The book of Revelation confirms we are headed toward a radical persecution of believers, as the kingdom of antichrist will kill innumerable amounts of people who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Already, Christians are considered by many to be less than human and as the cause of the world’s woes. Network executives will do anything for high ratings, and to a depraved people devoid of the Spirit of God, pay-per-view death games would quickly catch on.

Though I think the institution of religion has a lot to answer for and needs to be reigned in, neither I nor any atheist I have ever met or heard of has ever claimed that those who follow any religion are less than human. On the other hand, there is ample evidence that demonstrates that religious people see atheists as being intrinsically less. If anything, it is we non-believers who are persecuted and not the believers.

I thought it was rather alone in stating stupid stuff like that.

I'm "devoid of the Spirit of God", but killing and intentional harm in any form abhors me. I'm against the death penalty and wars, I'm almost a vegetarian and I don't like boxing.
But I hardly watch TV anyway.

So christians want to watch other christians being persecuted on TV.

Also, At no point in history were christians ever "sacrificed as objects of entertainment"... and certainly not in "spectator sports".
And this goes for your "days of Rome" (whatever that is).
The only people who consider christians "less than human", are other christians.
It is far more likely that we will see muslims being forced to fight eachother in deathmatches on ESPN and Superchannel.

You have no sense of perspective, and that offends me. When was the last time that anyone was calling for the deaths of Christians? We have freedom of religion in all civilized countries, so what you speak of could never happen anyway. I am sure that the actual Christian martyrs who were actually put to death for their beliefs would be utterly appalled by you. They would kill to have lived in 21st century America where they would be free to speak their minds and where most of the population is Christian anyway.

Christians are 80% of the population in the US (and a high percentage in many other Western countries). If they want to get persecuted they're going to have to do it themselves because us atheists, Pagans, Buddhists, etc. just don't have the resources to do it.

If Richard Dawkins ever gets into a cage match, but then there might be something to this. Otherwise, I think we're a long way away from killing Christians on TV. Besides, it's always the right-wing fundies who are the ones calling for public executions.

And finally, I've read the entire book of Revelation, and there's not one thing in there about Christians being persecuted just before the end times. There's plenty of bizarre stuff in there, and if Christians are likely to die during armageddon it's because of the horrors their kind, loving, all-good god is going to unleash upon the world.

1. Revelation is probably the worst piece of writing in the Bible, and it doesn't "confirm" anything except the use of hallucinogens by its writer.
2. I've never heard any atheist call Christians sub-human.
3. I used to watch the WWE, and I don't remember them doing anything anti-Christian or anti-religion (and if they had, it would have made big news in this country). And Vince McMahon is a Republican.
4. In some areas of this country you're 90% of the population. Who's going to be persecuting you guys?

He's talking about feeding Christians to the lions in Ancient Rome, which did happen (along with many other forms of execution) though details may have been exaggerated.

From Wikipedia:

Though much of the Roman religion was utilitarian, it was also heavily motivated by the pagan sense that bad things will happen if the gods are not respected and worshiped properly. Revelations. Plural. With an "s". And it was, apparently, a coded message to Christians contemporary to the writer about the immanent fall of Rome and was not intended to be any sort of prophecy.

If you're going to go a' preachin' then you should at least have better knowledge of your chosen Holy Book than those you're preaching to.
