Fossils (November 18, 2011)

They look the same.

All around the world, the fossilized remains of animals are being found and routinely dated to be over a hundred million years old.

For instance, someone found a fossil of a crocodile that supposedly lived 200 million years ago. What do you think it looks like? It looks just like a modern crocodile.

The fossils of clams, fish, lobsters, spiders, snakes, turtles, and frogs all look exactly like their modern counterparts.

They look the same because they are the same. Contrary to the claims of evolution, frogs have always been the frogs that God created them to be.

And there’s much evidence that these animals are not that old, but were buried rapidly, victims of a much more recent Global Flood.

Not exactly, it does look like there's 'much evidence' that modern organisms evolved from the ones that left those fossils

look at the site, and see what scientists say, and who those scientists are . is interesting.

Where is that evidence those animals are "not that old"? Funny how you talk about those animals being so old and how they are no different. THEN, claim they are not old. Are you backsliding on your 6000 year old earth theory????
I was just in the Museum of the rockies. I dont recall any of those fossils looking like anything alive today.

Yeah, Irish Elks and Dire Wolves looked just like modern wolves and deer.

Just freakishly huge.

Fail!

Bahahahahaha!! Someone hasn't cared to pay attention, I see! 200 million years, fuck! Look at just 40-60 million years ago! It's fucking unrecognizable! Look at this shit!

Is that a tapir or a sloth? No fucking idea!

What if I told you that this is actually a goat? Because it is.

God must have been trippin' balls when he made this thing.

Buried rapidly they may be, but that doesn't stop them being millions of years old.

Oh yeah, there may have been some subtle differences from modern-day crocodiles though. Can't quite put my finger on them.

The crocodile is fairly well optimised for the following:

1) Lurking on river banks, eating anything that is foolish enough to come near.
2) Producing little crocodiles.

As long as the river doesn't dry up (assuming that there is no alternative water nearby) it must be an easy and simple life.

As to them not changing, may I draw your attention to our friend from the late cretaceous, Deinosuchus.

Deinosuchus does look like a modern crocodile, to which it is related, apart from the minor difference of being up to fourty feet long and weighing up to eight and a half tons.

Just think of how many handbags, belts and pairs of shoes one of those would make, assuming you're brave enough to try and catch one to skin it

Apart from the bits that look different...

"And there’s much evidence that these animals are not that old, but were buried rapidly, victims of a much more recent Global Flood."

By 'much' you mean 'none' and by 'evidence'...well I have no idea what you mean by evidence but it's definitely not the same as what scientists or pretty much anyone else means.

There is so much wrong with this, I don't know where to start. For example:

"nd there’s much evidence that these animals are not that old, but were buried rapidly"

The latter does not necessarily imply the former. An animal could be buried in a landslide in seconds, then wait around underground for millions of years before being found. In which case, it was buried rapidly, but is still old.

there’s much evidence that these animals are not that old

When requested to produce and show that evidence, they usually open the Bible and say "it's right here."

Physical evidence is rare and always grossly mis-interpreted.

Polar bears evolved from Alaskan brown bears about 100,000 years ago, making them the world's most recently evolved large mammal species.

So, show me the fossil polar bears.

Except for the many times when they don't.

"And there’s much evidence that these animals are not that old, but were buried rapidly, victims of a much more recent Global Flood."

It's funny how these claims are never followed by the so-called evidence.

Um, no. They do not look "exactly the same" as their modern counterparts. The oldest ancestor of the horse looks nothing like a modern horse, for example. You are cheating by exclusively mentioning higher taxa, which are arbitrary designations and resistant to change anyway. The different species of turtle, for instance, all look clearly different, and the fossil turtles look different from all of them. Same thing with the fossil crocodilians and the other taxa you mentioned. (Though I should point out that there are fossil snakes with legs. How do you explain that?)

For instance, someone found a fossil of a crocodile that supposedly lived 200 million years ago. What do you think it looks like?

Something that could eat a bear fairly easily.

It looks just like a modern crocodile.

The bone structure says otherwise but even ignoring small details like that, it's freaking huge. No modern crocodile grows to be 40 feet long.

The fossils of clams, fish, lobsters, spiders, snakes, turtles, and frogs all look exactly like their modern counterparts.

Except when they don't. Oh, and even if they DO look the same (aesthetically) that doesn't mean nothing changed. You do know that fossils don't come with internal organs and they're just as susceptible to change as anything else.

They look the same because they are the same.

No, they're not. Most of those aren't even in the same genus.

Contrary to the claims of evolution, frogs have always been the frogs that God created them to be.

Funny then how we never find frogs in the time of Tiktaalik.

And there’s much evidence that these animals are not that old

What evidence? "I don't like the dates radiometric dating gives me"?

but were buried rapidly, victims of a much more recent Global Flood

There has never been a time when the entire Earth was flooded. Geologists have been able to find tiny little piss-ant local floods and even some other weather phenomena yet have yet to see any signs of a global flood.

Janet, honey, look: if you had taken the time to go to a real museum like the Smithsonian instead of the creation museum, you would know about the difference of fossils in the evolutionary track. Instead, you confine yourself to the "logic" of a Bronze Age book misinterpreted by such an outrageous idiot ignorant of any kind of science beyond salt making water boil. The misunderstanding of science and scientific dating procedures is so moronic, the notion that a "recent Global Flood" caused the animals to be "buried rapidly", and the obviously idiocy behind "God" creating things has caused me to have a stroke and I cannot feel the entire left side of my body. Thanks, Janet, you asshole.
