[Re. Muslim Americans]

The men with the hats and the nightshirts and the women with the burqas wear these clothes as a sign of being part of an Islamic separatist movement.

They are not here to be American. They are here to destroy America.

To me, that garb is the same to Black Americans as the sheets the KKK wears.

I think most Freepers think the KKK is a good thing, knucklehead.

Mister Spak

You freepers are not American. You are here to destroy America.

5/25/2011 5:19:31 AM

...wear these clothes as a sign of being part of an Islamic separatist movement. They are not here to be American.

So when did individuality stop being an American trait?! Also, I'm pretty sure there are no laws on how a person dresses (though some of the fashion abominations at Walmart could justify such restrictions!) or for what purpose, just as long as they are clothed in public so as not to create a nuisance.

(Edit: Yes, there is the Georgia law banning low-hanging shorts such that the boxers underneath are exposed.)

5/25/2011 5:35:04 AM

Oh fuck off. Just... fuck off.

Not even Muslim women wear full-on burqas in the enlightened countries in the world. (And since the Arab Spring appears to have come to naught, I think we can still say that the Middle East is the opposite of enlightened and that those people are hopeless; there will never be a democracy in the Middle East ever.) And it's only the really conservative Muslims who wear that stuff; you have probably come across a Muslim and didn't know it because he or she had assimilated enough to wear Western-style clothing.

Doubting Thomas

as the sheets the KKK wears.

Which, I'm willing to bet, if you don't have hanging in your closet, you know someone who does.

I have a kufi (a prayer hat that's larger than the Jewish counterpart), I'm white and don't have a beard. And guess what?

I'm a...Muslim!!!!

And I'm really, really liberal.

I keep seeing them in America. But then America is full of crazed fundies.

5/25/2011 7:26:29 AM

The men with the hats...

You mean these guys:

5/25/2011 7:57:13 AM

I see very few full burqas here in Canada, but the majority of muslim women wear the hijab. They wear them as part of their religion, not some plot to overthrow your country. They wear them in any country they are in. You have delusions of 'the United States is the only and most important country in the world' it seems.

5/25/2011 8:44:02 AM

What's wrong with a Burqa now? It's the most modest attire I can think of!

5/25/2011 8:46:34 AM

So... Muslims aren't allowed to wear what they want?

@Brendan Rizzo

I think there is still hope for the Arab Spring. It worked in Egypt. It's only a matter of time... I hope.

Yeah, just like all of those Irish people that dress in green and celebrate St. Patrick's Day are part of an anti-American separatist movement or those Japanese folks that wear kimonos are here to destroy America or all of those ethnic restaurants are really a secret base of operations where all of those foreigners are plotting our demise. Or, and I know this may sound crazy, people simply want to retain parts of their native/ancestral culture while living in the US.

5/25/2011 11:08:15 AM

Old Viking

A few admit that they wear these things so they won't be bare-ass naked in public.

5/25/2011 1:10:23 PM

Yeah, cause it's not like America is a self-described melting pot or anyting... oh wait.

5/25/2011 1:13:13 PM

What about the Muslims who don't dress in tranditional garb?

5/25/2011 2:35:56 PM

heheh yeah those men with hats are evil anti-americans

not like the Men Without Hats

5/25/2011 3:32:29 PM

I dunno, the Safety Dance sounds pretty anti-America. After all, Canadians wrote it.

5/25/2011 3:40:51 PM

You Freepers are actually very anti-American.

5/25/2011 3:46:19 PM

Not all Muslims wear the same clothes, and as far as I know very few Muslims in America wear the extremely conservative clothes most people identify with Islam.
The Islamic "garb" is not like the clothes the KKK uses. For one, the hoods are specifically worn to hide their identities. (It was harder for them to be arrested for illegal lynchings when no one could identify their face). Their clothing was also somewhat intended to terrify people (terror being the key component of terrorism).

Also i doubt that Muslims are comparable to the KKK given that many black people identify with Islam.

@ Mister Spak:

I said "full-on burqa", that is, one cannot even see the wearer's face. You may have confused that for a headscarf or something... and I have seen a lot of Muslim women wearing those. Then again, your comments imply that you are more familiar with Islam than I am, so who knows?

@ Skatepunk:

Not to be excessively cynical, but if the Arab Spring worked then there wouldn't be dictatorships in that part of the world anymore. And as for Egypt, well, they still haven't had elections there despite the fact that at the start of the whole thing they said they would have them this month! It is obvious that the military is just going to wind up taking over that country. I call 'em as I sees 'em. I knew that those uprisings were too good to be true. DAMN YOU, HUMANITY! DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!

Liberal Christian

I'm sure you must have some evidence to prove that all Muslims are out to destroy America, otherwise you wouldn't make such a ridiculous claim. Let's see it.
