(In a comment thread starting with him saying "god made marriage so why do you atheists do it")

in this country you forget God is in control of the whole world, how is what I mean by limited minds. In the bible it's says render unto God what is Gods and render unto man what is man. So if it takes a marriage license to proceed in getting married in the USA then God does not mind that, but if a christian minister refuses to marry a same sex or non christian couple you have to go look around until you find some minister to compromise what before you can get married. Understand this God does not recognize your marriage no matter how long you've been together, but the state recognizes mine

Then if God wanted everyone to be straight, She would have made them that way.

No thank you, I don't want any word salad, I just had a large lunch.

This God does not recognize gay marriage? Then we want another god, please.

Marriage was originally little more than an ownership certificate; the offspring of your women were your legal offspring.
(And yes, I wrote "women" in the plural deliberately.)

I don't care one way or another whether or not your god recognizes a marriage (mine or anyone else's). No one's forcing your minister to perform the ceremony. But separation of church and state (you know, that principle whereby health insurance providers don't have to cover birth control if they don't like it) should then dictate that what god recognizes, and what the state recognizes should be two different things...

Your God not only that he does not exist, but even if he did, he would not care about anyone's marriage. The ones who care about marriage are people.

Yup, I'm fine with that. It is the Minister's right to refuse to marry two people in his own Church. You can't force a religion to accept things that go against their beliefs.

However, seeing as you're creating a distinction between civil and religious marriage, you have no right to prevent gays from being married by the state, seeing as 'God doesn't mind'.

"god made marriage so why do you atheists do it"

Because the god in question was the FSM who is really cool with it if you don't want to believe in him, and besides he only came up with the idea as another excuse for a kicking party!

Hey, you beg the question, I donate the answer!

Actually Allah is in control of the whole world because Islam is the real religion.

So, outside of the US of A, the Flying Spaghetti Monster is king of the hill? Perhaps Shiva? Maybe even... [in the Church Lady voice] SATAN?!

The thing that pisses me off is that if atheists didn't get married they'd be calling us immoral for "living in sin."

And if God is in control of the whole world, he's been doing a really shitty job of it.

I don't think too many gays and lesbians care if gor recognizes their marriage as long as they receive the legal benefits of being married... I know I don't care what "god" thinks about my marriage!

"god made marriage so why do you atheists do it"

Indians and Chinese and Eskimos and Arorae Islanders have all married for centuries or even millennia before ever hearing of the Bible, and by vastly different ceremonies. Exactly which god made marriage?

you forget God is in control of the whole world

That's because it isn't true. Ignoring the fact that no gods exist, traditionally various tribes believed in regional gods and/or gods of various natural elements. Yahweh is just another regional god for the region of Israel and the ancient Hebrews believed that the other gods existed, they just didn't worship them, hence the commandment: "Thou shalt have no OTHER GODS before me". That commandment makes no sense unless the writer believed that other gods existed. There are also several references early on in the Bible that reference the Elohim as Yahweh says "we" and "us" a lot (referring to the existence of multiple gods). That's right, your religion was polytheistic in addition to being regional. So no, your own religion's history shows that God (Yahweh) isn't in control of the entire world nor is he meant to be.

Or they could just, you know, go to a courthouse and have a civil, secular ceremony. Nobody's saying the ministers have to perform same sex marriages, just the states.
And, btw, the state recognizes atheist, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, Jewish, etc... marriages, so marriage obviously does not belong just to the Christians.

In the USA it is the state that decides who can and cannot get married. Not the church. So fuck off.

"in this country you forget God is in control of the whole world, how is what I mean by limited minds."

Eh what? The part of that I understand is "God is in control of the whole world" which I challenge you to prove.

"In the bible it's says render unto God what is Gods and render unto man what is man."

What the Bible says is of no authority to many of us.

"So if it takes a marriage license to proceed in getting married in the USA then God does not mind that, but if a christian minister refuses to marry a same sex or non christian couple you have to go look around until you find some minister to compromise what before you can get married."

Are you drunk or just too stupid write a meaningful sentence?

No one is talking about forcing a Church or minister to marry anyone they don't want to marry, so I don't see why you would have a problem with other people's marriages.

"Understand this God does not recognize your marriage no matter how long you've been together, but the state recognizes mine"

Perfect! As I couldn't care less what you think you delusion of God likes.

So I can have 700 wives, and 300 concubines, just like Solomon...?

Thanks for annihilating your own argument, and proving that marriage is purely down to the laws of the land; Romans 13:1-5, and all that jazz.

"Understand this; God does not recognize your marriage no matter how long you've been together, but the state recognizes mine"

Understand this fucker; God doesn't HAVE to recognize anyone's marriage in order for it to be valid in the eyes of the state. That includes gay marriage and a marriage between atheists.

Spiritual/Religious marriage and Civil marriage are not the same thing. You fail.

Doesn't rodndc know you don't have to go to a minister in most (if not all) states to be legally married?
