Quote# 84542

“How do you feel about open homosexuals tending to your child in a health care setting? Do you think these folks provide good role modeling at a time when your child is very vulnerable? I was thinking about this recently when I heard that Children’s Hospital in Columbus has a homosexual employees group called NCHARGE, which stands for Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s Advocates Representing Gay Employees. The meeting minutes of this groups reveal that they participated in last June’s gay pride parade, that they participated in a health expo on adolescent health this summer and that they’re concerned about same-sex partner benefits. They’re also planning to be identified with rainbow lapel pins.

But let’s say your eleven year-old has broken her leg rather badly and needs to be in the hospital a few days, which would you prefer: a nurse who’s proud of her lesbianism, who has rainbow identifiers on her work clothing, or a nurse who does not?

I would like to suggest that parents think long and hard about this. If you want your children to admire people who proclaim a homosexual lifestyle, they’re involvement with your child during a hospital stay is sure to be an influence. And let me be clear that folks involved in these behaviors can be certainly competent workers but they are tacking on to their workplace identity one that is highly offensive to many people and can be erroneously influential to children who won’t, or shouldn’t, see the whole picture of how this behavior really manifests itself.

Here’s what parents can do: select your pediatrician very carefully, first of all. There are a few homosexual doctors treating kids, there are far more nurses, LPNs, technicians and other health care workers in these lifestyles so you may want to consider writing a letter that you file with your pediatrician that should your child ever be hospitalized, you do not want your child to be treated or cared for by one of these members of the Children’s Hospital gay employees group except in the case of an emergency situation. But for routine in-hospital care where contact with your child would be required, your values should be respected.”

I wouldn't give a fuck as long as the nurse knew what she was doing. Then again, I'm not a bigoted dip-shit who thinks teh ghey can be caught from coming into contact with gay people either.

in regard to the question without bothering to read the rest of the dribble. if my child is in a health care setting i don't give a SHIT who gives my child medical attention so long as they are professional and competent. i really don't care what my doctors do in their own time. its nosey ass people like you that care waaaaaaay too much about other peoples love lives.

...i would prefer the nurse who is proud of who she is. hopefully my child could learn to have a backbone of her own. although i doubt that the nurse would bring in on herself to lecture my kid. after all that's supposed to be my job.

however i would i admit think twice about letting her near a fundamentalist. you see fundys WOULD take it upon themselves to indoctern my child given the chance. and i doubt being the daughter of atheist parents would help. her trip to recovery might very well turn into an annoyance for everyone involved.

Perhaps fundies should present all persons outwith their local church with whom they might have some contact with some kind of questionnaire, and then shun all those who answer incorrectly. With any luck, none of us would ever have speak to a fundie again.

Also: Linda: your eleven old has a choice of being treated by only three people: a lesbian, a Muslim, and an atheist. Which one do you pick, or do you let the kid die?

What a great idea!
Over time you could extend it.
"I don't want my kids treated by atheists."
And then "I don't want my kids treated by people who believe in evolution."
"Nobody who voted for Obama"
"Non-white? No thanks."
"A Jewish Doctor? Who ever heard of such a thing. Not for my kids."
"Reformed Baptists? Not near my kids."
Eventually your kids will be able to be seen, there'll be a Swedish Doctor attending in two months time.

Think of it as evolution in action.

So, if homosexual workers do a fine job while letting people know that they are homosexual, people might come to respect them at the same time as knowing that they are homosexual.

Your very concern shows that the plan is working! :D

Honestly, I DON'T FUCKING CARE. I just want the nurse who knows what zie's doing. Yes, sometimes that nurse is the one with the gay pride pin on zir lapel. (Not all nurses are female, Linda!)

Lesbian Nurses? I've thought long and hard about that. I like it.

Linda Harvey; she's Anita Bryant 2011.

I mean, really? Your child might catch 'teh ghey' from a doctor/nurse/whatever?

"except in the case of an emergency situation."

Oh, so they're good enough when it's life or death but worthless, disgusting trash at all other times? You fucking hypocrite. I hope you get acute piles and your proctologist is Big Gay Al.

