Why is it that liberals get accused of not supporting the troops when they protest illegitimate wars that cost the lives of thousands of soldiers but assholes like "max americana" get to call themselves patriots, even though they spit on people like Stephen Hill, who risk their lives to protect their sorry asses?

These Republican debates are just surreal.

So far, the audience has demanded to let uninsured people die if the can't pay for their medical treatment, they cheered at Rick Perry for executing more prisoners than any other governor, including at least one innocent man, Michele Bachmann got applause for lying about vaccination and now this.

Is this first national convention for sociopathic assholes and witless goons or what?

As much as I've called these people sociopaths in the past, I doubt that most of them are. If they were sociopaths, then at least they'd have the "excuse" that it would be impossible for them to care about anyone but themselves, even if they wanted to. Whether the fact that genuine sociopaths are soulless monsters incapable of goodness makes them unworthy of living is another matter. However, these people aren't genuine sociopaths. They are clearly capable of caring about the fellow members of their own, very narrow group. Saying that they are incapable of empathy would in fact be excusing their abominable behavior. They're just monstrous beings who know that what they support is evil, but do it anyway because it benefits them. Besides, if they were really all sociopaths then you'd never hear of disaffected conservatives becoming liberals. The fact that they are perfectly capable of kindness and empathy to people they like makes them worse than real sociopaths.

So to summarize: sociopaths cannot care about anyone but themselves whether they want to or not; conservatives can care about other people but choose not to.

I agree that most of these people aren't sociopaths in the clinical sense of the word but that it's an acquired trait and highly selective - but I'd still say they're sociopaths for supporting anti-social policies that are based on hating and fearing and loathing fellow human beings.
