guy's site. There is some serious fail on that page. This guy believes in a geocentric universe as well.
These theories include Plate Tectonics and the Big Bang.
What do Plate Tectonics and the Big Bang theory have to do with evolution? I understand so many fundies get the Big Bang theory confused with evolution because they're both rivals of biblical creationism, but how does Plate Tectonics fit into that?
When these concepts come tumbling down upon proven to be false, many will be left bumfuzzled as to why these ideas were even taught in the first place.
I agree totally. Oh wait, you weren't talking about creationism, weren't you?
Therefore we have a defense mechanism that goes up when our engrained “learning” is challenged.
It's called sticking your fingers in your ears and saying, "La la la la la I can't hear you!"
Exploring truth will inevitably expose lies and massive fraud.
Again, I agree with you 100%. Oh wait, you weren't talking about religion here, were you?
Exploring truth will inevitably expose lies and massive fraud.
Yup. That's what scientists did and they found that the lies in the Bible crumbled like two week old bread hit by a sledgehammer. They found out that no, baby goats don't change patterns when their parents fuck in front of rods of the desired pattern. They found out that no, rabbits do not chew their cud. They found out that no, the Earth is not the center of the universe or even of the solar system. They found out that no, the Earth is not 6000 years old, Jesus did not ride around on a triceratops, and t-rexes never ate salads. That you deny what humanity's quest for truth has found just because it doesn't fit with your favorite bed time story shows that your statement here is ironic at best and a hypocritical lie at worst.
It's easy to fit a square peg in a round hole. The hole just needs to be big enough.
The rest is so standard, it's hardly worth commenting.
I just want to say this:
Yes, we should explore Evolution. Hundreds of scientists are doing it ever day, tens of thousands have done it. So far, they've found it to be a very good aproximation of reality (the only truth there is).
"bumfuzzled"
Arse parsnips
You cannot “mix” Biblical Creation and evolutionary theories.
Yes, you cannot mix them. And I want to mention that your biblical creation "theories" (they are all utterly wrong) are also subject to the Principle of Evolution. (cultural evolution in this case)

kudou Shinichi says: ONLY ONE TRUTH.
However, that doesn't mean you are automatically presented with a set of options for 'the truth' and you have to select one whole, complete, and unmodified, even if his cases frequently work out that way because the mystery genre hath its conventions
Huh. What's the Abrupt Appearance Theory? Nice chart.
Square peg round hole--even if it fits, not likely to be very secure. But a round screw into a smaller square hole works out great.
You know, the Big Bang is not an evolutionary theory. Plate tectonics is not an evolutionary theory. The theory of evolution is a part of biology. The Big Bang is cosmology. Plate tectonics is geology. These are all completely different fields of study.*
And yeah, mixing creationism with the theory of evolution doesn't work. Bravo, a creationist said something correct! Give him a round of applause! You can try to mix them, but when you do, what you have is diluted scripture that loses the historical context and intent of the original authors and slightly more scientific seeming beliefs that aren't actually scientific at all. For the sake of both science and scripture, mixing in creationism with the theory of evolution is a bad idea. Mixing creationism with science in general is a bad idea.
The Big Bang theory was originally proposed by Georges Lemaître. Georges Lemaître was a Christian. Not only was he a Christian, but he was a Catholic priest. The Catholic Church even endorsed the Big Bang theory as evidence of God because it showed that the universe as we know it had a beginning. The Pope would have been happy to make the Big Bang a part of the church doctrine. And you know what Georges Lemaître did? He told the Pope that this was wrong. Because he didn't think that science and religion should be mixed.
@Anon2:
That chart was brilliant. A phylogeny tracing the evolution of creationism.** I'm definitely going to use that in the future.
*I suppose in all fairness, you do get some overlap between geology and biology when it comes to something like paleontology. And the theory of evolution is pretty important when it comes to paleontology. But as this moron was talking about plate tectonics, not paleontology, my point still stands.
**This statement was brought to you by the Department of Redundancy Department.
I nominate this post for this month's unintentional irony award.
When do you expect these concepts to "come tumbling down?" Before or after the Second Coming?
You fit a square peg into a round hole the same way you convert pagans - use force.
Exploring Biblical truth will inevitably expose lies and massive fraud. - Fixed.
> Yet when faced with answering THE central question everyone must come to terms with, our origins,
I still don't know why this is THE central question everyone must come to terms with.
Seriously, please explain it. Why is it that, you know, most of the religions are concerned about practical ethics and guidelines for good life... except fundamentalism, which seems to be concerned about, well, bronze-age ceremonies where people tell how awesome the creator god was, as if saying that helps anything.
"Either one is true, and the other is false, period."
False dichotomy. Even if all these scientific theories turned out to be wrong (not likely), it still wouldn't prove your creation story true by default.
I've started to check out Bible verses I'm not familiar with, this, like most have little relation to the point and even less in context.
Stop hopping around the Bible for vauge phrases that aren't pertinent to the body. It's the fail point of all fundamentalism or literal meaning. No phrase you pick out works for your argument in context.
Here's the thing : If it means shit it should mean it remotely at least. Fundamentalists hop all over your Bible for sound bites and pretend this little phrases have insight that the body proves not to exist.
It's why Fox News is somewhat successful, it's evangelistic news tactics (read: not news) It's alterled facts, pieces of offside comments, invalid, not vetted, unsubstatiated or verified.
Bullshit
"You cannot 'mix' Biblical Creation and evolutionary theories. They are like oil and water."
So close. So close . Why is it that these guys always retreat back into their shell of ignorance at the last minute?
Seriously, if only you fundies could learn to stop begging the question, all our lives would be much improved.
On one hand we have scientific observation, facts, evidence and logic...on the other we have myth, mistranslated made up impossible stories...hmm, which one to follow...
An important part of "doing science" is observation. If we can repeat the same observations over and over, objectively, then we begin to form an understanding of the truth of a hypothesis. Alfred Wegener observed that some continents appear to have jigsaw like mirror image margins. He proposed a theory of continental drift. Due to the limitations of technology and the specifics of his hypothsis, few accepted it. But over the next few decades, more observations were made. We eventually were able to see an actual plate margin. We were able to see crustal processes in action. We were able to measure the divergent and convergent rates of motion at these margins. And we ultimately saw the truth at the heart of Wegener's hypothesis. That's how we do science. Not by accepting an unsubstantiated passage in an old book, not by accepting a ground-breaking (with hindsight) hypothesis that is not fully supported by evidence, but by methodically working to understand the actual things we can see and measure and building around that framework. Get an education Masters, your stupid is showing.
There are no orthodox Evolutionary theories. ToE is evolving and developing all the time.
Plate tectonincs are not Biology, nor is the Big Bang.
Origins is not Evolution, but Abiogenesis.
If the hole is big and the peg is small, you can put a round peg in a square hole, and vice versa.
You do mean creation is being proven false and it's adherent getting bomfuzzled and put up defense mechanisms, right?
It looks like you are experiencing exactly that, actually.
Ok, how many snakes have you seen who speak?, or people living for 900 years, for that matter?. Ouch.
Right, then. Let's go by the facts and the evidence, which support evolution, and discount the biblical account of creation.
Confused?
