It's time for a quick vocabulary lesson, and I realize that these two words are similar in both pronunciation and meaning so I accept that not all people can appreciate the nuances of each word:
Eschatology is the study of end times matters.
Scatology is the study of matter coming out of your end.
Posts like those of TrueBeliever blur the distinction between these two words.

It didn't 'appear to fail', it did fail. It failed just as completely as every other of the thousands of earlier predictions and as just as completely as every future one will do until the Sun becomes a Red Giant in about five billion years.
