Del. Robert G. Marshall, R-Prince William, is asking the Richmond Federal Reserve Bank to remove the rainbow flag flying below the American flag outside of the building, calling its presence “a serious deficiency of judgment by your organization, one not limited to social issues.”

In a letter to Richmond Fed President Jeffrey M. Lacker, Marshall says the homosexual behavior “celebrated” by the bank “undermines the American economy” and is a class six felony in Virginia.

“The Richmond Fed’s endorsement of costly, anti-social, immoral behavior is rejected by 6,000 years of Western Religious and moral teaching,” writes Marshall, who is among the General Assembly’s most conservative members and has long been outspoken on gay-rights issues.

And the fed would bring in more money from gay marriages than they would without them.

Shut the fuck up, Marshall. The FRB can do whatever the hell they want to promote diversity. Besides, I'd bet anything that you scream bloody murder whenever some public area takes down Christian symbols.

So, what is it that is a felony, exactly?

"6,000 years of Western Religious and moral teaching"

You mean the western religious teaching of the native Americans? The Western culture isn't 6,000 years old. Besides that, your Bible comes from a Middle Eastern culture from just over 2,000 years ago.

I think Marshall has come to the right conclusion for the wrong reasons. The Federal Reserve Bank is basically a federal institution (with a good deal of private business mixed in). A federal institution shouldn't show favoritism to one particular social group. I can't let the fact that homosexuals are a group that I like cloud my judgement on this. If it were a Christian flag (which, I know, is a religious group rather than a social group) or a flag celebrating a single racial group, I would want it taken down. Not out of hatred toward Christians or any particular race-- but in the name of neutrality in government.

@#1296433: I'm not exactly familiar with Virginia's legal code, but I suspect that the felony is sodomy.

I had to go look that up myself, and apparently Virginia has some outdated laws against oral sex and sodomy, hence the 'o look we have teh lawz on our side!!one' attitude. But that's ignoring this Supreme Court decision from 2003, Lawrence v. Texas. So, he's a moron, essentially.

Homosexuality is destroying the economy? If we get rid of gays, then all the rainbow flag makers will go out of business.

And sodomy may be a class six felony in Virginia, but the U.S. Supreme Court says that consensual sodomy crimes are unconstitutional.

“The Richmond Fed’s endorsement of costly, anti-social, immoral behavior is rejected by 6,000 years of Western Religious and moral teaching,”

6000 years of Western teaching? I thought you nutjobs thought the universe was created just 6000 years ago? At any rate, the U.S. didn't exist that far back and Europe was pretty much filled with pagans.

Not to thread-jack but... The Federal Reserve is as "federal" as Federal Express. In other words, it's not at all. (Thanks to Dennis Kucinich for the catch phrase.)

That's nice. Now try addressing the problems that make the rest of Northern Virginia think of Prince William County as Exhibit A of how not to run a community. (My apologies to any sane people from PWCo who read this.)

"The Richmond Fed’s endorsement of the equality of people, regardless of who they love, is rejected by 4,000 years of baseless religious prejudices and traditions”

Fixed that for ya. I suspect that the 6000 year slip might suggest that the speaker is a YEC. Whodathunk?

Also: would love to see you call at the fucking Confederate flags flying across the southern part of this country as “a serious deficiency of judgment by your organization, one not limited to social issues.” But I'm sure that will never happen.

"6,000 years of Western Religious and moral teaching.."

Six thousand years? Remind me what year it is again, by the Gregorian Calendar? Oh, that's right. 2011 A.D., as in '2011 years after the whole birth of Jesus Christ thing'.

Now, where did that whole Jesus Christ hullaballoo take place again? Hint: It wasn't in 'the West'.

"Marshall says the homosexual behavior “celebrated” by the bank “undermines the American economy” and is a class six felony in Virginia."

Well, you'd better arrest George Dumbya Bush then, Bobby-boy.

His spunking away the stable, nay balanced economy he inherited from Clinton (with a trade surplus, no less) in two unjustifiable wars, resulting in him selling his own country to China - and the deaths of thousands of infinitely more priceless American lives in said wars - would warrant no less than him being publicly tortured to death.

To my knowledge, Dumbya is married, with kids: Heterosexual.

Your call, Bob.

How does it undermine the American economy? Immoral behaviour? Like that of the Phelps clan, people beating and killing the homosexuals?

Lawrence V Texas says that it is not a felony, next, since america is not a theocratic state, western religious teachings are moot.
