Is the SPLC, by its own criteria, the real hate group? It still carries weight in plenty of circles here in America, and so when it categorizes an organization as a hate group, many people of good conscience are influenced by that designation, one which is quite stigmatizing and destructive, as evidenced by the recent events involving FOTF and AFA mentioned above. Yet it is the leaders of the SPLC who are either irresponsibly attacking other fine organizations, or worse still, knowingly defaming them. Who then deserves the title of 'hate group,' Focus on the Family or the Southern Poverty Law Center? Who has been guilty of demonizing others and spreading hurtful, inaccurate information? Whose actions and words have been hateful? The record speaks for itself.

Well, it is expected that a hate group wouldn't consider itself anything else other than fine.
When others label your organisation a hate group, and people believe them, I don't have a problem with people interpreting the actions of your (or any other) hate group as the actions of a hate group.
That's because they're hate groups.
Groups like Focus on the Family have fought tooth and nail to restigmatize and keep a certain segment of the population from obtaining civil rights all on the basis of their non-heterosexual orientation. That sounds pretty hateful to me. Does the SPLC do anything like that?
If groups like Focus on the Family become stigmatized because of their recent labeling as a hate group, then they damn well deserve it, as far as I'm concerned. If you don't like being called hateful bigots, then maybe you should stop being hateful bigots.
"Who then deserves the title of 'hate group,' Focus on the Family or the Southern Poverty Law Center? Who has been guilty of demonizing others and spreading hurtful, inaccurate information? Whose actions and words have been hateful? "
Focus on the Family of course. The record speaks for itself.
What Mister Spak said. SPLC is against hate groups, which is a good thing. Focus on the Family, on the other hand, is a hate group, which isn't a good thing.
Oh, I see. It's that "you're intolerant of my intolerance so that makes you intolerant" line of reasoning. What you don't realize is that it's okay to stigmatize organizations and people that have earned it through their actions causing harm to others. But by your logic, we could say YOU'RE part of a hate group since you just defamed and stigmatized the SPLC.

Yes, it indeed does. FOTF has tried to prevent people from getting equal rights and SPLC is simply calling them out on it. I think that immediately shows who the real hate group is.
You're spotless reasoning has made me see the error of my hateful ways.
And the KKK was just a group of nice white men looking out for the future of pure little white boys and girls. OK, sometimes they had to deny rights to the blacks and browns, and, well, lynch a nigger or two.* But they did it all out of love, not hate.
* Oh, an why don't Klan groups get them some hangings on any more? Because the SPLC fucked them out of their money, and buildings and militia compounds in court, leaving them a hollow shell of impotent rage. Yay!
I guess this was a roundabout way of saying that you, Michael Brown, are a total fucktard with the reasoning skills of a 3-year-old.
I'll let a group's actions speak for them, and judging by the actions of Focus on the Family, yeah, they're a Hate Group.

Right -- never mind the groups demanding supremacy for their own people and trashing the rights of everyone else: it's the SPLC who is being mean by disagreeing with that push for supremacy.
It's like the standard conservative line about how gay-bashing (assault, murder, rape, torture) is nowhere near as bad as "Christian-bashing" (public criticism).
Eh, well when we take a look at the emperor marching through the streets in his 'new clothes', those who agree with his oppressive policies will insist he's fashionable. The SPLC has often been like the little boy who points out that the emperor is in fact marching naked. I don't see what's hateful about that. If it quacks like a duck, it's a duck.
I'm sure the KKK and the neo-Nazi groups take your same position.
A)"Who then deserves the title of 'hate group,' Focus on the Family or the Southern Poverty Law Center?
B)Who has been guilty of demonizing others and spreading hurtful, inaccurate information?
C)Whose actions and words have been hateful? The record speaks for itself."
A) Focus on the Family
B) Focus on the Family
C) Focus on the Family
Focus on the Family is pro-family; only in so far as it fits their incredibly narrow definition of family. Any thing outside that definition do they not only want to legitimize, they want to destroy.
Single parent families? Destroy
Child-less couple families? Destroy
Same-sex couple families? Destroy
Those are all real families, unless you actually belong to Focus on the Family.
In my overall experience, if an organization has the name "Family" in it (other than the rock band Sly and the Family Stone), they generally teach things I wouldn't want my kids to think of as 'facts'.
Whose actions and words have been hateful? The record speaks for itself.
Indeed it does, and it speaks volumes about the kind of hateful garbage propagated by the sanctimonious bigots at Focus On The Family and American Family Association. You truly are a clueless fuck.
Oh for the Good Old Days, when nasty little jerkwads like this one could just scream, "Blasphemer!, or Heretic!" and an angry mob would appear, just like that! /sarcasm
Did SPLC just suddenly start attacking a fine organization that wasn't criticizing or bothering anyone? Dr. Eric Berne, the author of "Games People Play" described the game of "Now I Got You, You Son of a Bitch (NIGYYSOB)" as a game in which somebody goads another into a response, then uses the response as an excuse to attack them. Mike's just playing NIGYYSOB: using SPLC's answer to FotF's hate-filled bigoted tripe as an excuse to accuse them of being a hate group.
"Who has been guilty of demonizing others and spreading hurtful, inaccurate information? Whose actions and words have been hateful?"
Those apply very well to FOTF!

I believe even you know the answer to that one, Brown. However, I realize your sort are not ones to let facts get in the way of good propaganda.
Yup, the record certainly does.
Both FOTF and AFA consistantly, openly and, I must assume, knowingly, spread misinformation and discredited claims about gays.
SPLC simply points out that they do this.
Yup, the record speaks for itself.
Funny because Focus on the Family wasn't listed as a hate group by SPLC. AFA, Concerned Women for America, Abiding Truth Ministries, etc. were.
@aaa:
"This would work far better in RSTDT."
How is this racist? Maybe we need a Homophobes say the darndest things? Of course, then we'd have to cross-list things....
Who then deserves the title of 'hate group,'
The one that is bigoted against LGBTs, and spreading hatred as a result.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
