Did this guy just argue that anything that is taught is a religion?

Yeah, actual thinking will do that.

No, just no...
Yes - critical thinking has to be learned, no - it is not a religion, such a claim just show you are a clueless moron but then again, I've rad quite a bit of the ramblings of this imbecile so this is just par for the course...

Hey walking has to be taught to people too, and talking. Not to mention going to the toilet and eating with a knife and fork. They must all be religions too.
And Critical Thinking is just that, looking at something and thinking about it critically. Yes it might drive some people away from their religion or make it harder to brain wash some kids. But it also makes them better people able to look at what they are being told by anyone and judge it for themselves.
If your faith is so weak that just thinking about it a little bit would take it away from you then you don't really have faith at all.

I've been a sign painter for 45 years and I clean my brushes religiously!
So, ok, that's my religion, so be it.

It is a religion without a deity or dogma and it helps people learn and be better thinkers. Apparently you oppose that

If it has to be taught, it is a religion.
Things that have to be taught:
Counting
The alphabet
Languages
Automotive mechanics
Computer programming
...and so on.
Absolutely NONE of these require religious faith to work effectively.

Then almost everything is a religion -so much so that it makes "religion" meaningless.
I personally worship logic as you are implying. Dear ol heavly logic, I pray to you because I'm fucking insane and think you're an actual entity who will alter your grand cosmic logical iteration x for little ol' me and my appeal to emotion.
Tell you what -take your religion and shove it up your ass.

Learning any language, whether it be one's first language or a foreign language, requires it to be taught. [sarcasm]Clearly language is a religion.[/sarcasm]

What about mathematics, geography, chemistry or languages? all things have to be taught. The difference between them and religion is that the former are based on observable, testable reality, whereas religion is based on bullshit.
That's why teaching it to kids is considered indoctrination and the others are not.
I have to agree though, that teaching kids critical thinking will usually immunize them to religious indoctrination. That's reason enough for idiots like Self-Mutation to get pissed off.

Critical thought is religion? So the talking snake, zombie savior, four horsemen of the apocalypse, and the dead rising from the graves is attributed to critical thought? Wow, with logic like that I'm sure we can count on some more pastors employing Rentboys.

Self-Mutation is making a late play for Fundie of the Year 2011.
This is one of the great dangers of religion. It teaches that it is ok to not think and to accept a lack of understanding.
Also, in the immortal words of House, "If you could reason with religious people, there would be no religious people.

Critical thinking has to be TAUGHT to people. It is no different from religion being taught to others.
Some people have never heard of critical thinking and logic. If it has to be taught, it is a religion.
Penguins are black and white. Old TV shows are black and white. Therefore, penguins are old TV shows.
This is why Dawkins wants "critical thinking" in elementary schools. He wants to hook 'em away from God young.
I nominate this for the "Unintentional Honesty" award.

You're right it has to be taught, because on their own people are kind of shitty at critical thinking. And it's that lack of critical thinking that leads people to doing stupid stuff, like embracing religion.
