Gays in the military are subject to the same dress rules as everyone else. And no one is punished for "opposing" someone's "fabulous lifestyle" as long as "opposing" doesn't cross the line to include harassing or beating people up or taking other actions that wouldn't be tolerated if done to a straight person.

As a straight man, I'll never understand the aversion to gays espoused by other men.

The fact of the matter is that the better looking, more physically in shape a guy is, the more I'm thrilled to death to discover he's gay.

The reasoning is simple. More gays means less competition when it comes to women for the rest of us! I personally kind of hope that the repeal of DADT is going to chase more than a few homophobes out of our military. Why? Because women love a man in uniform. If everyone in the military is gay then that's one less clearly advantaged group for me to have to worry about competing with!

Just sayin'.

Let's translate the same statement to a heterosexual equivalent:

Does that sound like yet another day in the military? Nnnno. Diamonds don't go with uniforms, the hot babes are armed and likewise uniformed, and the guns provided are quite normal-sized and anything bigger than that are banned by various international treaties - just like tight pink shirts are*. So what the hell are you worried about?

* At the start of WW2, Finnish army was not very well prepared for the war and couldn't provide uniforms for everyone. So they let people wear civilian clothes, but they had to wear a cockade in the hat, because that was the minimum required combatant identification at the time. Soldiers in civilian clothes? Banned in the Geneva Convention. Soldiers with civilian clothes and a cockade? A-OK. So, a tight pink shirt is completely forbidden. Tight pink shirt and a cockade? Suuuuure, go right ahead. I'm dragging this on because I just like saying "cockade" in this discussion. I'm weird that way.

The repealment of DADT came into effect a few days ago. LGBT personnel in the US armed forces can serve their country out & proud without the fear of repecussions in any way, shape or form.

PROTIP: For many years now, our Ministry of Defence has been lauded the world over as being very Equal Opportunities employers, re. recruitment in the British Army, Royal Navy & Royal Air Force; as long as you fit the minimum age, height & educational criteria, they'll take you, regardless of race, gender, beliefs - or lack of such - and lifestyle.

It's rumoured that, in our SAS - the hardest, most ruthless and highly-trained & disciplined Special Forces that exist - there are a few gay men. One word: Spartans.

Like I say, DADT's repealment. Deal with it.
