African and Hindu historians estimate that due to Muslim invasions, occupations, forced conversions, and institutional slavery the death toll in India was about 80 million over a five hundred year period and in Africa about 110 million over about 1,000 years. European historians estimate that due to religious wars, genocides of heretics etc, and systemitized slavery the death toll in Europe approached 100 million in about 1,000 years. If you add in the deaths from disease, caused in large part by Catholicism's antithetical hostility to scientific knowledge, that would probably add another 100 in the same millenium.
The approximate deaths of another 70 million in WWI and WWII in Europe is the tailend of Christian endeavour to slaughter non-believers, and in the Pacific, the divine personage of Hirohito presided over the deaths of another 15 million and the enslavment of millions more.
In the 20th Century your only significant "atheistic totalitarian regimes" were Red China, and the USSR that lost 35 millions of its people to the righteous Christian Nazis. Nationalist China (an essentially Confucian society, therefore atheist) lost millions of its people to the God-driven minions of the Japanese militarists.
Today in the 21st Century, about 95% of all wars, killing, and genocides involve Muslims against Christians and Polytheists, and Muslims against other Muslims.
If you have the time, further reading and research will find many other millions of deaths directly caused by religion.
I could have gone on and on, but what's the point? It is obvious that using only the body count, that religion is the worst thing that's ever happened to the human race.

Pulling numbers out of the ass, are we?

If your god was actually real, I would chop its fucking head off with a sword.

@Percy Q. Shunn
I'm a fucking *CHRISTIAN* and I would do that. The prospect of the Fundie "God" in control of the universe is more frightening than the prospect of no one being in control of the universe. By a lot.

I think he accidently,a chairman.

Were there even 2 billion people on earth before Jesus?

Even if their was a higher level of religiously motivated killings before Jesus, there is still the fact that the population of the earth after his time was much larger then the population of the earth before his time.
The statistical implications of the two sample sizes say that your claim is bullshit.

2.5 million dead in 200 years, and he still promises more!
What a guy!

78.4% of statistics are made up. I think the above is a case in point

[Then Look at the world with Jesus and count again.]
Yeah, the death toll would be higher.
5/30/2011 9:15:54 AM
He probably got the 2 billion number from all the people dying in the Flood. I think....I don't really know what the fuck to make of this post. The rest is even more batshit insane.
5/30/2011 9:19:54 PM
You got those 2 numbers backwards.
5/31/2011 5:09:24 AM
Just two examples:
Black Death, between 75 and 100 million people died.
1918 flu pandemic, between 50 and 100 million people died.
Doesn't god have something to do with diseases?
5/31/2011 6:21:09 AM
I know. It's like the barbarism before Jesus blanketed the world, kind of like a worldwide flood, killing all but a select few, ending with a sign of temporary peace until that fateful day when global vengeance will be much more gruesomely fulfilled and blood will rise to the ankles.
Such pagan horror!
5/31/2011 6:28:49 AM
first your Jesus is a myth built from other myths seconds in the time he's supposed to have existed humanity had already been alive for long enough to have had a population of over 3 millions, unless pre-jesus people were immortal (defeating your point) they would have been dead by the time Jesus' alleged age came, and as is it is proven few would have reached old age... it has been with science that jsut recently longevity has become something we can easily expect to the point we underrate it unlike people in the past that overrate it.

It rounds out to 1250/year by my math. While every death is a tragedy to those who knew the desceased, 1250 worldwide is just a blip on the total number of deaths caused by war (many religious), disease (malaria, tuburculosis...), accidents, and others.
What's a fundie's last words?
"Hey y'all, watch this!"
5/31/2011 5:52:01 PM
I like how so many here are missing the point... he's saying that only 2 1/2 million have died due to FALSE BELIEFS, not that only 2 1/2 million have died.
Of course, that just means he thinks all the shit that has gone down in that last 2k years (crusades et al) is due to correct beliefs... so he is explicitly accepting that Christianity is a bloodthirsty cult.
He then turns around and states that these correct beliefs can't be a religion, because belief in Jesus deters people from killing in the name of religion... despite already admitting that all those deaths are due to belief in Jesus.
Yeah, the guy's an idiot...

He Who Doubts
Nobody would have to settle for a 'mere' 2,500,000 dead bodies in 2000 years if Jesus were anything like the omnipotent loving Lord you say he is; Jesus would be able to simply stop all religiously inspired death period. So no I'm not at all impressed with this shit. Given the option between calling 2.5 million corpses a failure or ONE HELL OF A SUCCESS, I'll choose to adopt perspective C: a sorrowfully embarrassing bullshit failure.
I'd like to point out that people on the overall excel at killing each other, and this is no less true of secularists; North Korea has an official religious stance of atheism, and they kill dozens of South Koren sailors every now and then with a naval boat sinking. Regardless, globally adopted secularism could never be a religious cause of mass death, making the reality of such a world-view the solution to the problem.
