Sweden is a VERY secular society, but we still have mostly "traditional" families. Very few marry as many as three times. Most people only marry once, a few marry twice and some just live together as long as they both shall live. We certainly don't have a majority of gay marriages, and we heterosexuals (who are secure in our sexuality) don't feel our marriages threatened by more people being able to marry.
We've had registered partnership for about ten years and during most of those years we had economic growth. When people started to move towards the right, we ended up in the quickest and deepest slump since the Great Depression. Mostly thanks to banks "over there" allowed a little too much free enterprise.
Is Gingrich saying that Jew tradition started only 3000 years ago? Huh? I thought it was 6000 years...
What core values? Not to hit our slaves so hard that you kill them or maim them for life? Killing off every man, woman, child and cattle in the country we want to move into? Letting rapists buy their victim from her father? Making burnt offerings to God for anything and everything? Not eating any manner of fat, of ox, sheep or goat? Ostracizing/killing anyone who eats black pudding or prawns?
Actually, I hope those core values are threatened by the secular society...
Free people are based on freedom, gender equality and human rights, not faith. Taliban Afghanistan was brimming with faith, but there were virtually no freedom whatsoever.
There are no unalienable rights, asshole, not really. Which creator, by the way? Our parents?
And once again with the "only religious people have morals". Common decency is a survival instinct, stupid! At least it is for most people; only sociopaths need someone looking over their shoulder in order to stay law-abiding.
