Proponents of "traditional marriage" say that they have no plans to encourage preachers to demonize homosexuals at the pulpit, or force schoolchildren to learn that homosexuality is a form of criminal insanity. Both of these are lies. In fact the main purpose of defining marraige in legislation is not to protect our existing rights from being manipulated and exploited (which is easily brought about by power of attorney, and even easier when your attorney is pricey.) Rather, it is precisely and mainly to give the conservative community greater legal impunity to engage in slanderous criticism now that they can no longer do so to Jews and blacks without consequences.

No, we don't.

We expect preachers to stop preaching against homosexuality themselves. Because changing attitudes by force doesn't work. They have to realise themselves that they're misguided - everyone else already has realised that. It's hard to be taken seriously if facts are against you.

Nobody can be forced to learn anything. Unfortunately, people can be fed with false information - such as that homosexuality isn't normal. Better to teach the kids the truth, because we don't want them to be faced with a reality that is completely contrary to what they've been taught.

Sorry, but we can't stop bigoted priests from babbling about what Republican Jesus hates. First Amendment, you fucktard. And criticizing someone for "forcing schoolchildren to learn" something is ridiculous coming from a creationist. Isn't "forcing schoolchildren to learn" something that isn't true the entire point of the creationist agenda? At least in the case of teaching about homosexuality, there is usually some tact and some actual evidence. Also: who fucking cares if you can get certain rights by power of attorney? Because that is a much more convoluted and expensive process than simply having the same rights through marriage.

Which, if something happens before the Power of Attorney is set up, the partner is SOL.
