America existed "half-slave and half-free" for quite a while. Some people were slaves and some people were free. Why is it impossible for a country to contain both gay and straight people? Gayness isn't catching. Honestly, this is as stupid as saying we can't exist half-male and half-female. And a lot of people are still waiting with bated breath to see a copy of this "gay agenda" that apparently exists somewhere in the depths of Tea Party HQ.

On the other hand I know a good number of pious, church going democrats and liberals who love christianity for the love, tolerance, compassion, charity, and forgiving it teaches.

Clearly, what Bryan is saying is that the US is bi-curious.

But, seriously... Is the act of questioning something really the same as despising it? When, for instance, a theoretical physicist makes note of some logical hole in M-Theory, does that automatically mean that they want the accumulated research in String Theory put onto a bonfire?

Bryan needs to realize that, when someone questions one of your core beliefs, it can be used to strengthen your arguments by calmly and logically giving an answer. Mind you, this presupposes that you have the ability to make a logical argument, which this quote itself puts into question. Perhaps Bryan can start with that and work his way up to the other things that we apparently despise.

The smell of desperation is truly strong in a lot of the wingnut community. The racism, the sexism, all the tools they used to rile people up are going away, and folks are catching on to their B.S.

I think this campaign season is going to see many truly historic meltdowns politically. I also think we'll see wingnut politicians make truly insane promises and try to pass even more insane laws - and have no way to back down.
