Quote# 86239

And if the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything. Does that undermine the fabric of our society? I would argue yes, it does. It all comes from, I would argue, this right to privacy that doesn't exist in my opinion in the United States Constitution, this right that was created, it was created in Griswold — Griswold was the contraceptive case — and abortion. And now we're just extending it out. And the further you extend it out, the more you — this freedom actually intervenes and affects the family. You say, well, it's my individual freedom. Yes, but it destroys the basic unit of our society because it condones behavior that's antithetical to strong healthy families. Whether it's polygamy, whether it's adultery, where it's sodomy, all of those things, are antithetical to a healthy, stable, traditional family.

Every society in the history of man has upheld the institution of marriage as a bond between a man and a woman. Why? Because society is based on one thing: that society is based on the future of the society. And that's what? Children. Monogamous relationships. In every society, the definition of marriage has not ever to my knowledge included homosexuality. That's not to pick on homosexuality. It's not, you know, man on child, man on dog, or whatever the case may be. It is one thing.

Reynardine,

how do you know this traumatized the children? How is it different from a kid viewing a body at a funeral? In fact, all of Santorum's kids have said that they were glad they got a chance to see the baby before he was buried.

Rick has the rare gift of making Mitt Romney look like the sensible choice for presidential candidate. I'm not even American and this douchebag has got me in the Romney camp.

I wouldn't have thought it was possible.

"And if the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy"

Bigamy? Polygamy? Just like the Biblical marriage then. (See Abraham, Jacob, David, Solomon and so on and so forth.) So what is Santorum's problem? Isn't it Biblical "values" that he advocates for?

And no, not even the New Testament forbids polygamy explicitly. In fact the only requirement is that elders of a church have to be husbands of one wife (1 Tim 3:2). Which implies that for other people it was still OK to have more than one wife! I think monogamy is rather a cultural development than being rooted in the Bible and Christianity.

So don't do them. Why do these folks believe that any time something they dont like is made legal, EVERYBODY will immediately start doing those things?

So there really aren't more pressing issues to worry about than who fucks who in what orifice, and whether or not they're married to the owner of said orifice? Okay then, I guess the world is fine and dandy if that's all you got to worry about. We can stop worrying about global warming and climate change and poverty and starvation and all that stuff, since as long as people only get busy with genitals that belong to people they're married to, everything is juuuust fine!
This guy is a presidential candidate and I'm fucking terrified. I'd make a better president and I'm not even good at driving a car!

Because an evil tree can only bring forth evil fruit. That tree has been producing evil fruit for some decades but, people like yourselves calling evil good, and good evil, have not noticed until the process becomes extreme.

Ho-lee shit. Did this assclown said, on the record, that he wants to police what happens in the bedrooms of citizens? Is this motherfucker for real?

Even as a joke candidate, he's fucking scary.

Doubting Thomas

@His4Life
Why are we left with the racist, sexist lunatic fringe?

Because your fellow Republican teabaggers have taken over the Republican party and claimed it for God. Now, unless you're a lunatic fringe, ultra-right wing bible thumper, you don't get very far in the Republican party. Unless they realize that they need a more moderate candidate to appeal to all voters instead of just the lunatic right, they'll never win the presidency. So you end up with candidates like Bachmann, Cain, Gingrich, Romney, and Perry.

@Argle Bargle:

Santorum has made no secret that he believes the government should be policing people's bedrooms, and obviously from this quote above doesn't believe that anyone has a right to privacy at all. I shudder to imagine an America run by Santorum, but it would probably make 1984 look tame by comparison. He is a truly frightening candidate and it's scary to realize that he's actually gotten this close to the presidency. In a sane world, he wouldn't have any support.

Clock, in my salad days, I was a counselor at a nut ward for kids. Believe me, handing children a tiny, clammy, blue little corpse, leaking bodily fluids and already evincing rigor and odor mortis, making them handle it and telling them it's their baby sibling is a whole lot more traumatic than taking them to a viewing and allowing them to look *if they so wish*. Some of our kids had flashbacks about even properly laid-out corpses. What the Santorums did properly qualifies as abuse.

"@His4Life

And Troll/Poe/Nuts4Life votes for said Repubican Teabaggers, thus allowing their disease to exist in US politics, when they have absolutely no right to exist in such ('In this world, but not of it', and all that jazz; isn't politics supposed to be a very worldly thing...?!). Otherwise, she'd vote Democrat, and for their most left-wing, pro-Choice, and pro-LGBT candidate.

...and curious is it not, that Troll/Poe/Nuts4Life seems to bring her own right-wing, discriminatory (Remember, dearie: Homophobia = Racism) lunacy in threads concerning anything LGBT-related? Why... one would (if not of a cynical & sarcastic bent) think that she's obsessed with teh ghey?!

She's left herself in an obsessive, mentally handicapped, faghag-ery fringe. Otherwise, like the rest of normal, decent, sane, civilised, secular, tolerant society, she wouldn't care about the activities of adult, consenting people of the same gender in the privacy of their own homes.

