Meh'd. The original neo-cons were disgruntled ex-communists not liberals. Bush didn't really co-opt the movement so much as promote it more so than his Republican predecessors. I guess this got on here for the just beneath the surface anti-semitism in this post.

How the FUCK would the neoconservative movement have been founded by liberal leftists? (The "left-leaning" part makes it clear that Frank is talking about social liberals, not fiscal liberals.) Liberalism is the very opposite of neoconservatism! More proof that my fellow Americans are IDIOTS!
This post is one thing that I agree with Headache about completely.

Neocon stands for NEO CONSERVATIVE. Try to digest that.

I don't see the conspiracy here. The Neo-con movement was indeed founded by a bunch of Ex-communist Jews.

@Fortitude_North: William F. Buckley Jr. was an ex-left wing Catholic.

There's a joke going on here, and its on FRDB! He or she is right about one thing, Neocons are world class used douches.

Just another BS political term that gets tossed around far more than it deserves.

Obviously not every member of the early neo-con movement was a former Jew, I'm simply stating the common fact that it is for the most part a product of Jews who defected to the west.
Hell, read the wikipedia article on it if you don't believe me.

This is poorly worded, but more or less correct. How did this get submitted?

@Brenden Rizzo
The neocon movement was indeed started in the 1970's by former liberals and leftists from Trotskyism. They became upset with mainstream liberalism. They are by no means liberals today but their ideology was heavily influenced by some of the ideals of Marxism, just applied towards a different goal.

Key word being "former". The omission of that term made the quote sound like the old "stealth liberal" meme.
