Quote# 84863

The standard evolutionary astronomy model contradicts the Bible in almost every way possible. Therefore, we know that the evolutionary model can’t be true. As the Word of God, the Bible stands on its own authority, contradictory accounts are wrong by definition (see also p. 50).

"The heliocentric model contradicts the Bible in almost every way possible. Therefore, we know that the heliocentric model can’t be true. As the Word of God, the Bible stands on its own authority, contradictory accounts are wrong by definition."

The truth will out. Urban VIII couldn't stop it, neither will the Creationists.

"The standard evolutionary astronomy model" makes about as much sense as "The standard gravitational model of economy". Biology =/= astronomy!

@Narvi

Really? That's the part you choose to complain about?

I think "evolutionary astronomy model" is a rather good phrase. It sits there, at the very front of the quote, letting the reader know that there must soon be some truly bat-shit level insanity to follow.

Evolutionary astronomy?

You know, just because you don't understand two words doesn't mean they'll make sense if you string them together.

Bible contradicts itself. Bible must be wrong.

Further along in the article, Psarris writes this:

In a small telescope, Saturn appears to have one solid ring. However, we now know that Saturn has many thousands of rings, nested one inside another.

Nor are these rings solid. They’re actually made up of billions of particles, all orbiting the planet together. The smallest particles are grains of dust, while the largest are house-sized boulders.

"We now know"? Ok, sure we do, but how? By scientific research, that's how.

I find it very amusing that Psarris uses scientific findings to dismiss the exact same scientific findings he accepts.

Is he aware that much of the communication and navigation of the Saturn probes rely on relativity to function properly? As does the navagation device in his car? I duobt it very much.

Is there anything more irritating and asinine than that phrase "the Bible tells us", as used in this article? "The Bible tells us that x" as though that makes it true.
Also, the false dichotomy of the biblical account and the "evolutionary" model (read= standard scientific model accepted by 99.9% of scientists)being the only two choices. Even if there was doubt about the standard model, that would be a good thing because it would lead to more hypothesising and get us closer to the truth. The Bible doesn't win by default. Not ever.

Belief with evidence to the contrary = inexcusable stupidity

Learn the difference.

Edit - what is evolutionary astronomy?

When everything seems to contradict a single source, usually it's the single source that's the problem.

"The standard evolutionary astronomy model . . ."

Stars aren't alive so evolution doesn't apply to them. You fail even before you finish the first sentence.

That's fine, but have it stand over there out of the way. The rest of us are trying to have a civilization right here.

Actually, star evolution IS a term used to describe how stars form, develop and die. It has nothing to do with biological evolution, though.

Evolution =/ Astronomy, Spike. You'd do well to learn the difference.

So what do you do when the Bible contradicts itself?

"The standard evolutionary astronomy model" ... does not exist you stupid waffle.

Astronomy is the study of the stars, planets, and other large objects in space.

Evolution is a biological process of genetic diversification over generations, within a breeding population.

The standard evolutionary astronomy model

Reading the article (and trying not to puke while laughing out loud), he uses the term "evolution" in relation to the planets to mean that they were formed slowly and naturally instead of being instantaneously created "on Day 4 of Creation Week", the solution he prefers.

"The standard evolutionary astronomy model contradicts the Bible in almost every way possible."

What the hell is a "standard evolutionary astronomy model"?

"Therefore, we know that the evolutionary model can’t be true."

I would have to agree since you seem to have just made it up on the spot.

"As the Word of God, the Bible stands on its own authority, contradictory accounts are wrong by definition"

Yes. Contradictory accounts are, generally speaking, wrong by definition. Which brings me to your Bible...
