I'm sorry, you don't get to steal sciency words and use them in contexts where they have zero meaning.
Also, the rest of your argument begs for a . The world is simple through B&W fundie glasses, isn't it?

Seems like one of those claims that you should be able to back up with a few statistical studies. So go to it, Taylor. Support your claim.

"With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."
-- Steven Weinberg.

Replace atheist/atheism with christianist/christianity, and you might be on to something there.
10/9/2011 9:39:36 AM
Do you like the smell of bullshit in the morning, Taylor? Does it smell of spiritual entropy?
10/9/2011 9:39:46 AM
We in the UK actually have a state religion, the Church of England, yet our Parliament is very secular (PROTIP: India is the most religious country on the planet, yet politically it's even more secular than ours).
I live in Hull, one of the Top 5 least religious parts of the UK. Lots of churches here have been converted to furniture warehouses, pubs/nightclubs (one called 'Heaven and Hell'; oh, the irony!), or simply left to rot.
In Sweden, just 5% of the population are regular churchgoers; less so in Denmark.
According to surveys & polls conducted by the EU, the Czech Republic is the least religious country in Europe.
Your light is dying, fundies, and you know it.

I'm speechless in the face of such blatant hypocrisy. Awe-struck, in fact.

Atheists For Downtopia!

'Uptopia'? Is that near Elbonia?

@Anon-e-moose: Not only that but the more secular a country becomes the more progressive it becomes as well. European nations have some of the most progressive health care, justice and welfare systems in the world. Meanwhile in the states the most conservative people are also the most religious and fervently stand against universal health care and welfare programs as well as seeing no problem with executing prisoners.
Sorry Taylor but it's religious conservatism, not atheism, keeping us from a better society.

Guess that's why we have so many school shootings, murders and on-going wars in Sweden, why everybody lives in poverty and we're all illiterate and unwell. Or, ya know, not.
Taylor, dear; we're much more than one little atheist over here. In your view we're probably more or less atheists, the lot of us. But, what do you know; we're in the top ten of most lists of things like life expectancy, average health, literacy, average level of education, etc. (We have been plummeting a bit in the lists during the latest government, though...)
We haven't had a single school shooting, and the state does not murder its subjects.
Only during the latest, rather conservative, government are we actively joining in wars. Before that it was something like 100 years since we were last at war with someone.
10/9/2011 10:16:03 AM
"Spiritual entropy"? "Uptopia"? Stop trying to use smart words.
10/9/2011 10:28:45 AM
There's been one huge barrier over the years to a secular or humanist Utopia. Religion. Don't take my word for it, history shows it. The most peaceful nations are those most free of it or similar philophocies
10/9/2011 10:39:15 AM
Scandinavia. You. Fucking. Fail.
10/9/2011 10:50:42 AM
Religion continues to drop off, atheism grows, and yet crime and violence are also on the decline. Reality disagrees with you, Taylor.
10/9/2011 10:51:59 AM
@ Anon-e-moose and Swede:
Oh, how I wish the fundies' influence were dying over here... *rants about America being hopelessly reactionary compared to Western and Northern Europe*
It's all the South's fault, really... May Andrew Johnson and Rutherford B. Hayes, the presidents who were South-enablers, be burning in hell for all eternity...
10/9/2011 10:52:46 AM
Hmm. Atheists are more likely to be humanists. Humanism= "All life is worthy of respect. Morality can be based on empathy. Others are like ourselves in that they are capable of feeling pain, so we should seek to minimise inflicting pain or injury on others."
Christianity= "Life is not really important. What matters is being in heaven with God. The flesh and the world are sinful. Some people are evil and ought to be punished. Other people are part of a righteous elect. Our morality is based on an ancient book which commands us to stone people to death for certain minor things."
Which of these two worldviews will be the most likely to result in murder?
@Anon-e-moose: the Church of England is the established church of England, not of the UK as a whole.
10/9/2011 10:53:52 AM
Something tells me that you don't actually have anything to back this argument up. Also, i doubt that you understand what makes mankind tick.
10/9/2011 10:56:59 AM
Citations seriously fucking needed.
Show me where/when this is ever the case.
Go ahead, I'm waiting.
This reminds me of Herman Cain " Now I don't have facts to back this up, but.."
10/9/2011 11:05:14 AM
Many atheists spend their college years matriculating in public.
10/9/2011 12:35:27 PM
You're a fuckwit of biblical proportions.
10/9/2011 3:20:12 PM
Um. Yeah. Well, one little priest can't do much on his own, but if it spreads, much like a virus, it would be deadly, turning society into a pathological and homicidal mess. Religion is simply stupidity in action. Religion always leads to death and destruction, never to Utopia.
There, I fixed it for you--including the spelling of "Utopia"!
10/9/2011 4:22:36 PM
On june 22nd 1941, 4.5 million christians marched in unison...
It was called Operation Barbarosa. The great crusade against atheist communism.
Their machineguns blessed by priests, ministers, and bishops, 4.5 million christians embarked on a holy crusade that killed over 25 million civilians.
Dont try to minimize this.
10/9/2011 5:26:25 PM
Well, I'm an atheist, and I'm a big softie.
10/9/2011 5:58:57 PM
"Spiritual entropy always leads to death and destruction, never utopia".
Ok. So the opposite would be spiritual exuberance. Which lead to witch burnings, hangings, inquisitions and torture, etc. Thank gawd yall christinsanes dont really take yalls bronze age mythology any more serious than yall already do.
