Quote# 84586

A CNN anchor asked earlier this week whether or not Jesus would occupy Wall Street.

That question can be answered with a categorical “No.”

First, Jesus has no truck with rank, blatant hypocrites. The OWS crowd has now fallen to squabbling over who gets a slice of the $500,000 which has been donated to them, and which, by the way, they put in one of the evil, greedy banks they are out to destroy.

Secondly, Jesus has no truck with those whose entire agenda is to flagrantly disobey two of the Ten Commandments of God.

God said, “Thou shalt not steal,” a commandment Jesus affirmed on numerous occasions. Stealing is wrong, and it doesn’t make it right when government does it under color of law.

And the OWS crowd is animated by a thoroughly ugly disregard for the 10th Commandment as well. God says, “Thou shalt not covet...any thing that is thy neighbor’s.” And yet the Occupiers are driven by a dark, bitter, resentful, angry and acquisitive greed for stuff that belongs to other people.

I submit that no political program that is predicated on a violation of twenty percent of God’s moral law can possibly be right, can possibly work, or can possibly be good for America.

Jesus took a whip to the thieves and the covetous in his day. If he were to come back and do the same thing today, he just might start in Zuccotti Park.

In other words, he might occupy Wall Street after all.

"And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves ..." Matthew 21:12 KJV

"Jesus has no truck with those whose entire agenda is to flagrantly disobey two of the Ten Commandments of God."

---Like multinationals and international banking?

"“Thou shalt not covet...any thing that is thy neighbor’s.”

---So why then is America in Iraq, and possibly planning to invade Iran at some future date?

But the final sentence of Bryan's screed is unbelievable contradiction of what he has already said.

Where are them in white coats?

'Categorical "No"', Bryan...? Question:

Outside St. Paul's Cathedral, London:

Answer (again, outside St Paul's Cathedral, London):

After all, if you're so sure that's what your Jesus 'would do', Bryan Fischite, what's stopping him from doing similarly - and right now - here outside one of his 'Houses of God', as he did with the moneylenders from his temple before, hmmmmmmmm?!

Pop quiz, hotshot: why have two - count 'em, two senior Church of England clergy resigned over the issue of this 'occupation' of outside one of said C-of-E's major places of worship, and the protesters - who to date haven't done anything wrong - are still there?

PROTIP: We in the UK don't have a US-style Constitution (outside of the EU Declaration of Human Rights). Civilised, peaceful protest is a basic human right. As a US Constitution (especially the 'Freedom of Worship'; 2nd Amendment, and all that jazz)-loving American, I'm sure you'd agree, eh...?!

Now who's the hypocrite...? This isn't going to go away, Bryan. And you know it.

@jsonitsac

"the people at old school video arcades"

I am one of those 'old school arcades' people. And while I love video games (a major MAME freak am I!), you've just reminded me of the arcades at the Butlins Filey holiday camp, which had - up to the mid-late 1970s - electro-mechanical games:

@Thinking Allowed (emphasis added):

"What was that thing Jesus did in the temple all those years ago with a switch?"

He turned off those moneylenders to the idea of they being in the temple in the first place...?

...I'll get my coat. Also:

Sort of like the people at old school video arcades.

Including the porno movie stalls, which btw, also took Susan B. Anthony dollars.

It's so obvious that Fischer doesn't actual read the bible. As that guy from the Austin Atheist Experience said, actually reading the bible is the best path to atheism. But even if you believe the bile is true, then Jesus was, by todays standards, a socialist. Just because you believe that America is "God's chosen country" TM, does not mean that every aspect of America is guaranteed to please god. America is not perfect. Oh, and the founding fathers were just men. I've always said that I wish heaven existed, just so that I could see the looks on these fundies' faces when St Peter shunts them off to hell. But I definitely believe that most of the founding fathers would be appalled at nutjobs like Fischer.

Quoting Jesus, "It is easier to get a camel through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to get into the Kingdom of Heaven'. Mr. Fischer, I think with that sentence alone, it's pretty obvious that Jesus would be supporting these protestors.

Also: Jesus also spent all his time with the poor, the sick, and the tax collectors, and not the super wealthy. The logic being is if you have had the time to accumulate a vast fortune, you were too occupied with material things to truly be spiritual and a good person.

"Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's" does not mean "taxes are theft", it means pay your taxes.

And it's pretty clear that when he said all that stuff about giving what you have to the poor and rich men having an easier time getting through the eye of a needle than getting into heaven, he wasn't telling the poor not to "covet" what the rich had.

I've been hearing a commercial lately for the Missouri Lottery which has various Christmas carols with every word replaced with "cash," but I have yet to hear any Christian outrage over it since this is the exact reason that Jesus overturned the money changer's tables in the temple. I'm sure if Jesus existed, he wouldn't be pleased with his birthday being turned into a money making opportunity by corporations or state lotteries.

Jesus very clearly spoke against rich people in the bible (it's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven), so I'm sure he'd be right out there among the protesters.

As I recall it was money lenders Jesus laid the whip to in the temple, that would be the banks in today's language.
As for stealing, it's quite the stretch of logic to claim the government is stealing revenue (i.e. taxes) and passing them on to the poor, but I guess with your limited thinking capacity that constitutes theft.
As for the original question of whether Jesus would occupy Wall Street, I'll leave you with Matthew 19:23-24:
"Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."

1. The devil can cite Scripture for his purpose. ("The Merchant of Venice," Act I, Scene 3)

2. Bryan Fischer can cite Scripture for his purpose.

3. Therefore, Bryan Fischer is the devil.
