Quote# 81070

Such a tragic revelation should give any parent who is concerned about the eternal destiny of their children great concern. May God grant us grace and diligence to be wiser and better equipped in regard to what we allow our children to be subjected to in popular culture. There is no doubt that Hollywood is transforming many once innocent children into narcissistic, demon worshipping, wand wielding, neo-pagans, who have been led to believe that they can be little gods who can manipulate the forces of the universe like Harry Potter.

That's right. Kids shouldn't think that they can be little gods who can manipulate the forces of the universe like Harry Potter. Let's pray about this, for the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much (James 5:16).

My Pagan friends believe in kindness to living things and that harming others is wrong.

Replace Harry Potter with Christianity. Enjoy.

Mister Spak

How is being a fundie better than being a narcissistic, demon worshipping, wand wielding, neo-pagans, who have been led to believe that they can be little gods who can manipulate the forces of the universe like Harry Potter.

"Well, there's sticks all freakin' over Narnia, and they're called swords, and those kids STAB people with them!"

And Super Mario Bros. teaches children to jump on turtles and Sonic the Hedgehog teaches them to run naked at the speed of sound and collect hundreds of rings (err, somehow). I'm pretty sure Harry Potter is meant entirely as fiction and that most people over the age of 5 understand that. Of course, that'll probably go over the head of a fundie that takes everything literally.

actually alot of christians have gotten pissy about the narnia series. Not the latest movies, but they've definately gotten angry over the books for portraying magic, girls using weapons, witches, fairy tale creatures, talking animals, and other gods from other ancient cultures.

not to mention they would say the metaphors in the Narnia series would lead children into a corrupted paganistic version of Christianity.

----

Anywho... if you Christians believe in the bible, shouldn't you know that God says all magic is false and inferior to his miracles and such? why are you worried about imaginary wand waving.

Such a tragic revelation should give any parent who is concerned about the rationality of their children great concern. May reason grant us grace and diligence to be wiser and better equipped in regard to what we allow our children to be subjected to in popular culture. There is no doubt that Christianity is transforming many once innocent children into narcissistic, worshipping, hand folding, neo-pagans, who have been led to believe that they can be little gods who can manipulate the forces of the universe like Harry Potter.

Narcissistic? Ever hear of televangelists?

You know that when children grow up they learn to distinguish reality from fantasy and fiction, a skill you clearly never picked up.

Proof of the power of magic. Usama ibn Laden is dead and harry Potter lives, OK!

5/5/2011 6:02:00 AM

Doubting Thomas

No, because kids are smart enough to know that Harry Potter is fiction, and that magic doesn't really exist. So when they're on the playground playing Harry Potter, they actually know it's just make-believe.

Fundie Christians, on the other hand...

I've never read a Harry Potter book or seen a movie. And I watch much less TV and movies than most Americans. And I'm not into demon worshipping or paganism.
However, women I date say I'm quite good at wielding my wand.

You mean like Christians & prayer?

That's right. Harry Potter turned me Pagan. It had nothing to do with my disgust and distrust for a religion that has a blood soaked past it refuses to even own up to.

There is no doubt that Hollywood is transforming many once innocent children into narcissistic, demon worshipping, wand wielding, neo-pagans, who have been led to believe that they can be little gods who can manipulate the forces of the universe like Harry Potter.

You mean like the way churches have transformed adults into judgmental, self-righteous, holier-than-thou, pecksniffing fundies who have been led to believe they can call on God to manipulate the forces of the universe like Harry Potter?

Allegory for Jesus

Narcissistic: Maybe. But that's not Hollywood's fault.
Demon worshipping: Yeah, I always thought that Yahweh was a giant demon in disguise. It explains a lot.
Wand wielding: No. Not unless they're cosplaying. You can get a different impression from going to church, but Americans aren't THAT naive.
Neo-pagans: Pagans are one of the many "Other" religions that make up roughly 1% of the U.S. population currently. Serious business.

Rather ironic the name of your herd. "Good Fight" Ministries, and you totally miss the point of the HP books... good overcoming evil, friends helping each other.

Fundies Make Me Sick

If you have that little faith in parents to teach their kids to be able to discern between fact and fantasy, that says more about child-rearing in this country than Hollywood or Harry Potter. It's fiction, meaning not real. Most kids and parents understand that. You're just paranoid and don't like that kids have interests outside the Bible. Get over it.

Harry Potter is a Christian allegory of the fight between good and evil.
If you think Harry Potter is so evil, Joey, do you side with Lord Voldemort?

I predict a big bump in Harry Potter sales in about 17 years, as all the kids who were raised hearing how evil it was finally are free to discover the pleasures of this amusing series.

Wow, this guy knows nothing about neopagans OR Harry Potter. Sinister "Hollywood is corrupting our kids!" conspiracy bullshit as usual.

He's right! Merely by watching the HP series, I knew how to work magic and manipulate the forces of the universe! Also, I was a neopagan and yet somehow I was a devil worshiper at the same time... wait.. that seems strange.
Oh yeah, that's because it was all just a dream I had.. never mind.
