Santorum has already started the process of alienating women, if they embrace people that want to take away women's right to vote it'll complete that process. There will certainly be a "final nail" but it'll be in the GOP's coffin.

Here's the thing though; things have moved on since the 18th century. The constitution wasn't supposed to be an infallible text written for all time, that descended from heaven. It was supposed to be amended in line with the changing times. America isn't a small agricultural enclave on the eastern seaboard ruled by an elite of slave-owning lawyers and merchants any more. We can't go back to that any more than we can go back to Biblical times, or the Muslims can go back to the days of the second Caliphate.
If you were to revert to that, you'd be socially and politically taking a giant leap back 200 years, and you'd also be out of step with every other country in the western world.

That's what these people want. They're under the impression that the world was perfect back in the day, when things were simpler and those in control had a much more solid power base (hint: the people who wish for a return to those times are the ones who would have it good back then). They want to live in a bubble and not have anyone else trouble them, which means everyone else has to be just like them (or dead, that works for people who are sufficiently Other).
The final nail will be immigration reform, and then its over.
Yes, because this country was built without immigrants; why would we ever want outsiders entering this country?

The 15th Amendment, granting the vote to all races was passed by a Congress that was 70% Republican in the House and 85% Republican in the Senate. The 19th Amendment was passed by a Congress that was 50% Republican in the House and 55% Republican in the Senate. Since amendments have to be passed by 2/3 of both houses of congress and ratified by 3/4 of the states, the Democrats could hardly have pushed these through. In any event, the Republicans, while moderately conservative for the last century, were not the right-wing loonies they've become today until the last few decades.
