Quote# 84944

Saudi Arabia is the only country to deny women the right to drive. But despite renewed protests against the ban this year, resistance to change remains strong among conservative royals and clerics.

A report this week by Kamal Subhi, a former professor at King Fahd University, warned that allowing women to drive would provoke a surge in prostitution, pornography, homosexuality and divorce. Within 10 years of the ban being lifted, it warned, there would be "no more virgins" in the kingdom.

Mr Subhi, who sent his report to all 150 members of the Shura Council, the country's legislative body, said moral decline was already discernible in other Gulf states where women were allowed to drive.

Don't worry, guys. There was a similarly extreme reaction to the idea of giving women the vote in England at first, it passed eventually. Just give these guys a couple of decades.

What is it with these religious nutbars and virginity?

I mean, I understand the whole "control" thing, all Abrahmic religions are patriarchal.

I think it still exist because such nutbars, when they marry, want to get there first, and keep it to themselves. To accomplish this, try love, respect and kindness, or stay single.

Assholes...

"Saudi Arabia is the only country to deny women the right to drive. But despite renewed protests against the ban this year, resistance to change remains strong among conservative royals and clerics."

Well, yes. But really, since when the hell do they matter? Who gives a damn what they think?

"A report this week by Kamal Subhi, a former professor at King Fahd University, warned that allowing women to drive would provoke a surge in prostitution, pornography, homosexuality and divorce."

And you have some sort of statistics to back this up, right "professor"?

"Within 10 years of the ban being lifted, it warned, there would be "no more virgins" in the kingdom."

Heavens! Whatever will you do?

"Mr Subhi, who sent his report to all 150 members of the Shura Council, the country's legislative body, said moral decline was already discernible in other Gulf states where women were allowed to drive."

I hear that once women were allowed to drive in China the price of tea skyrocketed also.

I don't have a driver's license, but I managed to lose my virginity anyway.

What difference is there between men driving and women driving, that makes the latter cause "prostitution, pornography, homosexuality and divorce", but the former doesn't cause these things? Isn't a majority of prostitution and pornography aimed at men? Why not stop THEM from driving?

I see a case similar to the connection between rate of piracy on the seven seas and global warming...

It's not like all the women will be driving to the drive-in for some back seat activities.

Ohhhh. I see where he's getting his data.

The U.S. is predominately populated by Christians. The U.S. allows women to drive. In the U.S., divorce is highest among the Christian demographic.

The U.S. is predominately populated by Christians. The U.S. allows women to drive. The U.S. prison population is predominantly Christian.

It makes sense now, once women are allowed to drive, religious people lose all self control.

I actually think there is a point to this. Well, not applied to women driving, of course, but imagine what would happen if Saudi Arabia suddenly gained all the freedoms of, say, Denmark or the USA. It would be fucking hilarious. Do you know how sexually repressed these people are? :o Isn't like the #1 search engine entry in Afganistan "donkey sex" or something? If the enforced prudishness of the government fell away, all of the magnitudes of repressed kink would be set loose...

Viva la revolución!

@atheist What is it with these religious nutbars and virginity?

Religious "morality" consider purity to be a virtue in and of itself. If you believe that sexual taboos are of divine origins, then there is no need to examine them further, and anyone who try to attribute them to the selfish reproductive interests of a traditionally male ruling class is an heretic and an infidel.

That's the main use people have found for religion, really. To disguise the ugliest aspects of human nature under a veneer of holiness. No wonder how Abrahamic religions became so successful.

Absolutely. As we've seen in every other country the whole world wide, women driving always result in wild circus sex. Heck, within 20 years they'll probably all be lesbians.

I absolutely love bullshit excuses to keep a certain group of people from having a basic right. Just like homosexuality leads to beastiality and polygamy driving apparently leads to prostitution, pornography, homosexuality and divorce lol
