Quote# 83711

I have read through the comments posted on crossroad.to, concerning anime/manga. I have to say this about most of the readers comments DEFENDING anime/manga: Do you (anime/manga fans) not realize that you are replacing life with this anime/manga hogwash? Going into excruciating detail about some FICTIONAL cartoon characters as if they were real? Don't forget, that anime/manga is directly associated with the anime/manga that portrays girls AND women as throwaway toys, only good for sex and abuse? I have seen some of the most brutal of the anime in years past, and, technically speaking, ALL anime/manga is of the same roots. You can't have one genre of anime, without realizing the extent and brutality of the others.

Anime is MAINLY for adults, evidenced by the storylines. Some anime is just plain BORING. Some is DISGUSTING. ALL of it is like watching soap operas: The gullible and reality-denying individual treating fictional characters as REAL, hence the troubling trend of little kids acting like they are gods, superheroes, wizards, and animals. Even if there WERE such a thing as CHRISTIAN anime, the roots would STILL be there. One could not perceivably "christianise" something that is inherently evil.

No matter how many of you DEFEND anime/manga, you NEED to realize that this genre of entertainment is nothing short of witchcraft, REGARDLESS of the messages/storylines presented. Anime, like other ungodly trappings in life, has been designed to rip you from the real world (God's creation), and stuff you into a state of mind that neither pleases God, nor will ever draw you closer to Him. Take it from someone who KNOWS about this topic. When you begin to blur the lines between good and evil (whether it's a little or a lot), you push yourself farther and farther into the chasm of depravity and insanity. Anime/manga is a product that is best flushed back into the cesspool from which it came.

Do you realise you are replacing life with your own pseudo-Christian bullshit?

Going into excruciating detail about some FICTIONAL cartoon characters as if they were real? Don't forget, that anime/manga is directly associated with the anime/manga that portrays girls AND women as throwaway toys, only good for sex and abuse?

By that logic, Dora the Explorer is directly associated with South Park. Both come from America, and both are animated.

No matter how many of you DEFEND anime/manga, you NEED to realize that this genre of entertainment is nothing short of witchcraft, REGARDLESS of the messages/storylines presented.

No matter how much you hate it, you NEED to realise that anime and manga are simply media.

I have seen some of the most brutal of the anime in years past, and, technically speaking, ALL anime/manga is of the same roots

Yes. Ancient Japanese art and Disney cartoons.

It took all of three seconds to Google up several examples of Christian manga.

> One could not perceivably "christianise" something that is inherently evil.

And this is why fundies should stay the hell away from pop culture criticism.

If you have a rock-solid opinion that a form of art can't be improved, then you're just trolling. Because if you hold the opinion that something can't be improved, then you gain nothing from pointing out the flaws. The only option left would be to quit criticising these "evil" things and let the evil speak for itself - because if something is irredeemably evil, people just might notice that on their own.

But as usual, fundies tend to be wrong on this. If anyone happens to stumble on, say, an anime with actual artistic merit, their point is invalid and they should perhaps reconsider it.

Oh, c'mon, moron, don't you see your own Christian butt in that statement?

Strange, this impulse to destroy anything that isn't "of God". (For "not of God" read: anything that the writer doesn't personally control.) It represents I suppose an urge to completely control other people. You can't even watch cartoons, you have to somehow be thinking about God every second of every day.

9/11/2011 7:08:06 AM

There is a difference. They do understand that manga is a piece of fiction, not to be taken literarily or as a moral guide for real life. Got the point?

9/11/2011 7:35:31 AM

Believe me, you HAVEN'T seen the most brutal anime.

Do you Iliad/Odyssey listeners not realize that you are replacing life with this saga hogwash? Going into excruciating detail about some FICTIONAL epic characters as if they were real?

Pagan things that have been "Christianized:" writing, money, architecture, agriculture

What the fucking fuck? I mean, I understand why they'd hate on anime/manga of all things, considering that a lot of popular manga/anime themes (hentai, harem, reverse harem, magical girl, girls with guns, yaoi/shounen-ai, yuri/shoujo-ai, shotacon, lolicon) and many elements and ideas of the more popular ones (demons, reincarnation, inanimate objects having "souls" — i.e. Beyblade, Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, etc. — violence/gore, nudity — *gasp!* — and religious themes and symbolism) are like the epitome of evil in the eyes of many fundies. But I take this very personally as an anime/manga lover. Grrrr!!! And every complaint this person has about anime/manga applies to ALL fiction, FFS:

Going into excruciating detail about some FICTIONAL cartoon characters as if they were real?

You can't have one genre of [fiction], without realizing the extent and brutality of the others.

[Fiction] is MAINLY for adults, evidenced by the storylines. Some [fiction] is just plain BORING. Some is DISGUSTING.

[Fiction] ... has been designed to rip you from the real world ...

Why is this person so surprised that fiction is all of these things? Anyone can write fiction, so obviously at least some subset of it is going to disgusting and possibly just plain evil. And of course it "rips us from reality". That's what it does by definition! That's why it EXISTS. God this person is stupid.

Also, before reading his name, why did I get the distinct impression that the writer was a woman? I always do that. If it's a man, I think it's a woman, and if it's a woman, I think it's a man. No clue why. *sigh*

Also, the whole page is a gold mine. A lot of comments on there should go on here.

@furbearingbrick

That last one, Manga Messiah, I actually own. Not kidding. XD My mom saw it somewhere, don't remember where, and just because it had "manga" in the title she thought I'd like it. She gave no thought to the fact that a) I'm an atheist (and technically so is she!), and b) The book is hardly worthy of the name "manga", as it was clearly written and drawn (badly) by Americans and the art is crappy even compared to the crappiest of American cartoons, let alone compared to manga/anime. It's a "manga" in name only. Also, it's heavily Bowdlerized. HEAVILY.

What I got out of this: He clearly has never watched pokemon or bayblade. And whatever he's watched still probably isn't the most brutal stuff out there.

Also, strong female character: Revy and Roberta! (squee!)

That's the only thing in there that is actually true. LoL.

Anime! The Devil's cartoons! (Along with the obvious American examples: SpongeBob, Bugs Bunny, and Mickey Mouse!)

Todd:

1. Watching a television series, or reading a graphic novel series, is a hobby. These people are no more obsessed with anime/manga than other Americans are with their favorite American television series.

2. By your argument, American movies are disgusting, because the American film industry also produces pornography.

3. Nobody believes that fiction is real. You'd have to be a complete idiot to believe that the Elric brothers are running around zapping things, Sergeant Frog is REALLY trying to take over the world, or that preteen girls are really, truly transforming into superheroines in sailor suits. I mean, come on.

4. I'm sorry if YOU were pulled away from Christianity by Japanese entertainment, but I assure you this is not the norm.

I'm pretty sure the anime/manga fans know they're reading fiction.
In that respect, they're smarter than you.

@furbearingbrick: Let's Bible is about a boy trying to rape Girl!Jesus. All the Apostles have been reincarnated as sexy girls, too.

That aside...

I love animation in general and I like anime. There are all kinds of shows that appeal to varying age groups and audiences. Not all of it is fanservice and porn.

As a big anime/manga fan, Todd H, I would like to inform you that you are

A. Full of shit

B. Haven't seen much anime or manga.

Sure, a great many 'do' have similiar roots and ideas, but that's common in all literature, if one looks and reads enough there will be so many common ideas and themes.

Besides, a great deal of it is better written 'and' more interesting than your religious fiction.
