Quote# 81740

Del. Robert G. Marshall, R-Prince William, is asking the Richmond Federal Reserve Bank to remove the rainbow flag flying below the American flag outside of the building, calling its presence “a serious deficiency of judgment by your organization, one not limited to social issues.”

In a letter to Richmond Fed President Jeffrey M. Lacker, Marshall says the homosexual behavior “celebrated” by the bank “undermines the American economy” and is a class six felony in Virginia.

“The Richmond Fed’s endorsement of costly, anti-social, immoral behavior is rejected by 6,000 years of Western Religious and moral teaching,” writes Marshall, who is among the General Assembly’s most conservative members and has long been outspoken on gay-rights issues.

Oh, and another thing. The Virginia "crimes against nature" law doesn't distinguish between homosexual and heterosexual acts, either by its clear language or as interpreted by the Supreme Court of Virginia. Virginia social conservatives love to leave out that fact.

Don't worry. The economy was ruined by everybody knows WHO. And not a homosexual man, by the way.

Forcing the bank to topple to one person's opinion sounds awfully "librul" to me...

The only religions that existed in the West 6000 years ago were all Pagan religions and the Greeks (widely considered to be the founders of Western society) had no problems with homosexuals. It's your Middle Eastern religion that has sand up its ass about it.

And this bullshit is one of the main reasons why the US is such a shitty country - full of morons like this one and the one in the post above this one from Moonbattery.

And a population who more or less to some degree agree with them and is too uneducated to make up their own minds based upon facts and not mythological drivel.

Even if the FRB isn't owned by the Federal Government, its association with the government's business should be enough to justify asking that they not display any kind of social or political declarations. What if the next FRB president wanted to fly an Operation Rescue flag?

@ Headache

Your idiotic broad-brush statement about a country of 350 million people shows clearly that you are far less educated than the quoted fundie.

Even though this clown is obviously an homophobic twit, it does seem inappropriate for a federal agency to fly a flag of any non-governmental organization.

Western religious and moral teaching is older than the Old Testament. You can look this up in ... uh .. the Bible. Yeah, that's it. the Bible.

[“The Richmond Fed’s endorsement of costly, anti-social, immoral behavior is rejected by 6,000 years of Western Religious and moral teaching,”]

Any fifth grader can tell you that western culture isn't six thousand years old, America wasn't an independent nation until the 18th century, and your bible was not written by King James.

Just because six-thousand years have passed since people started saying "ew, that's weird" about gay sex doesn't mean it ought to continue. You could make the same claim about pretty much every human behavior.

Hey, Marshall, you're not in Kansas anymore!

"Marshall says the homosexual behavior “celebrated” by the bank “undermines the American economy..."

1. How does being gay hurt the economy?
2. Robert, you sound just like every other right-wing politician: always demonizing some weaker segment of the population and blaming them for problems they didn't cause (in this case the ongoing economic collapse of the US). If it's not gays, it's immigrants; if it's not immigrants, it's teachers...

"... rejected by 6,000 years of Western Religious and moral teaching..."

History Fail. Your religion is nowhere near 6,000 years old. Western civilization itself isn't even that old. Also, slavery was legal for most of the past 6,000 years. Do you think slavery is OK, too?

Interesting that the people that are so against central public banking are against the right of a semi-private bank to display flags as it likes.

As for being a "class 6 felony" I really doubt Virginia has a law addressing this specific of a case.

Headache, please bash CHRISTIANS - not AMERICANS. People CHOOSE to be Christian. People do not CHOOSE to be American, unless they're immigrants.

What do gay issues have to do with the economy? If you let gay people get married, there would be more business for cake makers, dress/suit/tux shops, wedding planners/photographers...it would HELP the economy, prick.

While Americans bear no blame for what individual outliers say or do, they should not get a pass for their elected officials.

Americans elect their representatives in both state and federal governments.
The fact that Mr. Marshall has been repeated elected to represent his district since 1992 proves that either the majority of his constituents are as insane (or even more insane) than he is, or they don't believe in their own democratic system to even bother voting him out of office.

@ Veras_the_Brujah

LGBT people are minorities, there's nothing wrong with the bank flying a rainbow flag to support diversity in this way. Just as there is no controversy or hypocrisy with flying a flag in support of Black History month or a flag supporting Native American Heritage. It's not favoring certain people over another group of people because things aren't equal to begin with.

The only reason someone would really be upset over the flag is if they're a homophobe. And, in the case of this fundie, a really crazy deluded homophobe.

Yep, the guys a prick. All I can say really...

BTW some people are confusing the Richmond Fed with the Federal Reserve. I'm not sure that they are one and the same. Read the comments on the Towleroad article, the same mistake is made there.