Farker fusillade762: I find it amusing that so many of these bigots are so utterly terrified of gays, yet at the same time seem to view them as being supernaturally seductive. Like it's only a monumental exercise of willpower that prevents them from exploding into a fabulous shower of gay. "ZOMG, gay is worse than crack! One hit of gay and you're hooked for life." It belies a remarkable lack of faith in their parenting skills to think that brief, casual contact with a complete stranger of another lifestyle will completely undo years of their own precious snowflake molding.

Bob: Please, don't tell me not being willing to kill one's child in the name of one's ideology is what you find wrong in this woman's thinking.

Yeah, well, Linda Harvey is a sad, small, pathetic woman who needs to get laid more often so she won't worry about the sex lives of others.

Who gives a fuck if the doc/nurse is gay, trans, bi, straight or a space alien!! I would think a concerned parent would be more worried about their child's health than the personal life of a professional health worker! As long as they do their job correctly and efficiently who gives a fuck what they do in their own bedroom.

You have a point. I'll make sure none of my childs health care people are fundies. You never know when they'll discard medical science and start invoking imaginary spooks to cure a real disease.

I'm sure Linda Harvey would have no problem with anyone taking their daughter to Delaware pediatrician Earl Bradley. (Look it up.)

Sure, he is now serving a life sentence after being found guilty of 471 sex offenses against little girls. But, hey, at least he's not gay!

Look at that! Rambling proof that gay is contagious. Wow, now I can live my life knowing that if I am sick or injured and a gay nurse or doctor is taking care of me, there is like a 50% chance that the gay is transmitted to me. That's such a good thing to know. Now if only I could abandon all common sense and cognizant thought and just believe in Jesus, my life would surely be better and I could pray away the gay. Life is so hard without god.

It's easy to see why this has them in hysterics - the theocratic/conservative bigot's world view states that gays are irredeemably and absolutely evil. Moreover, their world view is a complete, integrated package - the primary fear of any fundamentalist is that if but a single, tiny part of their belief system falters, the entire edifice will come crashing down. Hence, a filthy sinner like a gay person doing something patently, unambiguously good, like healing children, fer chrissake, utterly destroys their entire reality.

Being faced with gays and other "sinners" who also do other virtuous things they only associate with the sinless is, for such bigots, a crisis to which their only solution is that sinners must not be allowed to act like good people. If gays won't be utterly evil of their own accord, they must be forced to.

Such is the logic of fundamentalist morality.

WTF does it matter to me as long as the nurse does her job? A child is either going to grow up straight or gay, and having a lesbian nurse during a short hospital visit is not going to change that one way or the other.

This whole post just screams, "they're coming to get your kids! Ooga booga!"

although the rainbow pin might bring up safety and health issues (it's an unsterilized needle in a hospital, and america is the world leader of frivolous lawsuits) i see no problem having a gay doctor or a lesbian surgeon, if and only if they know their job. then again, that's what i ask of all my health care professionnals (a psychologist who treats anxiety attacks with ritalin and reading psalms, no thanks).

bitch seems to have confused (again) homosexuality with pedophilia AND an std. what world do we live in again?

Far more secure, than letting them anywhere near right-wingers...:

...and thus - by definition - God-fearing fundamentalist Christians.

If I had children, I'd rather trust them with a member of the Labour/Democrat party who was gay. After all, just show me just one member of the GOP who is an avowed Atheist?

Anyone who's saving lives and healing people is a good role model.

But let’s say your eleven year-old has broken her leg rather badly and needs to be in the hospital a few days, which would you prefer: a nurse who’s proud of her lesbianism, who has rainbow identifiers on her work clothing, or a nurse who does not?

Why does it matter? The gay nurse isn't going to spread teh ghey through the kid's cast. Why should the hospital have to rearrange the schedules of their nurses just because you're a weirdo?

And let me be clear that folks involved in these behaviors can be certainly competent workers but they are tacking on to their workplace identity one that is highly offensive to many people

I find Christianity pretty damn offensive but I'm not going to flip a shit if my doctor has a Bible in his pocket or even carries one around everywhere.

you may want to consider writing a letter that you file with your pediatrician that should your child ever be hospitalized, you do not want your child to be treated or cared for by one of these members of the Children’s Hospital gay employees

Sure, and then the hospital staff can have a good laugh at your expense.

I want a well trained, competent doctor taking care of the children in my family. Period. If they happen to be gay, more power to them.
