Quote# 81469

[ You’ve gone on record stating that President Barack Obama’s policy initiatives are bringing us closer to the apocalypse.]

I don’t think I’ve said that. But the fact is, he’s a committed socialist. He was educated by a socialist, he thinks like a socialist, and he surrounds himself with socialist, ultra, ultra-liberal thinkers. The problem with socialism is, not only do they not believe in God or accountability to him…

[ …You don’t think President Obama believes in God?]

I’m talking about socialism. He is a committed socialist. They’re wrong in believing in the perfectibility of man—that man is very good. That’s one of the cardinal mistakes that socialists make. The Bible says that man’s heart is desperately wicked, and he needs salvation. He needs a new heart put in him by spiritual force in calling for the name of the Lord. One thing you have to distinguish is those who claim they’re Christians, but who’ve never had an experience with Jesus. They’re usually people that hardly ever go to church, hardly ever read the Bible, but rather than be atheists or nothing, they say they’re a Christian. Well, that doesn’t make you a Christian.

[ Isn’t Barack Obama a Christian?]

I challenge you: Name one Christian who he’s appointed to public office.

[ Hillary Clinton.]

You’ve got to be kidding me. She’s a socialist. She is ultra, ultra liberal. And besides, have you ever heard of as many communists or socialists that have been appointed as tsars in our country? There are 134 of them and they’ve been appointed by this man who you claim is a Christian.

Barack Obama is a socialist the same way Generalissimo Franco was a socialist!

Barack Obama is a socialist the same way Ronald Reagan was a socialist!

Barack Obama is a moderate conservative.

USA do not have any socialist parties in power nor does the system ever allow for it as it is a system designed to maintain status quo changing between dumb and dumber. It's a retarded political system

Headache: I don't suppose you have a diagnosis for when the problem first came into being? I'd like to think that at the very least, the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution, when first evoked, were at least TRYING to be an improvement for the masses compared to how George III's Parliament was doing it...

@ Headache

Matt Taibbi has pretty much summed up the American Congress as a system designed to sustain the current corporation-dominated status quo. He described it in graphic detail in his books Smells Like Dead Elephants and Griftopia.

And one other thing, the most infuriating element of LaHaye's so-called "Christianity" is that it believes humans are utterly, totally evil, that they are so fucking vile and perverse that they are incapable of being good unless that human chants the Magic Jesus Prayer, which causes God to magically transform the one praying into a Good Person.

This is the foundation of his bigotry against non-Christians. If you're not an Evangelical Fundamentalist, you're simply an evil monster pretending to be good.

5/25/2011 8:27:07 AM

A world in which any - ANY - American politician could be described as ultra liberal is a fucking scary world indeed.

>Socialist?

>Sound like another case for Inigo Montoya!

"You keep using that word and I do not think it means what you think it means!"

YES OF COURSE. Tim Lahaye: As a Socialist, may I just laugh at you and then advise you to read a book, visit Canada, and then go jump in a volcano. :)

Dearie, Liberals are right-wing, Socialists are left-wing.

Who says Socialists think man is perfect? They say that you should give people the benefit of a doubt, believe people are good until it's proven wrong.
But who doesn't? Most decent folks think like that.

As a citizen in a fairly Socialist nation; No, Hillary Clinton is NOT a Socialist, she's definitely right-wing. And, as you say, she's a Liberal.
Our Liberals are sometimes to the right of our Conservatives. They kinda fight for the Most Right Wing Position.

You have tsars in the US? Isn't it spelled "czars" in English?

Edit. @Whitleylad, I got an error when I wrote it like Tsar, but no error when I wrote it as Czar.
There was something more I wanted to add. What could it have been?
Oh well, I guess I remember it in a few hours, while I'm asleep...

5/25/2011 9:12:01 AM

Whitleylad

@Swede it's spelt both ways.

Well, well, well. Another "No True Christian" fallacy.

My grandmother may have solved the riddle. When she said "no true christian would be so hateful", I asked her "what exactly IS a True Christian?" She said a True Christian follows Christ first and the bible second, and believes in love and forgiveness, like Christ.

It actually made sense. This guy, on the other hand, says anyone he doesn't like is "not a christian."

Wut?

I thought you guys hated socialism because it implies that people can't look after themselves and need 'Big Government' to take care of them.

Now you're saying that socialism makes people think too highly of themselves!

If Hillary Clinton is ultra, ultra liberal to you I'd hate to see what your definition of an ultra-conservative is. I'm thinking it's in the realm of Mussolini.

[Isn’t Barack Obama a Christian?]

I challenge you: Name one Christian who he’s appointed to public office.

What does that have to do with being Christian? I don't remember any of the commandments from the Bible being "Thou shalt only appoint Christian advisers".

@Swede

"Dearie, Liberals are right-wing, Socialists are left-wing."

You seem to be unfamiliar with U.S. politics.

Ronald Reagan was a moderate. Anything to the right of that is a conservative. Anything to the left of that is obviously an extremist atheist muslim nazi liberal marxist socialist communist.

Look only because someone isn't a mass murdering fascist who only thinks of sweet wars and the end of the word doesn’t mean he must be evil and anti christian.

