Well then, in my religion God demands from me that I speed in school zones, arrive totally drunk at work every day, cheat on my taxes, fart in elevators, use Canadian coins in Coke machines, call judges "your uselessness", sound off air horns in maternity wards, and address HRH the Queen as "Mum" (as in cum) instead of "Ma'am" (as in jam).
It's all God's holy will and I have the first amendment on my side. Nobody can stop me in the US.

Yes and no. Keep in mind the cultural differences between now and then. In Joseph and Mary's time, the idea was, (as crass as it is now) "Old enough to bleed, old enough to breed." Biologically, this makes sense. You want your species to begin producing offspring as soon as possible in order to continue to propagate said species. The fact that Mary was between 12 - 14 at the time (according to apocrypha - the canon never specifies an age) is irrelevant - if she was old enough in the culture to be married and produce offspring - so be it.
Today, however, we have a different idea of how people develop psychologically, and where they should be when they decide to mate and produce offspring. Twelve to 14, in our eyes, of course, is much too young (despite biology), and therefore, is forbidden by law. (see Romans 13, and (I think) 1 Peter).
My point is, of course it's not forbidden in Mary and Joseph's time (or even, if I recall correctly, as late as Joseph Smith's time)-due to biological necessity. Today, however, it certainly is.
