[re: 'Christian' being a secularized term]

Right. I don't even think early Christians called themselves "Christian". Most church names (e.g., "Church of Christ") don't use that term either. It's a diluted term preferred more by atheists.

Ditto for the secularization of the term "flood", which is obviously reminiscent of the Great Flood. "Flood-waters" is a particularly silly secularization - does anyone think it might be anything other than water in natural disasters?

Um, Andy, you do realize that even if your supposed great flood did happen, there were still local floods in most areas before it right?

5/10/2011 8:22:30 AM

He's trying to argue that the term "Christian" is secular?

Wtf??????

Is it mean-spirited to find amusement in watching a man's gradual descent into utter lunacy?

Yes! Everyone stop using the word "flood" to describe anything other than Noah's flood! People are ceasing to associate it exclusively with that! It's a disaster!

Andy is fun. I hope Coservapedia never goes down like Free Conservatives will. F.C. is going to shut down soon(I think).

It's quite enjoyable observing deluded nitwits having to cope with the dreaded language problem. All hail the mighty languages of the world with their awesome ability to communicate ideas which may be contrary to those ideas that enthrall a deluded nitwit. A nitwit's delusion which may well have been couched in the first instance in the nitwits very own language. Oh, the dilemma! What to do? What to do? How can we make words mean whatever we want them to mean whenever it's convenient for us to do so?

GigaGuess

Okay, so what DO Christians call themselves? And likewise, what SHOULD we be calling the even where water rises suddenly and unexpectedly? I mean, so you could keep your precious religious meanings. And does this mean that all words mentioned in the Bible are now sacred, and unfit for the filthy mouths of us unbelievers?

@Raised by Horses, I find it better entertainment than anything on commercial television. If I was majoring in psychology, I'd get a great paper out of Andy's psychoses.

Christianity, claiming ownership of concepts far older than itself as well as newer ones invented by those filthy heathens for the past 2000 years.

Then redefining them.
Then re-redefining them.
Then accusing others of redefining them.
Then telling everyone else it's too deep for them to understand.

Flood has always been secular.

@RaidedbyHorses

You're right. I think he's going insane. And he appears to be getting worse.

And don't worry about enjoying it. If you're a sadist, then I'm a sick, twisted human being! :D

If I knew Andy IRL, I'd be telling him his increasing paranoia and delusions were a good sign that he needs to seek help.

I agree completely. Likewise, the term "raving dipshit" has become too secularized. It should only be applied to the holy Andy Assfly.

I don't even think early Christians called themselves "Christian".

Probably not but I'm also sure that teabaggers didn't call themselves "The Tea Party" until fairly recently while still holding the same beliefs. Having a label come later doesn't mean it's wrong.

Most church names (e.g., "Church of Christ") don't use that term either.

That's because they worship Christ, not Christians you putz.

It's a diluted term preferred more by atheists.

Actually I prefer the term "Deluded Supernaturalist Worshipers of Zombie Jesus".

Ditto for the secularization of the term "flood", which is obviously reminiscent of the Great Flood.

Right, because no smaller scale floods have ever existed for the entirety of Earth's history. Nope, there was only one flood ever.

"Flood-waters" is a particularly silly secularization

Flood-waters is a descriptor of the type of waters meaning they come from a flood as opposed to other sources. It's a term describing the waters rather than than the flood itself. The words aren't even equivalent so how can they be counterparts to each other?

does anyone think it might be anything other than water in natural disasters?

Earthquakes, dust devils (Oh noes, I said devils!), landslides, and volcanic eruptions. None of these have water as an essential component. Hell, if one is being generous in the use of the term "flood" it doesn't even necessarily have to involve water either as people can say that, for example, the streets are flooded with garbage or Conservapedia is flooded with bullshit.

Fundie Word Redefinition Project.
I have to wonder if Andy thinks the only religion that has ever existed is Christianity? What a moron.
That goes double for flood. Normal people don't think of a mythical biblical flood whenever they hear the word. Only morons like Andy.
