This IS a fundie belief stemming from the Christian concept of gluttony. In certain oddball sects you still find an entire family shunning their one fat daughter for being immorally fat and obviously a sinful glutton and thus ruining God's temple. In mainstream culture we forget the Bible part but are still convinced of the sin part. When you see a picture of an very skinny model seductively eating fattening food it's tapping into this idea of perversion. Chocolate is marketed as a dark sin, darker chocolate = more immoral.

I know this will be damaging to my reputation, but I don't care.
I want to say two things:
- I HATE those that say that being fat is genetic. I really dislike them. Why? Because that is not true. I mean, not true to everyone who claims it is. Actually about 1 in 100.000 people is fatter because of genetics (while a larger amount is fat because of hormonal problems, normally temporary (thus mainly teen years and menopause)), while 8 out of 10 girls (guys are less likely to use that) will say theirs is genetic. Hell, even if it is genetic, work out harder! Eat less (the ideal amount is ~1200 cal for men) and better!
I mean, damn! I was obese, almost morbid obese, at 107 kg. And what I did? I lost 32-33 kg in ~13 months. And I am still losing weight. Hell, I didn't even change my diet, in fact I am eating MORE than before!
Stop excusing yourself!
- Bullying. I know how hard it is. I was bullied for most of my life thus far. Still, by giving up, you are just showing them that they are right! YOU are allowing them to bully you! You HAVE the power to make them shut up and be ashamed of how they treated you! Stop caring about what these idiot think, and show people how much you are worth! Don't rise a white flag, but stand up and fight with all your soul!

It is true that Genetics do not account for all of it. In fact, if it is genetic, then you are more likely to be healthier at a higher weight (I'd assume).
However, some people simply are healthier at a higher weight (though I think at the "morbidly obese" level is unlikely).
Bullying is still nasty and mean and shouldn't be done. Standing up to bullies or even ignoring them can be difficult. But ultimately? None of their business. I encourage ignoring the fools.

I go to the gym twice a week, I ride a bike to work every day, I hardly ever eat candy and I love vegetables. I'm still too large for my own good.
My brother-in-law eats like a horse or two, never work out and is still very slim.
It's not as easy as just a diet, dearie.

His attitude is, of course, encouraged by film and television double standards which allow male actors to become overweight and older (John Travolta, John Goodman, etc.) and still work, while women have to be stick thin and much younger to get parts, leading a lot of men (some that I know) to have the attitude that women don't deserve to be seen or even breathe if they don't look like the standard the media has set for them, while men are ok in any form.
