Yeah, it's because a lot of ancient cultures used to settle near water sources (for obvious reasons) and the risk of flooding would come along with that. Only, when you're a primitive people who's whole world is the area you live in, when your area gets flooded it can seem like the whole world is flooded.

Except for there being a flood, that legend you cited (assuming it's an actual myth) has no similarities to the Biblical story. We'd expect more if there were. Besides, the reason that many cultures have flood stories is because floods are common. It makes sense for all the Mediterranean flood myths to be based on the same flood (for which there is actual evidence) but as there is no geological evidence for a worldwide flood (and how the fuck would the water recede?) the other stories are also based on local floods, because your position is untenable, Zero.

Yes. I do know.
They have such floods because, before drilling technology, people tended to live near water you idiot. When there's enough water to provide for a group, town, culture or entire civilization then that water is likely large enough to flood on occasion.
Given that most people of the time would have never gone beyond a few miles of where they were born, a large flood would certainly seem as if the "whole world" had been flooded.

Actually, that is called the late Pleistocene/Holocene meltdown, aka global warming. When Glacial Lake Agassiz, Glacial Lake Missoula, and assorted glacier-pent bodies of water were undammed around the world, they not only washed away everything in their paths; sea levels rose measurably around the world, causing catastrophic marine incursions into (quite possibly) the Eastern Mediterranean, the North Sea (drowning Doggerland), the Persian Gulf (drowning the former course of the Shatt al Arab), possibly the Red Sea and the Sea of Japan, the lower course of the Amazon, and more, besides fairly swiftly inundating the former coastal areas of the Netherlands, Bengal, and Florida. Could we do it again? Yep. Greenland could well have a Glacial Lake Agassiz beneath pent beneath its swiftly melting ice, and let's not even think about Antarctica! If it happens, though, these Bible-thumping climate deniers will claim "Gahd" did it because we all liked sex too much.

Every culture has flood stories because every culture has had to endure floods. That's a huge leap from every culture endured a global flood. That's a myth. What you're forgetting is the influence of missionaries on native people and their myythologies. A lot of it was planted then.
The one inescapable fact is the total lack of evidence for a global flood.

Classic literalist doublethink. This person has just shut off the rational part of his mind. He became aware of the various flood myths and saw the parallels between them. The natural conclusion is that the Biblical story is also a myth, not to be taken literally. But, because "the Holy Spirit revealed the truth on these matters" the Biblical story is to be taken as literal fact, while all the other flood myths are somehow still myths.

Wasn't the Black Sea area dry land at one time? I'm sure someone said on a TV program that the area in question was an agricultural based community. It must have been a huge calamity when the land bridge gave way near where Istanbul is today. Is it possible that the flood myth may have developed from stories of that event?