This the most evil doctrine of christianity. It leads directly to the Inquisition. If unbelievers are horrible people, why not burn them at the stake?

reflecting......

the early colonists of the USA were socialist in their behaviour: helping each other, contributing what they could to those in the community in need, labouring to help each other (fine tradition of "barn raising" anyone), doctor giving care for free if necessary, school by public subscription...

Somewhere such COMMUNITY spirit became anathema as it became a national need.

USA, youi've truly lost your roots

[I’m talking about socialism. He is a committed socialist. ]

You didn't answer the question.

[Name one Christian who he’s appointed to public office.]

Joe Biden (VP)
Kathleen Sebelius (Secretary of Health and Human Services)
Ray LaHood (Secretary of Transportation)
Bill Daley (cheif of staff)

[You’ve got to be kidding me. She’s a socialist. ]

So was Jesus.

Speaking as an American....

We have it pounded into us from a very young age that socialisim = brown shirt comunisim. Which, in this Americans opinion, is a bit odd.

Take into consideration, for the moment, how some of the funcions of our society work.

Our roads are paid for by government agencies.

Our schools are funded by state, and federal governemnt.

Libraries are funded by local, state, and federal goverment.

State parks are funded by local, and state goverments.

Police departments are funded by local, state, and sometimes federal goverment.

Same goes for fire departments.

and so on, and so on, and so on...

I think about all these things and I say to myself....

Boy, for a country that has a stick up its ass about socialisim, we sure do practice a lot of it.

@ Swede:

All right, who came up with this bullshit that liberalism is right-wing? Is that why you Europeans claim that there are no left-wing politicians in the United States? Really? You're reduced to redefining the political spectrum to make Americans look bad now? I'd like to punch whoever came up with that in the face, just as I'd like to punch whoever came up with the lie that the Nazis were left-wing.

After all, I don't think that the Karl Marx whom you Euros so worship* was born until well after the political spectrum was created. But between redefining the political spectrum based on this guy's writings, to trying to absolve Lenin of the crimes of communism despite the fact that he created the system like that on purpose (I'm looking at you, Fawful says that God has a vagina on the top of his penis), to doing exactly what the conservatives do and conflating socialism with communism (and then hypocritically getting angry when they do it) despite knowing that that will make Americans none too keen to embrace socialism, to insulting all Americans by claiming that they are unaware the Cold War is over (looking at you, Dr. Razark) and talking positively about the People's Republic of China (looking at you Anon-e-moose), I'm beginning to think that this board is infested with Marxists. Look, people, I have nothing against such things as universal healthcare and corporations not having all the power they do, but news flash, Marx did not know everything! It annoys me when people bring him up in discussions of economics considering that there were things he didn't know about economics. Not to say that he's completely irrelevant, but constantly defending him makes you look like an asshole. And Dr. Razark, I know you did not intend this, but when you make blanket statements like that, you insult me. If you want to criticize the South or Middle America feel free, but please specify that and don't insinuate that the entire country is like that! I am sick of putting up with this crap! You people are just making it worse!

I know you all are likely going to claim that my view of the political spectrum is an outdated or uneducated Americanism, to which I reply, that just as the number 1*10^9 is called a billion, not a thousand million, and as the word "color" has no "u" in it, I am right and you are wrong because I am an American. We INVENTED modern democracy**, despite you not wanting to admit it. I've heard that some of you even claim that it was the French Revolution that inspired liberalism in Europe, and that the American Revolution meant nothing. Can't you SEE how ignorant and xenophobic that is? You are supposed to love us! Without us, you would still be toiling under the yoke of your feudal masters! SHOW SOME GODDAMNED RESPECT!

Sorry to have gone off topic.

* I am using the word "worship" figuratively here, so don't misrepresent me or claim that I'm as ignorant as these fundies. I know full well that Marxism is not a religion and that Europe isn't a godless commie hellhole.

** Don't even think of mentioning the Greeks and Romans here. Sure "democracy" is a Greek word, and "republic" is a Latin one, but if you looked at those so-called "democracies", you'd notice that only the super-rich had any sorts of rights or say in things, and this never changed. TRUE democracy (associated with a higher standard of living) began with the United States. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Sorry Tim, I don't need no stinkin' salvation since I've done nothing wrong. In fact, since the whole "rib-woman getting duped by snake into eating forbidden fruit and feeding to mud-hubby" is really nothing but a load of Bronze Age bollocks, no one really needs salvation. That was all made up by the nascent Church. You know, the Catholic church, the one all the others spawned from, even yours?
As for socialism, you guys have never had it your country, not even under Roosevelt so certainly not under Obama. Not even close.

If he appears to be standing to the far left to you, it's only because you're standing way too far to the right. To the rest of us he just looks like a straight-up centrist.
And socialism is not necessarily atheist. Ever heard of a thing called Christian socialism? By all means critique socialism, but don't give us this biblical nonsense to justify your point.
And don't try and tell us that you get to decide who's a Christian and who isn't because you wrote some silly books about the end of the world.
@Brendan Rizzo: relax. No one's seriously disputing the importance of the American Revolution. And anyone who's well-informed knows that Marx was wrong about a lot of things. But you're wrong about one thing. "Colour" definitely has a "U" in it.
