Look at the political base of the Democratic Party: it is single mothers who run a household. Why? Because it’s so tough economically that they look to the government for help and therefore they’re going to vote. So if you want to reduce the Democratic advantage, what you want to do is build two parent families, you eliminate that desire for government.

Ahem, I was a single mother who worked shit jobs to make sure my children were taken care of. Your precious Republican Red states suck the most from the federal trough, and your lying about it won't change it.
I grew up in a staunchly Democratic two-parent family. My happily married brother and his wife both vote Democrat.
But keep saying idiotic shit like this, it's only helping push us towards another Democratic victory.

So families lead to a desire for anarchy? I'm pretty sure any reasonable family doesn't want companies to sell lead tainted toys and uninspected food. Most families also quite like having a public school system (even though it could definitely use some fixing). I'm also pretty sure they like public roads, police officers, firemen, and the ability to catch, try, and jail criminals.
P.S. Does anyone else find it hypocritical that the Teapublicans that are so anti-government are running for government positions?
Let's see....I am the husband in a two parent household. For the last 20 years I have been supporting my family through military service to my country. My wife is not employed making me the sole "breadwinner."
Sounds like the ideal Republican Christian family, doesn't it? Wrong! I am not only a Democrat and liberal, but an atheist as well.
OMG! I just destroyed your false assertions.
Nevermind all the other things wrong with what you said . . . but one way to help reduce the number of single-mom households would be through very non-republican legislation:
Put better sex education in schools
Make birth control more accessible
That includes making abortion available to low income women
Give women the tools to take control of the reproductivity, and fewer of them will have kids without a partner who is willing and able to help with child-rearing. There were still be single-parent households, for many, many reasons, but not as many.
What, Rick? No mention of how single mothers are nothing but slutty whores who can't be bothered to marry the guy who knocked them up?
Maybe if this wasn't the Republican view on single mothers, you might actually help them out a bit so they don't always have to vote for Democrats.

I love the smell of arguments blasted out of the space-time continuum in the morning. Smells like... victory.
"Look at the political base of the Democratic Party: it is single mothers who run a household. Why?"
Well, Rick, the reason many single mothers are Dems is because the GOP treats them like dirt. Same for poor people and minorities. Many intellectuals are Dems because they can see the short-sightedness of not helping those in need and they are concerned about fairness.
Why are you and your friends Reps? Because you're greedy a**holes who already have yours and don't give a big rat's a** about the have nots.
Gospel according to Rick, 10:31-32:Verily, letteth he who hath two cloaks giveth the other to he who hath ten, and letteth he who hath no cloak starveth.
But, Mr Frothy, surely you must realize that this is an argument against poverty/precarity (and for better sex ed/more affordable birth control), not against the Democratic Party...
And your Teabagging fans amply proved that one can be on government assistance and still be rabidly Republican. At least these impoverished single mothers you mention know better than to vote against their interests, which is more than can be said for your trailer trash fanbase.
By insisting (unrealistically) on chastity before marriage, Cahn and Carbone argue, social conservatives guarantee that their children will get pregnant early and often, leading to teen childbirth, shotgun marriages and high divorce rates.
This self-defeating cycle could explain why socially conservative states have more family instability than, say, the culturally liberal Northeast. If you’re looking for solid marriages, head to Massachusetts, not Alabama.

Rick, either we can use the government as a tool of social and infrastructural improvement, or we can use it as a tool for destruction. I really hope more people in the media would pick up on the message that Republicans don't give a damn about America, and only want to use it's government as a military weapon.
It's like he wants something reasonable (fewer single-parent homes) but wants to take the most retarded possible route to get there (abstinence-only sex ed, banning contraception, attacking abortion).
Basically we just need more people getting married and that'll fix every social problem because Jesus.
"build two parent families"
Does this mean you support homosexual marriages, and allow said homosexuals to adopt?
Hey Ricky, you are so wrong. My grandmother was a single parent, worked her ass off to support 4 kids, and she was a staunch republican from the word go.
Right, because everything always works out all time every time 100% of all times.
All we have to do, is be Republican! And not deviate. Possibly TRY to not be black!
Seriously, fuck you Rick. Fuck your fucking fucked up face. Your a corporate shill with fascist aspirations and you want to standardize mankind.
Fucker!
I love that stereotype that all liberals are poor, underprivileged homemakers dependent on the government for support.
Of course, it's a horseshit stereotype.
My mom's a single mother. By choice. She wanted to raise me on her own and by God, she did it (and I didn't turn out too bad - no drugs, no delinquency, etc.). She had a great job when I was growing up - she didn't need government assistance. And we're both true-blue liberals, because there are people who do need assistance to survive in this cutthroat world you promote.
I had a great childhood. We were pretty well-off. And I never needed a father to help provide that. Stop trying to push the artificially-constructed nuclear family on America. You're looking more and more like a parody every day - except you're serious.
...can you tell this bullshit annoys me?
So if you want to reduce the Democratic advantage, what you want to do is build two parent families, you eliminate that desire for government.
Conversely, you Christians (who, by your own claim, are the majority), could do what your Bible teaches, and actually take care of the poor, thus eliminating the need for government intervention.
Since that has not happened in the last two thousand years (and is less likely now that the Republicans have convinced you that God only likes rich people), the poor need to turn to the government to help.
So Rick, are you going to have federal agents force people to get married at the business end of a shotgun then? Yea, because that will shrink government, an entire department whose sole purpose is to keep track of people fucking. Fucking moron... No wonder your name means shit and lube.
(P)Rick here would have an aneurysm if he watched the BBC drama-documentary "Cathy Come Home":
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathy_Come_Home
And not just for it's subject matter, neither. "Cathy Come Home" was instrumental in destroying the old social taboo in the UK about single parenting, in the 1960s.
Such is the power of TV.
@dionysus:
P.S. Does anyone else find it hypocritical that the Teapublicans that are so anti-government are running for government positions?
I can't remember who said it or the exact wording, but there's a quote something like, "conservatives believe government always fails, and, when they're elected, prove just that."
"...what you want to do is build two parent families..."
- And how do you plan on doing this? Improving access to birth control and accurate sex education to cut down on the number of shotgun marriages? Promoting public campaigns against domestic violence (with support from law enforcement)? Encouraging acceptance of homosexuality so people do not feel the need to join in marriages of appearance?
Or maybe you'll just smear single mothers hoping to shame them out of existence.
Confused?
