Quote# 86179

Okay, how to answer this one:

Wives are to submit. US laws say a wife has one vote as well as her husband.

Wives are to obey their husbands - unless they are commanded to do something immoral. Presidential elections invovle many moral/philosophical/religious issues.

What if someone insists on telling their wife who to vote for, or forbids their wife from cancelling out their vote due to voting for a different person?

What if a wife insists on voting in a way opposing her husband?

What advice would you give such a couple?

p.s. a follow-p question: Should women have been given the vote in the first place?

The answer is quite simple: wives do not have to submit to their husbands. One of your premises is incorrect.

@Swede

I loved that play in high school! I played Lysistrata (despite being male), and it was a ton of fun saying those lines!

The funny thing is that although the scenario in the play seems actually kinda doable to us because we think of men as the lustier sex, the Greeks were presenting an intentionally ridiculous scenario for laughs because they thought of women as the lustier sex. Which I suppose goes to show how much the supposed defining traits of gender are shaped by cultural attitudes.

"What if someone insists on telling their wife who to vote for, or forbids their wife from cancelling out their vote due to voting for a different person?"

Then the wife should tell him to go screw himself and vote for the candidate that she feels is best.

"What if a wife insists on voting in a way opposing her husband?"

She's perfectly entitled to do so. She's a grown woman, not a little girl. If the husband tries to stop her, she should call the police and have his ass thrown in jail.

"What advice would you give such a couple?"

I would tell the wife to vote according to her own beliefs and I would tell the husband not to interfere because if he does, he should be prepared for a stint in state prison being someone's bitch.

"Should women have been given the vote in the first place?"

The fact that you even ask that question reveals you to be the sexist pig that you are. Newsflash: We're not in the 19th century anymore. Either leave your prejudices behind or get left behind with the rest of the bigots when society finally moves past this backwards thinking.

Then the wife is likely to think that there is something immoral about the person the husband is voting for, so voting for them would be immoral. Furthermore, ordering the wife to vote for someone they do not agree with is also immoral... so the wife is biblically justified in telling the husband to go fuck himself.

"What advice would you give such a couple?"

Get out of the marriage now, before he tries to turn you into a meek little stepford wife with no thoughts or mind of your own.

"Should women have been given the vote in the first place?"

Yep, and they should also be given a gun. Hubby tells them how to vote - they ventilate the bastard. I'm sick of these misogynistic fuckwads.

@ =POPE=

Actually, he wasn't. He was selected by a handful of senile old bats on the Supreme Court.

No. Just sit down and shut up.

Don't worry, you will never have this problem, as first you would have to get a woman to marry you, and once she finds out about what you believe then she will flee.

I really want to give you a savage dick beating.

The more disturbing statement by Mr. Pergamum comes later in the thread when he declares that he doesn't believe that a husband forcing himself upon his wife is necessarilly rape.

To stop following ancient myths and join us in the 21st century, where wives are just as free to vote for whomever they want, as the husbands are. I don't even know for sure who my husband votes for, as we have several parties to choose from, and it's his business, not mine.

Divorce sounds like a good start.

Dan I

What advice would I give?

Given that your husband appears to be a controlling freak I advise you to put a little money aside every week for a few weeks. Pack a small bag of essentials and hide it in a car that has your name on the title and registration. And here is the address of a local DV shelter.