'But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.'

-Thomas Jefferson

But it does me no injury for my neighbour - and his male friend - to do what they want in private. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

Now point out on this doll where the nasty Homosexual Agenda touched you, Mr. Rantsorbum...? You too, Troll/Poe/Nuts4Life.

A judge in California has ruled DOMA to be unconstitutional.

(P)Rick Rantsorbum: Obama doesn't call evil 'evil'

Republicans admit Romney & Rantsorbum is doing the Democrats a favour amongst independent & swing-voters. They consider these an embarrassment.

Romney wins Michigan, purely on the issue of the economy. Next, 'Super Tuesday'. (P)Rick Rantsorbum is going to learn - the hard way - why every political expert in the US (also advisers in both camps) say that the basis of election winning is 'It's The Economy, Stupid!'. Yeah, (P)Ricky-boy. Gay Marriage and Abortion - or banning such - is going to create jobs for people (especially the candidate-killing independent & swing-voters) and reduce the national debt, yessiree! [/hyper-sarcasm]

It's now the case that even Stevie Wonder can see that Romney is going to be nominated. And even if he does get to the White House, at least there's one silver lining to that particular cloud: The fact that a Mormon (and effectively a 'RINO', as so many fundies have referred to him) - and not one of their precious Conservatives with 'Christian Values' - became president (PROTIP: JFK = Catholic) will hopefully make the Religious Right so disillusioned with the political system in the US (to say nothing of the Repubican Party in nominating him in the first place) that they'll never vote again.

There's always the hope that the Democrats will gain control of the Senate/House of Representatives (One word: Midterms), so policy-wise, Romney will be able to do fuck all anyway.

Y'know, Troll/Poe/Nuts4Life: the sane majority. As in the non-racist, non-sexist, tolerant people here on Planet Reality. Such as for example, Clint Eastwood. A supporter of Ronald Reagan in the past. A Republican. Who is pro-Choice, and is pro-LGBT. Care to say to his face he's wrong, dearie?

Go ahead. Make his - and my day. Record & upload such on YouTube for posteriority. If you dare, that is. If you don't , then you'll have conceded, nay, admitted that he - and everyone who thinks like him is right, and you (and your unjustifiable 'beliefs' you base your even more unjustifiably discriminatory thinking & attitude on) are...:

But then, by abandoning previous discussions that you pussied out of the arguments in such (when the intellectual heat got too much for you, painting you in an intellectual corner; the only way you could get out of such is to admit that we Atheists are right and that your 'God' doesn't exist, and your book of fairytales your 'faith' is based on is lies), you've already acknowledged, nay, admitted that we Atheists are more than infinitely superior to you fundies. In every way.

The very fact that your precious Religious Right - the GOP - is reduced to these dead bottom-feeders they call 'candidates' after their 'best' that was George Dumbya Bush - is proof that right-wing Fundamentalist Christianity is dying, and they know it. It certainly deserves to become extinct.

I refer you to what I said above, re. if 'Mr. Policy Flip-Flop' RINO Romney - a Mormon - is selected, and even gets to the White House.

@Wehpudicabok

Let me join you in that sentiment:

Rick, you should have kept these gems for yourself until after the nomination. The election will be a lot more amusing if we get to see the Republicans crash on a god-gays-guns platform.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if Santorum decided to try pushing legislation that would require you to get government permission every time you wanted to have sex.

@Anon-e-moose: Stop frothing at the mouth and making the left look bad. 4 was being relatively civilized; respond by being civilized back, or if you can't bring yourself to do that, just pretend she isn't there until she says something horrid, and then spew bile, 'kay?

Throwing a semi-psychotic fit directly at her just because she identifies with an 'other' group, especially a fit whose content consists largely of asserting loudly that if she were sane or moral she would be just like you, looks like you're missing the point of liberalism on a near-cosmic scale. You're pretty articulate. Try not to be the frothing maniac people point to to prove both sides have prejudiced douchebags, hey?

@Amadaun

Sorry about that, but considering her past track-record of homophobia (and how that equates with being racist & sexist), and how the likes of Troll/Poe/Nuts4Life have allowed the likes of Frothy Mixture to exist in US politics (when they have absolutely no right to whatsoever; 'Separation of Church & State', and all that jazz), brought me out in a froth too. With her past bullshit - especially homophobic - every time she appears here flips my RAGE switch; force of habit, I'm afraid.

My apologies to her too. Now if only she could continue in this more moderate vein, re. the Bible's own homophobia, which has absolutely no right to exist in it's doctrine, seeing as Homophobia = Sexism = Racism: Discrimination.

With consenting adults I still see no issue. And on top of that there are no "rights nor laws" against or for adultery. You are supposed to be for less government. Except when it comes to private sex lives apparently.

There is no law against people consensually having sex with multiple other people, but that's not the same thing as polygamy, let alone incest, being legal.

@Atheissmo

"Polygamy, as long as it's outside marriage, is perfectly legal."

There is no polygamy outside marriage, "gamy" means "marriage". You mean sex with multiple partners.
