Quote# 84882

If look at history from the mid-1960s, we’ve gone from a request for toleration to an imposition of intolerance. We’ve gone from a request to understand others to a determination to close down those who hold traditional values.
I think that we need to be very aggressive and very direct. The degree to which the left is prepared to impose intolerance and to drive out of existence traditional religion is a mortal threat to our civilization and deserves to be taken head on and described as what it is which the use of government to repress the American people against their own values.

And yet the same exact thing was said about ending Jim Crow laws and giving women equal rights. Those who seek to obstruct social progression in the name of their outdated prejudices are an even bigger threat to our civilization.

Yes, some people are intolerant of your rampant bigotry. Shocking. But as a non-US citizen, I'm constantly nauseated at the way christianity is forced down the public's throat at every possible juncture in your country. You are the majority. You are not being oppressed.
Livng up to your name, Newt, you slimy fresh-water bastard.

No one is trying to drive out "traditional religion". They just want to keep the government out of it. The government doesn't stop people from having their own beliefs. They just aren't going to let one particular religion use the government as an ad agency.

Newt, Newt, Newt. It is not traditional religion, but intolerant religion that needs to be driven out. You know, the kind that oppresses those who are different and would have thier beliefs legislated to the exclusion of all other beliefs. And, what Aspergus said.

No, people are just becoming more tolerant, and the conservative response is to be even more intolerant.

the use of government to repress the American people against their own values.

Whereas conservatives want to use the government to repress the American people by not allowing them to have abortions, telling them who they can marry or have sex with, and not to mention which church they can attend. All the while calling for less government intrusion into people's lives.

History? Mid-1960s? That's not history, stupid. If I, who's 26 years younger than you, think it's fairly recently, Newtie, how come you think it's not?

So, you liked the sixties, with its social revolutions, sexual revolutions, Woodstock, I Have a Dream, Beatles, etc? Good for you!

You need to be very aggressive and very direct with your toleration and understanding, do you?
It goes both ways; tolerance and understanding must also come from those who hold these "traditional values" (many of which were thrown out during the sixties).

"we’ve gone from a request for toleration to an imposition of intolerance. We’ve gone from a request to understand others to a determination to close down those who hold traditional values."

And considering the polls right now, that's exactly what's happening to you, Mr. Newt 'Bitch Pimp Bling-Bling' Gingrich, who indulged in the traditional values of playing around, thus being a multiple divorcee, and spent $500,000 on jewellery (and all those lobbying positions), whilst many people - voters - are worrying that their next paycheque could be their last.

Are those 'traditional values' that should be tolerated? You tell me. Certainly the electorate out there.

One more year to go. It's gonna be a charnel house in the coming months; the political equivalent of the "Hostel" films.

If the government is doing the will of the people then whats the complaint ?

Perhaps first have a Christian ctusade against churches that encourage gay members and woman clergy.

Poor, poor Conservatives. They no longer have as many rights to oppress without reprisals anymore. That's bigotry. After all, it's their long-held tradition, part of their religion really, to fuck with other people's private business.

In the meantime, Newt, you are the most unbearable hypocrite imaginable. You're talking about "family values"? YOU!? The one who ABANDONED HIS DYING WIFE?!! Fuck off, you loathesome, petulant old maggot.

Forty years from now that's not how people are going to look at it. Once again people are going to look at the conservatives as repressive assholes and gay people as a persecuted minority. This kind of rhetoric didn't work in the 60's Newt and it isn't going to work again now.

Newt, I'll keep this simple for you, what you define as "traditional values" we call intolerance.
Intolerance of gays, intolerance of other religions or religious viewpoints, intolerance of pretty much anything that is different from your narrow-minded, inbred way of thinking.
