Quote# 84087

According to the atheistic approach above, as far as I am concerned, he cannot say for sure that he knows that God does not exist, or he will be taken as a fool. So, he has no choice but to believe that God exists. If he knew for sure that God existed, he would not have to say that he believes in God. It stands the reason then, that atheists cannot be sure about anything or they will be taken by fools. In that case, he must believe that God exists, since he is not sure He does.

According to the christianistic approach above, as far as I am concerned, he cannot say for sure that he knows that Allah does not exist, or he will be taken as a fool. So, he has no choice but to believe that Allah exists. If he knew for sure that Allah existed, he would not have to say that he believes in Allah. It stands the reason then, that christianists cannot be sure about anything or they will be taken by fools. In that case, he must believe that Allah exists, since he is not sure He does.

No, it's still wharrrgarrbblll.

You owe me $20,000. Since you can't prove that you don't and don't want to look like a fool you must give me $20,000.

In addition to the previously mentioned fallacy of Argument from Ignorance:

"as far as I am concerned, he cannot say for sure that he knows that God does not exist, or he will be taken as a fool."

Strawman fallacy, sort of.

"So, he has no choice but to believe that God exists."

False dichotomy.

If he knew for sure that God existed, he would not have to say that he believes in God.

Purely illogical. Confusion of "belief" with "faith."

"It stands the (sic) reason then,..."

Begging the question/prejudicial pleading

"... that atheists cannot be sure about anything or they will be taken by fools."

Argumentum ad Absurdium and false dichotomy.

"In that case, he must believe that God exists, since he is not sure He does."

I think he meant "doesn't" as the final word, but since I'm not sure he does ....

What.

I think it's called 'taken for a fool' moreso than 'taken by fools'.. as Nicole brilliantly points out:

So if I don't believe in your god, your people will come and kidnap me?

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.- Billy Madison

It's the first thing that went through my head in reading this.

But we can see her. And she is God.

You do the maths, Ben Assada.

Occam's Razor. Cuts through the bullshit of religion every time. Sharper than a katana, more precise than a laser. Infinitely more lethal than both.

NOBODY can be sure about anything, you moron. The scientific method, the best method we have for determining the truth or falsehood of a given claim, can only get us as far as "beyond a reasonable doubt". TOTAL certainty is impossible.

I looked at the original post here, and I found the flaw: Ben here thinks that you have to believe in something in order to accept the possibility of its existence. This isn't true. Sure it's POSSIBLE that a god may exist, but I don't believe it is the case, I don't believe it is likely, and I don't live my life as though there is a god.

Another moron who presumes to know what I think. I know for a fact your god doesn't exist, since all scriptures are man-made including yours.
Do I know for certain a god doesn't exist somewhere in the universe? No, but all available evidence points to there not being a god.

OR, he could assume that humans in general are stupid, are therefore easily mislead, especially by stupid greedy people, to believe stupid myths. The majority of mankind believing in a stupid sky fairy supports his theory.

I claim that God doesn't exist. You can't prove me wrong therefore you now have to be an atheist. See? It works the other way around too.

I Read About The Afterlife

"according to the atheistic approach above, as far as I am concerned, he cannot say for sure that he knows that God does not exist"

That's pretty much the scenario for all atheists.

"Or he will be taken as a fool."

Well, I would think it'd be highly foolish to claim something unknowable -- just like I think all you christians are highly foolish.

"So he has no choice but to believe that God exists."

No. He believes that God does not exist, does not know for sure, but will live his life under the assumption that sky fairies aren't real.

"If he knew for sure that God existed, he would not have to so that he believes in God."

What? That makes no fucking sense. If he somehow knew for sure that God existed, he would probably say that he believes in God incredibly often or at least whenever asked.

"It stands to reason then, that atheists cannot be sure about anything or they will be taken by fools."

I can be sure that when I drop a pencil, gravity will cause it to fall. I can also be sure that the earth is rotating and revolving around the sun.

"In that case, he must believe that God exists, since he is not sure he does."

Do you believe Pink Unicorns exist? But you can't be sure. OH MY GOD, YOU MUST BELIEVE PINK UNICORNS EXIST.

Yeah, that made about as much sense to me as it did to you.
